Last Friday when I went back home it was down pouring in

Melbourne with street flooding in many urban areas. Around 8pm

my car was stuck in the middle of the road for over 20 minutes as

drivers were wary of the poor road condition. It was a very

unusual feeling to see the active traffic came to a standstill.

At that point I attempted to divert into some smaller alleys but only

to discover that most parts were inundated; it was so hard to find

an easy passage back home without risking my car going down

because of the overflow. Not far away from my home in front of

me there were a bus and two cars with flashing hazard lights as

their ignitions failed supposedly whilst going into the flooded

low-lying ground. As told by two teenage onlookers, this road

leading to my home just came under water ten minutes ago.

I had no choice but reverted into other alternate routings and at

the end spent 40 minutes coming back to home rather than 10

minutes as usual. Thanks God everything was fine and safe.

I found out later that many shops in the area were immersed by

overflowing rainwater, and the downpour also caused much

damage to many neighbours’ homes due to water incoming from

the roof and choked downpipes. Surprisingly our 40-year old

house could stay intact despite its record of leakage. Back to our

office on Saturday I found it so fortunate that no water seepage

had happened whereas the two solicitors’ offices next door were

so badly ruined.

Such life time experience urged me to reflect on how volatile

could our life become as with the very unpredictable weather.

Eventually that Saturday turned out to be a sunny day and on

Sunday we even could enjoy our BBQ at the backyard with our

colleagues. Compared to just a couple of days before, what a

remarkable turn around from the rough stormy weather and an

unpleasant sentiment as if the world was coming to an end.

Sameway has been around for almost 7 years; and our days have

just been like this. There have been many crooks and twists to the

extent that we needed to revert and divert or even times where

we felt so desperate and hopeless. But all because of our

reliance on our faithful God all the way that, until today, we are still

delivering on a weekly basis all the healthy and beautiful

messages and stories of fine humanity to our Chinese

communities around Australia. I trust this must be God’s grace!
