ΙΔ΄ ΚΤΡΙΑΚΗ ΛΟΤΚΑ (Λουκ. 18:35-43) 23 Ἰανουαρίου 2011

Ἕναν τυφλό, μᾶς παρουσιάζει τό σημερινό εαγγελικό ἀνάγνωσμα.

Ἕναν ἄνθρωπο πού λόγω τῆς ἀναπηρίας του δέν μποροῦσε νά

ἐργασθεῖ, διά τοῦτο καί καθόταν στήν ἄκρη τοῦ δρόμου ζητώντας

βοήθεια ἀπό τούς διαβᾶτες. Ἦταν εχαριστημένος μέ ὅποια δήποτε

βοήθεια τοῦ πρόσφερε ἡ εσλπαχνία τῶν διερχομένων. ζητιάνευε γιά

λίγα νομίσματα πού θά τοῦ ἐξασφάλιζαν τό ψωμί του καί πορευόταν

μέρα μέ τήν μέρα ἱκανοποιημένος, μέχρι τότε πού ἄκουσε ὅτι περνοῦσε

ἀπό κεῖ μπροστά του ὁ Φριστός.

Κάθε φορά πού κάποιος ἔρριχνε κάποιο νόμισμα αἰσθανόταν χαρά καί

ἀνακούφιση. Ἔνοιωθε ὅτι πῆρχαν ἀκόμη ἄνθρωποι μέ φιλάνθρωπα

αἰσθήματα πού συμπονοῦσαν καί πρόσφεραν. Σώρα ὅμως πού μέσα

στόν θόρυβο καί τήν ὀχλαγωγία, ἄκουσε ὅτι περνοῦσε ἀπό ἐκεῖνο τόν

δρόμο ὁ Ἰησοῦς, αἰσθάνθει ἕνα σεισμό μέσα του. Αἰσθάνθει ἕνα

ἀκαθόριστο σκύρτημα πού τόν γέμισε ἀπό μιά πρωτόγνωρη χαρά. Ἡ

καρδιά του ἄρχισε νά κτυπᾶ πιό γρήγορα καί σηκώθηκε πάνω σάν

ἐλατήριο. Ἅρπαξε τό μπαστούνι του καί σπρώχνοντας ἄρχισε νά

φωνάζει: «Ἰησοῦ ϊέ Δαβίδ, ἐλέησόν με.» Ἄφισε στήν μπάντα τό

πανέρι μέ τίς ἀνθρώπινες προσφορές καί τώρα παρακαλοῦσε γιά τίς

δωρεές πού μόνο ὁ Θεός θά μποροῦσε νά τοῦ προσφέρει. Ἀνατρίχιασε

σάν ἄκουσε τόν Φριστό νά τόν ἐρωτᾶ: «.... τί σοί θέλεις ποιήσω;»

Ἰησοῦς, ὁ φημισμένος Διδάσκαλος, ὁ Θαυματουργός Κύριος, ἦταν

ατός πού τόν ρωτοῦσε. Δέν ἦταν κανένας ἀπ’τούς συνηθισμένους

περαστικούς, οὔτε κάποιος φημισμένος ὀφθαλμίατρος πού ἐπισκέφθει

τήν Ἱεριχώ. τυφλός στήν ἐρώτηση τοῦ Φριστοῦ, οὔτε κἄν πού

σκέφτηκε. Δέν ἦταν καιρός γιά σκέψη καί καθυστέρηση. «Κύριε, ἵνα

ἀναβλέψω» ἀπάντησε αθόρμητα. Δίχως καθυστέρηση ὁ Υωτοδότης

Κύριος, μέ μιά καί μόνο προσταγή τοῦ ἔδωσε τό φῶς του καί ἀνέβλεψε,

δοξάζοντας τόν Θεό.

τυφλός Βαρτιμαῖος ἀδελφοί μου ἐζήτησε μόνο ἕνα πρᾶγμα. Σό φῶς

τῶν ματιῶν του. Καί σάν τόλαβε, ἀμέσως ἄφισε τά πάντα καί

ἀκουλούθησε τόν Φριστό. Ἦταν τυφλός καί δικαιολογημένα ζητιάνευε

μέ ἐπιμονή τό φῶς του. Ατό πού ζήτησε ὁ τυφλός ἀπό τόν Φριστό

ἦταν τό φῶς τῶν φυσικῶν ὀφθαλμῶν του καί κεῖνος τοῦ χάρισε καί τό

πνευματικό του φῶς.

Ὅμως κάθε μέρα οἱ ἄνθρωποι στήν πλειοψηφία τους ψάχνουν καί

ζητοῦν. Ἴσως εἶναι μόνο λίγοι οἱ προνομοιοῦχοι πού δέν ζητιανεύουν.

Ὅλοι ψάχνουν γιά κάποια καλύτερη θέση. Γιά καλύτερους ὅρους

ἐργασίας. Γιά περισσότερα χρήματα. Σό ἴδιο συμβαίνει μέ ὅλες τίς

τέχνες καί ἐργασίες μέσα στόν κόσμο. Κτυποῦν πόρτες γραφείων,

ἐργοστασίων, πουργείων ἀλλά καί ἁπλῶν πολιτῶν, ζητιανεύοντας μιά

ἐργασία. Εἶναι ἀναρίθμητες οἱ αἰτήσεις πού καθημερινά γράφονται καί

στέλνονται καί προσεκτικά ἐξετάζονται. Ἀλλά ατοῦ τοῦ εἴδους τό

αἴτημα καί ἐπίμονο ψάξιμο, εἶναι μέρος τῆς καθημερινῆς μας ζωῆς καί

ἀφορᾶ τήν ἐπιβίωσή μας. Ατό ἔκαμε καί ὁ τυφλός στήν ἄκρη τοῦ

δρόμου γιά χρόνια. τό ἄκουσμα ὅμως τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ Φριστοῦ, ὁ

τυφλός σκέφθηκε ὅτι ἦταν εκαιρία νά ζητήσει κάτι πού θά ξεπερνοῦσε

τά ὅρια ατῆς τῆς περιορισμένης ζωῆς. Μέ τό «Κύριε ἵνα ἀναβλέψω.»

ὁ Βαρτιμαῖος ἔλεγε: «Κύριε δῶς μου χαρά. Γιά μένα Κύριε, ἡ

μεγαλύτερη χαρά εἶναι νά μοῦ δώσεις τό φῶς μου. Δέν μέ ἐνδιαφέρει

γιά τίποτε ἄλλο παρά μόνο ἡ χαρά σάν βροῦν τά μάτια μου τήν γειά

τους. Ἡ χαρά πού ἔλαβε ἐπλημμύρισε τήν καρδιά του καί σάν τρελλός

δοξολογοῦσε τόν Θεό καί ἀκολούθησε τόν Φριστό.

Ἀδελφοί μου ἡ χαρά εἶναι τό μεγαλύτερο ἀγαθό στόν ἄνθρωπο. Ατό

πού κάθε μέρα ψάχνει νά βρεῖ ὁ ἄνθρωπος, εἶναι ἡ χαρά. Ὄχι ἡ

προσωρινή γιά τήν ὁποία ὁ τυφλός ζητοῦσε ἀπ’τούς περαστικούς κάθε

μέρα, ἀλλά ἡ ἀναφαίρετη καί αἰώνια χαρά πού τοῦ πρόσφερε ὁ

Φριστός. Ὅλα τά δυσεκατομμύρια τοῦ κόσμου ψάχνουν πρός ὅλες τίς

κατευθύνσεις γιά νά τήν βροῦν. Γιά κοιτάξτε τους; δῶ ψάχνουν στά

ναρκωτικά, ἐκεῖ ψάχνουν στήν τύχη, ἄλλοι ψάχνουν στά νυχτερινά

κέντρα, ἄλλοι ψάχνουν στίς σαρκικές ἡδονές, μερικοί ψάχνουν στά

χρήματα, ἄλλοι ψάχνουν στήν δόξα καί τήν ἐξουσία, πιό πέρα ψάχνουν

στήν κλοπή, στήν πονηριά, στό ἔγκλημα, στό ψέμα, στήν ἀνομία καί

γενικά στήν κοσμική ζωή. Σούς εἴδατε πῶς γυρίζουν ἀπό τήν μιά μεριά

τοῦ πλανήτη μας στήν ἄλλη ψάχνοντας γιά τήν πολυπόθητη χαρά καί

τελικά πόσο ἀπογοητευμένοι φαίνονται; Γιατί; Γιατί δέν τήν βρίσκουν.

Καί γιατί δέν τήν βρίσκουν; Διότι δέν πάρχει στά πράγματα ἐτούτου

τοῦ κόσμου ἡ πραγματική χαρά. Ὅλες οἱ χαρές τοῦ κόσμου εἶναι

φθηνά ποκατάστατα τῆς χαρᾶς τοῦ Θεοῦ. Πρόκειται γιά τήν ψεύτικη

χαρά πού ποσχέθηκε ὁ διάβολος στούς Πρωτοπλάστους. Ἀπό τότε

μέχρι σήμερα, μέ ὅλα τά σύγχρονα μέσα, ἀκόμη ψάχνουν καί δέν τήν

βρίσκουν.

Εἶναι καιρός πλέον νά ψάξουμε ἐκεῖ πού ἔψαξαν οἱ Ἀπόστολοι, καί ὅλοι

οἱ Ἅγιοι τῆς κκλησίας μας. Εἶναι καιρός νά ζητήσουμε τήν χαρά ἐκεῖ

πού πάρχει. Εἶναι καιρός νά ζητήσουμε τήν χαρά ἀπό τήν πηγή τῆς

χαρᾶς ὅπως καί ὁ Βαρτιμαῖος. Ἀδελφοί μου, τό ὅτι ψάχνουμε γιά τήν

χαρά ἐκεῖ πού δέν πάρχει ἴσως μέχρι τώρα νά μήν ἦταν δικό μας

λάθος. Ἔτσι μᾶς δίδαξαν οἱ γονεῖς μας καί τό περιβάλλον πού

δημιούργησαν οἱ ἀνθρώπινες κοινωνίες μέχρι σήμερα. Σώρα ὅμως πού

καταλάβαμε τήν πλεκτάνη τοῦ πονηροῦ. Σώρα πού γνωρίσαμε ποιά

εἶναι ἡ πηγή τῆς ἀγάπης, θά εἴμεθα ἀσυγχώρητοι νά ἀναζητοῦμε τήν

χαρά ἐκεῖ πού εἴμεθα σίγουροι ὅτι δέν πάρχει. Μέσα σέ τούτον τόν

θόρυβο καί τήν ἔντονη ὀχλαγωγία τοῦ κόσμου, ἄς ἀφουγγραστοῦμε

προσεκτικά καί θά ἀκούσωμε κάποιες φωνές νά μᾶς λένε: «...Ἰησοῦς ὁ

Ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται.»

13th SUNDAY OF LUKE (Luke 18: 35-43) January 23rd 2011

Today’s gospel reading presents us with the story of a blind man. He

was a man that because of his disability was not able to work and

support himself, so for that reason we find him at the side of the road

asking a passerby for help. He was satisfied with whatever they

offered him through their compassion. He was seeking for just a few

coins which would supply his daily bread, and so day by day he went

on like this- satisfied- until the day that he heard that Christ would be

passing by right in front of him.

Every time someone gave him a few coins the blind man felt joy and

relief because he knew that there still existed people who were both

charitable and compassionate, and who offered alms. Hearing the

noise of a gathering crowd and learning that Jesus would be passing

down the road that he was on, he felt as though he was being shaken

by an internal earthquake; he was filled with a new-found joy, and

happiness that he could simply not hold back. His heart beat faster

and it was as though a spring was welling from his chest, he snatched

up his walking stick and pushing his way through the crowd he began

to call out “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” He had left

behind his basket containing the offerings of the people and was now

begging for the gifts that only God could offer him. How must he have

felt when he heard Christ’s voice asking him: “What do you want me to

do for you?” It was Christ Himself, the famous teacher, the miracle-

working Lord, who had asked this question; it was not one of the crowd

of people or even some famous eye specialist who was visiting

Jericho. At Christ’s question the blind man, didn’t delay he didn’t need

time to think, his reply was instant and straight forward: “Lord, that I

may receive my sight.” Without delay and with just His word, the Lord,

the bearer of light, gave him light and vision, glorifying God.

The blind, Bartimaeus, was seeking only one thing dear brethren and

that was his sight, when he had received this he immediately left

everything else aside and followed Christ. He was blind and with every

right was begging insistently for his sight. He asked Christ to give light

to his natural eyes, however Christ enlightened him spiritually as well.

Every day the majority of people are seeking and asking for something

or other, it is only the privileged few that have no need to beg.

Everyone is seeking for a better position, better working conditions,

more pay- this occurs in every sector of occupation in the world.

People are knocking at the doors of office buildings, factories,

ministerial offices, and even people that they know, seeking

employment. Every day innumerable applications are written and sent

off to be scrutinised. This persistent search is necessary for our daily

survival. It is the same as that which the blind man was doing at the

side of the road all of those years. However when he learned about

Christ’s presence, the blind man understood that this was the

opportunity to experience something that surpasses the limits of this

temporary life. With the words “Lord, that I may receive my sight.”

Bartimaeus was really saying “Lord, give me happiness. Lord my

greatest joy is that You give me light. Nothing else interests me other

than the joy that I will have once my eyes are restored to health.” Joy

flooded his heart and without any other care in the world he glorified

God and followed Christ.

Brethren, joy is the greatest gift that a person can receive. It is this joy

that man is seeking every day. Not the temporary joy such as the blind

man was seeking from passersbies every day that he was sitting by the

side of the road, but the eternal immovable joy that Christ offered him.

Each one of the billions of people that inhabit the earth, search in every

direction to find joy. Just observe them: they seek joy in drugs, in

gambling, in nightclubs, in the fleshy pleasures, in money, in glory, in

authority, others by stealth, in cunningness, crime, falsehood,

lawlessness and generally in the worldly life. Do you see them going

from one side of the planet to the other searching for the joy that they

desire, and do you notice how disappointed they are finally? Why? It is

because they do not find that which they seek. And why is their search

in vain? It is because true joy does not exist in the things of this world.

All of the joys offered by this world are just cheap substitutes for the

Joy of God. It is the false joy that the devil promised Adam and Eve;

from then until today even with the means now available to us today,

people search and do not find it.

It is time for us to look where the Apostles and all of the Saints of our

Church looked. It is time for us to search for joy there where it does

exist. It is time seek joy from the source of joy just as Bartimaeus did.

Brethren the fact that we seek joy there where it does not exist may, up

to now, not be our own fault. This is how we have been educated by

our parents and by the general environment created by human

societies. Now that we have uncovered the plot of the cunning one,

and now that we have understood what is the true source of love, it

would be inexcusable to seek joy where it does not exist. Amongst the

chaos and noise that is this world let us listen carefully for the voices

that are saying: “… Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

Σήν Πέμπτη 13 Ἰανουαρίου, ἔλαβε χώρα εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας, ἡ Βάπτιση τῆς

νεαρῆς Susanna Burnard Εἰς ἡλικίαν 24ων ἐτῶν. Ἡ ἀνάδοχος Θεοδώρα

Ζωγράφου τῆς χάρισε τό ὄνομα ωσάννα. Ἡ νεοφώτιστη παρηκολούθησε τά

βασικά μαθήματα κατηχήσεως καί μέ συγκίνηση εἰσῆλθε στούς κόλπους τῆς

ρθοδόξου πίστεως, ὅπου τήν περασμένη Κυριακή ἐκοινώνησε τῶν Ἀχράντων

Μυστηρίων. Εχόμεθα στήν νεοφώτιστον νά συνεχίσει τήν πνευματική της

κατάρτηση, ζῶντας μέσα στά Μυστήρια τῆς κκλησίας μας. τήν ἀνάδοχο

εχόμεθα φώτιση, γιά νά συμβουλεύει καί νά καθ’ὁδηγεῖ τήν νεοφώτιστον στόν

ἴσιο δρόμο τοῦ Θεοῦ.

Σό άββατο 15 Ἰανουαρίου τό ἀπόγευμα, ὁ κ. Ἰωάννης καί ἡ κ. άμαρ Μαρκίδη,

ἐβάπτισαν εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας τό χαριτωμένο ἀγοράκι τους. ἀνάδοχος

ωτήριος Μπόης τοῦ χάρισε τό ὄνομα εβαστιανός. Εχόμεθα στούς γονεῖς τοῦ

νεοφωτίστου νά τόν χαίρωνται πάντοτε χαρούμενο καί ελογημένο ἀπό τόν Θεό.

τόν ἀνάδοχο εχόμεθα ὅπως ὁ Κύριος τόν φωτίζει καί ἀξιώνει γιά νάσυμβουλεύει τόν νεοφώτιστο καί νά τόν καθ’ὁδηγεῖ σύμφωνα μέ τόν νόμο τοῦ

Θεοῦ.

Σό λληνικό χολεῖο τῆς Κοινότητος-νορίας Προφήτη Ἠλία

φέτος ὅπως εἶναι γνωστό ὅλες οἱ τάξεις τῶν λληνικῶν μας σχολείων θά

στεγαστοῦν στίς δικές μας σχολικές αἴθουσες, πίσω ἀπό τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας. Σά

σχολεῖα μας προσφέρουν ἄνεση, ἀσφάλεια, ἐλευθερία, προστασία καί ποιότητα.

Ατό πού πρέπει νά μάθουν οἱ μαθητές/τριες, εἶναι ὅτι ἐφ’ὅσον εἶναι τό δικό τους

σχολεῖο, θά τό προσέχουν καί θά τό διατηροῦν πιό καθαρό. τήν συνέχεια

ἀναφέρουμε τήν ἡμέρα Ἁγιασμοῦ, τήν ἡμέρα ἐνάρξεως, καθώς ἡμέρες καί ὥρες

λειτουργίας. Ἁγιασμός ἐνάρξεως τοῦ σχολικοῦ ἔτους, θά λάβει χώρα εἰς τόν

Ἱερό Ναό μας τήν Κυριακή 6η Υεβρουαρίου 2011 καί στό πέρας τῆς Θείας

Λειτουργίας. Σήν Σρίτη 8η Υεβρουαρίου θά ἀρχίσουν τά μαθήματα γιά τούς

μαθητές/τριες πού ἐπέλεξαν τό Δημοτικό σχολεῖο τῆς Σρίτης. Σήν Παρασκευή 11η

Υεβρουαρίου γιά μαθητές/τριες πού ἐπέλεξαν τήν Παρασκευή καί τό άββατο 12η

Υεβρουαρίου γιά μαθητές/τριες πού ἐπέλεξαν τό άββατο. Σό Γυμνάσιο ἀρχίζει

τήν Πέμπτη 10η Υεβρουαρίου.

Προσοχή!!! Παρακαλοῦμε ὅσους γονεῖς ἐπιθυμοῦν νά φέρουν τά παιδιά τους στό

ἑλληνικό μας σχολεῖο, πρέπει νά τό ἐγγράψουν τό συντομότερον δυνατόν. Ατό

θά μᾶς διευκoλύνει νά ἔχωμε τά βιβλία ἐγκαίρως, παράλληλα καί τό ἀνάλογο

διδακτικό προσωπικό. τήν συνέχεια σᾶς πενθυμίζουμε τό πρόγραμμα.

κάστη Σρίτη ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία μέχρι 7ον ἔτος, 4.00μ.μ. – 7.00μ.μ.

συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. κάστη Παρασκευή ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία μέχρι

7ον ἔτος, 4.00μ.μ. – 6.30μ.μ. συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. Ἕκαστο άββατο

ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία μέχρι 7ον ἔτος, 9.00π.μ. – 12.00 τό μεσημέρι

συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. κάστη Πέμπτη θά λειτουργεῖ τό Γυμνάσιο

4.00μ.μ. – 6.00μ.μ. Ἀκόμη κάνουμε γνωστό ὅτι κι’ἐφέτος τά μαθήματα τῆς

ἑλληνικῆς γλῶσσας καί ἑλληνικῶν χορῶν εἶναι δωρεάν. Μόνο τά βιβλία τους θά

ἀγοράσουν καί θά συνισφέρουν ὅτι θέλουν στό ἐτήσιο Γουώλκαθον τόν Ἰούλιο καί

τήν ἐτησία σχολική χοροεσπερίδα τόν επτέμβριο. Σό λληνικό Πανηγύρι Νόργουντ

Ἀπό τήν περασμένη χρονιά πού σταμάτησε τό τήσιο Γλέντι τῆς λληνικῆς

Παροικίας Ἀδελαῒδος, μᾶς ἐπλησίασαν μερικοί καί μᾶς ρώτησαν νά κάνουμε κάτι

ἐμεῖς σάν Κοινότητα. Θά βοηθήσουμε ὅσο μποροῦμε, -μᾶς εἶπαν- ἀρκεῖ νά γίνει

κάτι πού θά συνεχίσει νά ἑνώνει τήν λληνική Παροικία μας καἰ εἰδικά τά παιδιά

μας. Σό Δ. υμβούλιο ἐμελέτησε σοβαρά τό θέμα κατά τήν διάρκεια τοῦ ἔτους καί

τελικά τό ἀπεφάσισε. Σό πανηγύρι θά λάβει χώρα μέσα στόν χῶρο σταθμεύσεως

Σό λληνικό Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ, θά λάβει χώρα στόν χῶρο τοῦ Κάρ-πάρκ τῆς

Κοινότητος- νορίας Νόργουντ καί Ἀνατολικῶν Προαστείων. Σό λληνικό

Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ, σκοπό ἔχει τήν ψυχαγωγία ὅλων μας, ἰδιαίτερα ὅλων ατῶν

πού βρίσκονται πλησιέστερα στήν περιοχή. Σό λληνικό Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ, θά

λάβει χώρα τό άββατο τῆς Ἀπόκρεως, 26 Υεβρουαρίου 2011 καί θά ἀρχίσει ἀπό

τίς 5μμ. μέχρι 10.30μμ. Ἡ τετραμελή ὀρχήστρα Ζορμπᾶ μέ τήν βοήθεια μουσικῶν

τῆς ὁμογενείας μας, ἔχουν ἑτοιμάσει ἕνα πέροχο πανηγυρικό πρόγραμμα γιάὅλους μας.

Πλούσιο μενοῦ ἀπό ψητά, μεζέδες καί νοστημιές κάθε λογῆς.

λληνική σαλάτα, τυρόπιττες, χορτόπιττες καί καλαμπόκι.

Λαχταριστά γλυκίσματα, παγωτά, λουκουμάδες καί διάφορα εἴδη καφέ.

λληνικοί λεβέντικοι χοροί ἀπό διάφορα συγκροτήματα.

Παιχνίδια γιά ὅλες τίς ἡλικίες τῶν παιδιῶν.

λληνικό κέφι σέ μιά εχάριστη πολυεθνική καί οἰκογενειακή ἀτμόσφαιρα.

πίσκεψη, γνωριμία καί περιήγηση τοῦ ρθοδόξου Ἱεροῦ Ναοῦ.

Περιήγηση στό μοναδικό λληνο-Αστραλιανό Μουσεῖο τῆς Κοινότητος τοῦ

Προφήτη Ἠλία.

λᾶτε νά ἀπολαύσετε ἕνα εχάριστο ἀπόγευμα καί βραδάκι, κάτω ἀπό τίς

πυκνές φυλλωσιές τῶν δένδρων, μέ λίγο κοκκινέλι καί ρετσίνα. Μέ ζεστούς

καί νόστιμους μεζέδες. λᾶτε νά ἀναπολήστε γιά λίγο τά πανηγύρια τῆς

πατρίδας ὅπως τ’ἀφίσαμε. λᾶτε νά πάρετε μαζί μας μιά βόλτα στήν πίστα

ἤ κάτω ἀπο΄τά δένδρα, ὅσο κρατοῦν τά πόδια μας.

Μή ξεχνᾶτε, 26 Υεβρουαρίου, ὅλοι στό λληνικό Υεστιβάλ τοῦ Νόργουντ.

News from our Community-Parish

Baptisms

On Thursday 13th of January, the baptism of 24 year old Ms Susann Burnard took

place in our Church. The God-parent Theodora Zografos gave her the name

Susanna. The newly baptized Susanna had undergone basic catechism lessons.

We pray that the newly baptized Susann continues her spiritual growth and a

sacramental life. We wish illumintation from above to the God-parent so that she

may cousel and guide the newly illumined Susann according to the will of God.

On Saturday 15th of January the charming son of Mr John and Mrs Samar

Makrides was baptized in our Church. The God-father Mr Sotirios Bois gave him

the name Sebastian. May the parents of the newly-baptized rejoice in him always

joyful and close to God and may his God-father always be worthy and see him

married.

The Greek School of the Comm unity-Parish of Prophet Elias

This year, as you are probably aware, all the classes of our Greek School will be

under our own roof, behind our Church. Our classes offer comfort, security,

freedom, protection and quality. Students should understand that it is their own

school and they must take care of it and keep it clean. The Agiasmos for the new

school year will take place after Divine Liturgy on Sunday 6th February 2011.

N.B.!!!

Parents who wish to enrol their children in our Greek School must do so as soon

as possible. This will enable us to have books ready and to engage appropriate

teaching-staff. Late enrolment helps no-one. It is poor justification for parents to

say they didn’t know children could have been enrolled from last year; how can it

be that enrolment is sought for other schools early – sometimes even while the

child is in the belly of the mother! – and yet Greek School is neglected? And

since books take three weeks to arrive, what lessons can be taught in the

meantime? Furthermore, how can it be expected that children can be enrolled at

the last minute, since a teacher wouldn’t be available for that number? We havesecured teaching-staff for the number of students who have already enrolled.

The programme for classes in 2011 is given below, along with starting date:

Every Tuesday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 4 pm – 7 pm, including dancing, beginning

Tuesday 8th

February.

Every Friday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 4 pm – 6.30 pm, including dancing, beginning

Friday 11th February.

Every Saturday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 9 am – 12 noon, including dancing, beginning

Saturday 12th February.

Every Thursday: High School, 4 pm – 6 pm, beginning 10th February.

Remember that lessons in Greek language and dance are free. Only the books

must be bought; other contributions may be offered at the Annual Walkathon in

July and the Annual School Dance in September.

The Norwood Greek Festival

Since the Annual Glendi of Adelaide ceased last year, people have approached

us asking if we could stage something. We shall help as much as we can, they

said, just so long as something can be continued to unite the Greek community

and especially our children. The Executive Committee has looked long and hard

at the matter and, has made a decision. Mindful of the fact that there are many

functions in our area on the night, and in no way wishing to hinder the success of

any arrangements, nonetheless the proposal has been accepted to hold a

Festival on the Saturday of Apokreas, whatever the date each year. After much

consideration, we have agreed to start with something simple this year, see what

happens and make further decisions accordingly. The festival will be held in our

carpark on Saturday 26th February 2011. Special guests will open it at 6 pm and

it will finish, God willing, at 10.30 pm. The Organizing Committee, President,

Executive Committee, Philoptohos and Youth seek the support and assistance of

all our community in this endeavour. We thank everyone who has eagerly

promised to help in whatever way. Future Newsletters will announce the

donations which may be made to start off our programme.

The Norwood Greek Festival will be held on Saturday February 26, 2011, from

5.pm until 10.30pm at the large open space of our Community-Parish Car Park,

87 Beulah Road, Norwood.

This cultural festival coincides with the various festivals held in Greece on the

same day called “Glendi”. This recreational event serves many purposes, but in

particular uniting us all and reaching out to the broader Community.

Entry is free and we call upon you to come and enjoy:

: Tour of the Greek Orthodox Church

Entertainment will be provided by the famous Greek Band “Zorba” and the

participation of various Greek Dancing groups of our Community.

So come along with family and friends to a relaxing evening, under the shade of

the lush green trees, enjoying authentic Greek cuisine, a bottle of retsina and

having a go on the dance floor doing the ZORBA!

Pilgrimage to Pantanassa

Last Tuesday afternoon 18th January, with the blessings of His Grace, a group of

our devout parishioners will fly to Sydney for a three-day pilgrimage to the Holy

Monastery of the Panagia of Pantanassa. Fr Stavros will be accompanying thegroup. They will return, God willing, on Friday the 21st of January. More details as

to how the trip went will be published in next weeks Newsletter.
