It operates on the Peltier effect in semiconductor thermocouples. When direct current of proper polarity is applied to the thermocouples, heat is extracted from the outer metal shell and moves to the central heat sink from which it is removed by a flowing coolant (tap water). Direct current is supplied by the Power Supply Unit shown, which operates from 1 15 volt, 50/60 cycle input, drawing 165 watts. Thermal pumping rate is 175 BTU per hour when bath and coolant temperature are the same. PORTABLE THERMOELECTRIC
