On this Tuesday I attended an evening function organised by the Victorian Salvation Army with the purpose of thanking all the community groups and volunteers who had participated in the recent State Disaster Fund Raising Campaign. The function was attended by distinguished guests including Salvation Army South East Regional Commander Raymond Finger, Victorian Premier Baillieu and Chinese Deputy Consulate Mr Fung-wen Huang who gave out commendation certificate to all contributing parties. Sameway representative was among the participating recipients because of our fundraising effort by selling rice in the Whitehorse Lunar New Year Bazaar. I believe this award is an affirmation of all our co-workers and volunteers who had offered so much to server their community.

I truly appreciate this award from the Salvation Army. There has been a public impression that Christians from churches mainly concern about the eternal life rather than the community needs, in particular for churches within which there are already more than enough needy members of new immigrants. Salvation Army is one of the notable exceptions where the core belief is to glorify Christ s love through serving people.

Hence, whenever in times of natural disasters the Salvation Army would be playing the role of the good Samarian. Every Salvation Army member or volunteers who solicits offering to the poor by holding fund raising boxes standing at the shopping centres or on the roads or even by knocking on individual household door is indeed portraying God s love to mankind.

Sameway is a community publication of the RCCCC. We are not a church organisation but a group of Christians who strive not just to run a community publication conducive to better quality of life but we also share the core value of the Salvation Army – we want to show and pass on God s love through serving people in the community around us. So besides providing community information we are more after care and support to the community through our publication.

I hope our God would cheer up all of our co-workers and volunteers in persevering this belief in good faith; and I trust up in Heaven He would be pleased by our perseverance.
