Το 20o Διεθνές Χορωδιακό Φεστιβάλ Καρπενησίου και ο 14ος Διεθνής Διαγωνισμός Χορωδιών “Antonio Vivaldi”,

αποτελούν μέρος ενός σημαντικού θεσμού στον χώρο της χορωδιακής μουσικής που έχει αναπτυχθεί στον τόπο μας.

Κατά τη διάρκεια του, το Καρπενήσι γίνεται πόλος έλξης, για περισσότερους από 1000 φίλους της χορωδιακής τέχνης.

Το Φεστιβάλ και ο Διαγωνισμός διοργανώνονται από το 1988, από το Μουσικό Πολιτιστικό Σύλλογο Καρπενησίου

“Antonio Vivaldi”. Καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής και πρόεδρος της οργανωτικής επιτροπής είναι ο καθηγητής Γιώργος

Ξενάκης, ενώ αυτό το χρόνο οι εκδηλώσεις συνδιοργανώνονται με τον Δήμο Καρπενησίου. Το επόμενο Φεστιβάλ έχει

προγραμματιστεί για τις 30 Ιουνίου – 3 Ιουλίου 2017.

International Choir Festival and Competition “Antonio Vivaldi”

The 20th International Choir Festival of Karpenissi and the 14th International Choir Competition "Antonio Vivaldi" are

part of a long-lived cultural course in the field of choir music. These events have turned the holding place of the Festival,

Karpenissi, into a pole of attraction, culture and tourism, as more than 1000 friends of the choir art visit the city. The

International Choir Festival of Karpenissi and the International Choir Competition "Antonio Vivaldi" have been

organized since 1988 by the Musical Cultural Association Choir of Karpenissi “Antonio Vivaldi”, while since its

establishment the artistic director and president of the organizing committee is Professor George Xenakis. This year the

Choir events are held in collaboration with the Municipality of Karpenissi. The International Choir Festival of Karpenissi

is being held the last week of June each year. All these years, a plethora of quality choirs, chamber choirs, orchestras,

ensembles and artistic jury members, have participated in the International Choir Festival of Karpenissi. Several choirs

have joined our events over the past few years, originating from countries such as Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania,

Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Turkey, France, Hungary, Kenya, South Africa, Israel, Russia,

Croatia, Norway, Phillipines, Serbia, and Singapore. The International Choir Competition “Antonio Vivaldi” is being

co-held with the Festival of Karpenissi since 1988. All the participating choirs, receive confer degrees and medals, while

the first prize in each category is accompanied with a money trophy. The next AV Choral Event in Greece will be held

close to June 30-July 3, 2017.

The AV International Choral Events are being organized in three Balkan cities: Karpenissi(Greece), Gabrovo (Bulgaria)

φέρουμε κοντά ετερογενείς κουλτούρες και πολιτισμούς από διάφορα μέρη του κόσμου.

Ως καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής των Χορωδιακών δρώμενων και γνωρίζοντας την ποιότητα

των συμμετεχουσών χορωδιών, ανυπομονώ για τις εμφανίσεις και την ευγενή άμιλλα

κατά την διάρκεια του Διαγωνισμού. Ευχαριστώ πολύ την οργανωτική και την

καλλιτεχνική επιτροπή του φεστιβάλ, το Δήμο Καρπενησίου, την Περιφέρεια Στερεάς

Ελλάδας και την Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Ευρυτανίας, καθώς επίσης και τις

συμμετέχουσες χορωδίες. Την χρονιά αυτή έχουμε την χαρά να γιορτάζουμε τα 30 χρόνια ζωής της χορωδίας

Καρπενήσιου, της χορωδίας της πόλης μας.

Greeting from the Artistic Director

All of these years, our aim is to promote the Choir Art and bring together heterogeneous cultures from different

countries and places of the world. The majority of the participating choirs consist of highly qualified

conductors and choir members, demonstrating their sincere respect to the choral heritage. As an artistic

director, I expect outstanding live performances as well as an incredible competition event. For the

organization of our choral events in Greece, I would like to personally thank the organizing committee of the

Festival, the municipality of Karpenissi and the Regional Division of Evrytania, but also all the participating

choirs. I finally wish a pleasant accommodation full of unforgettable moments to everybody. This year, we

are glad to celebrate the 30 years of life for the Choir of Karpenissi “Antonio Vivaldi”: the choir of our city.

of Evrytania into the center of chora l art in Greece. Gathering numerous brilliant choirs from Greece and

abroad, the International Choir Festival and the International Choir Contest “Antonio Vivaldi”, is a great event

that the Regional Division of Evrytania strongly embraces and supports.

Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά και τιμή σας καλωσορίζουμε στο 20o Διεθνές Χορωδιακό

Φεστιβάλ και στον 14ο Διεθνή Διαγωνισμό Χορωδιών Antonio Vivaldi. Χορωδίες

από όλο τον κόσμο πλημμυρίζουν με χρώμα, μελωδίες και μουσική κάθε χρόνο την

πόλη μας. Η σημασία της μουσικής παιδείας έχει από αρχαιοτάτων χρόνων

αναγνωριστεί. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι στην Αρχαία Ελλάδα ο καλλιεργημένος

άνθρωπος λεγόταν «μουσικός ανήρ», ενώ στην κλασσική Ελλάδα η μουσική

συμπεριλαμβάνεται στην εκπαίδευση των παιδιών. Διαχρονικά σήμερα η μουσική γαληνεύει την ψυχή μας

και ομορφαίνει την καθημερινότητά μας. Για το λόγο αυτό σύμφωνα με τον Πλάτωνα «η εκπαίδευση στη

μουσική είναι ανάγκη επιτακτική, γιατί περισσότερο από οτιδήποτε στον κόσμο ο ρυθμός και η αρμονία

επηρεάζουν το ενδότερο κομμάτι του εαυτού μας και ο καθένας από εμάς θα πρέπει να ξέρει πώς να το

χαλιναγωγήσει».

Vivaldi”. Every year, choirs from all over the world, color with their presence, melodies and music our city.

The significance of the musical education and culture is well recognized since ancient times. It is a fact that in

Ancient Greece the cultured man called "music man" that’s why all over the years the music calms the soul

and beautifies our lives. As the philosopher Platon said: “Musical education is an urgent need, because more

than anything in the world, rhythm and harmony affect the innermost part of us, helping each one of us to rein

in it."

“D.G.Kiriac” Male Choir was founded in 1955 and conducted by Mr.

Emanuel Popescu for 44 years. Since 1999, Prof. George Paraschivescu

has been the choir’s conductor. Giving concerts in the most important

cities of Romania and participating in International Choral Festivals in

France, Italy, Russia, Hungary, Czech, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal,

Yugoslavia and Greece, where they got numerous prizes. The members

of the choir are doctors, teachers, engineers, lawyers, priests and others are workers and students. The choir’s repertoire consists of

religious songs, folk and classical songs. “D.G.Kiriac” Choir have been carrying on their activities at the “Culture House of Unions”,

an important cultural institution in Pitesti. In 2004, the members of the choir set up “D.G.Kiriac” Cultural Association. “D.G.Kiriac”

Male Choir have had a lot of cultural exchanges with choirs from France, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria, playing

an important part in making choral music lovers get together. “D.G.Kiriac” Choir is also under the conductor’s baton of professor

Silviu Deaconescu, who is the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir in Pitesti. Through all the concerts given all over

the country and abroad “D.G.Kiriac” Choir have proved to be the best messengers of the Romanian choral music.

The choir is a vocal group that glorifies God through spiritual songs. It

contributes to the development of the Church Grace, accompanying the

different ceremonies or sacraments. This choir is the instrument of

evangelization of Jesus Christ of messages through the hymns. Youth in

the Church Grace is the spearhead, it is the platform that brings together

all the movements and church associations, it is defined not as a category of persons of a definite age (those under 35 years),

according to international criterion, but as a mindset of people of all ages whose souls who live in the Lord Jesus Christ do not age;

This vision of the association church la grace youth can be taken as the church in miniature, the church in the church in its aspect

composition, education and development.

Chamber Church Choir “St. martyr Pantelejmon”, Vele –

The choir was formed back in 2004 and driven by its enthusiastic spirit

and primarily love toward spiritual music and collective singing.

Conducted by Professor Slavica Stavreva, the choir has participated not

only in man musical and cultural manifestations of the town of Veles, but

also has active participations the religious services by singing the Divine

Golden Liturgy by Atanas Badev printed in Leipzig1898. At the beginning, the choir sang in the temples of the Vardar Eparchy such

as “St martyr Pantelejmon” “St Mary” and “The Ascension of Christ”, later in Kavadarci, Demir Kapija, Negotino and Gevgelija

whereas today during liturgy in the church “Assumptions of Holy Mary”- Veles. In the frame of the manifestation “Veles-town of

culture” in 2005, the chorus performed at a concert of spiritual music. The choir recorded a song for the town of Veles, and 2006

the choir performed at the Balkan choir festival ”Janko Mustakov-Mikis Teodorakis” in Svishtof (Bulgaria). In 2007, within the

manifestation “Days of Justinian” the choir performed at the choir festival of chamber music in the church “St Savior” in Skopje.

There continued performances at the formal academy for the 30 –year –old jubilee of the existence of the Vardar Eparchy as well as

performances in honor of the celebrations of “St.Clemen of Ohrid” and the protector of the town of Veles “St martyr Pantelejmon”

whose name proudly carries our choir. In 2011, the choir performed in Vienna with a concert of spiritual and worldly music following

invitations by the local ambassador Mr. Gjorgji Filipov. Apart from the Hymns and compositions of worldly character of the choir

repertoire mostly consists of spiritual a capella compositions which are the most emotional challenge and an imperative of the

chamber church choir” St martyr Pantelejmon” in nourishing this most specific genre of sacral music literature.

Χορωδία Ρεγκαβίμ, Τελ-Αβίβ - Ισραήλ

Regavim Choir was founded in Tel-Aviv, Israel, in 1983 by a group of

music lovers and was active as a formal representative choir of the city

of Tel-Aviv in its first years, under the musical management of the

conductor Maestro Ze’ev Ulman. Between 1992-2008 the choir operated

as an independent fellowship, adopted by the Frankfurt-Community-

Center. Regavim Choir is a mixed community choir with an artistic

character, consisting of 40 singers, performing in 4 voices: Israeli secular

and Hebrew traditional pieces, folk songs of various countries, gospels, jazz, vocal interpretations for instrumental pieces and, of

course, classical choir pieces. The repertoire is performed partly accompanied by piano and partly a-capella. Maestro Ze’ev Ulman

is the conductor and musical manager of Regavim Choir and he also writes the unique arrangements composed especially for the

choir. Regavim Choir has taken part in numerous festivals and competitions in Israel and Europe and has won prizes and medals in

prominent international choir-music events. The choir has recorded a professional pilot CD. Regavim Choir participates regularly

in professional productions, formal national events, TV and radio broadcasts, some in collaboration with eminent Israeli musicians.

Community Choir “MELODIA” Lympion – Cyprus

The choir was founded in October 2012 as part of a creative effort for

broader cultural activity and development of the community Lympia. The

mixed four-voices choir has about 40 members. Despite of the short

period of its operation, the choir has to show a significant quadrophonic

repertoire of artistic Greek-Cypriot and traditional songs, religious hymns

from the repertoire of the western church, and extracts from musicals. The choir has been involved in several choral festivals all

over Cyprus. Special moments are the distinguished cooperation with Greek-Norwegian Band Choir, in two concerts with great

success in the summer of 2013, the participation to the 5th International festival Choirs Musical in April of 2015 (where the choir

won the «public» prize) and the music-dance tribute to the great Greek composer George Zambetas in 2015.

Μικτή Χορωδία Δήμου Μεταμόρφωσης, Ελλάδα

Mixed Choir of the Municipality of Metamorfosis, Greece

The mixed choir of the Municipality of Metamorfosis was founded in

2012. Since then, it has held many concerts in the city of Metamorfosis

(tribute to rebetico, tribute to Manos Hatzidakis, international festival of union and friendship of people etc). Furthermore, it has

attended concerts with choir from the Municipality of Amarousio and the Municipality of Lycovrisi/Pefki. The musical repertoire

of the choir includes pieces of European music from the time of Renaissance until the 20th century, as well as harmonizations of

famous Greek songs (Tsitsanis, Theodorakis, Hatzidakis, Loizos etc). The choir is composed of 30 singers, from age 19 until 55. It

has been conducted from its establishment until today, by Nikos Kariotis and has been accompanied by Vaso Karioti on the piano.

Κύπρος

As part of its ongoing attempts to promote and enhance the cultural

activity in its communities, in 1996 the Council of Pera-Chorio and

Nissou established a four-voice choir. In the 20 years of its life, the choir

has participated in a number of prestigious choral festivals both in Cyprus

and abroad. Apart from several performances in Greece (Rhodes, Symi, Nafplio, Paleros, Ioannina), the choir performed in London

(2000), at the Verona International Choral Festival in Italy (2012) and the international Choral Festival (Signing World Fest ival) in

St. Petersburg, Russia (2015). In 2004 the choir released its first CD titled Me Mousa Tin Paradosi (Our Tradition, Our Muse) which

includes Cypriot traditional songs with piano and traditional Cypriot instruments accompaniment. In September 2016, the choir will

perform its repertoire to be included in its second CD with sacred and secular choral songs by Greek, British and Italian composers.

Adult Choir “Antonio Vivaldi” of Karpenissi – Greece

The adult choir of Karpenisi was established in 1986, with the initiative

of the Music Professor George Xenakis, which is the conductor of the

choir since its foundation. The choir of Karpenisi, aims to conserve and

to promote the choir art, and to actively participate at the cultural and

social life of its city, the city of Karpenisi in Greece. The choir has given

more than 100 concerts in the municipality of Evrytania (Greece), in all

cities of Greece and abroad (Bulgaria 1989, Hungary 1990, Cyprus 1992,

Romania 2003-2007, etc). The choir has participated in the most prominent Choir Festivals in Greece and performed numerous

works for orchestra and choir by composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn, with the symphony

orchestras of the Dramatic Theatre “K.Kisimov” (Bulgaria), Pernik (Bulgaria), Razgrant (Bulgaria), Philipoupole (Bulgaria). It has

also put on the Holy Liturgy and the “Axion Esti” composed by Mikis Theodorakis. Since 1988, the choir organizes the International

Choir Festival of Karpenisi and the International Choir Competition “Antonio Vivaldi”. Since its founding, the conductor of the

choir is George Xenakis. This year the choir celebrates its 30 years of continuous presence in the Choral Art.

Mixed choir of the Cultural Centre of Workers in ATE -

Piraeus Bank, Greece

In 2011, the Cultural Centre of Workers in ATE - Piraeus Bank created

the four-voice mixed choir, which has 20 chorists and celebrates now five

years of music being and action. In this musical journey, the choir

participated in numerous events, contributing to the promotion of Culture, Music Act, the team spirit and generally the Creative

Coexistence. Some important performances include the tribute "from Papadiamanti to Elytis" (2011), the theatrical performance

"WE AND TIME" Jenny Karezi Theatre (2011), the event "The choir welcomes Spring" held in Polyhoros DIELEFSIS (2012), the

"European Music Day" at the Numismatic Museum of Athens, with the Children's Choir Folk Song, invited by the Workshop

Experiential music of Mariza Koch (2014), the Christmas celebration for the patients of Agios Savvas Cancer Hospital (2015), the

participation in the 3rd International Choral Festival Syros (2015) and the tribute to the poet " TASSOS LIVADITIS" (2015).

Mixed Choir of Stylida, Greece

The Mixed Choir of Stylida, was created the spring of 1994 as an

initiative of the members of Stylida musical association. In 1996, the

choir started to operate under the sponsorship of municipality of Stylida

and it is renamed to “municipal Choir of Stylida". In 2008 it returns to its

original state and name, as the “Choir of the Musical Association of

Stylida” and operates under the sponsorship of its own members, as well

as donations from its friends and supporters. The Choir with its actions and events, engages with the local community and manages

to “culturally” bring back to life the city of Stylida in various ways. It has participated in significant Choir Festivals and concerts in

many Greek cities. The Choir’s repertoire includes many different music genres dating from renaissance to this day. Since the

formation of the Choir , its directors and conductors have been: I.Saratsis (1994-2003), D. Grivas (2004-2012). From September of

2012 till this day the Choir’s teacher and conductor is the musician, guitarist and composer Dimitris Kontogiannis.
