Reactions 1289 - 20 Feb 2010 Interferon-β-1a Chills, fatigue, pain and depressive mood: case report A woman was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in July 1999, when she was approximately 21 years old; she started receiving IM interferon-β-1a [Avonex; dosage not stated] that August. However, she experienced severe adverse drug effects, such as chills, headaches, aches, fatigue and depressive mood [time to reaction onset not stated]. Her symptoms persisted despite treatment with anti-inflammatories and, in January 2000, IM interferon- β-1a was replaced with SC interferon-β-1a [Refib] 22µg [frequency not stated]. However, her symptoms recurred [time to reaction onset not stated], and the drug was withdrawn after 4 weeks. In August 2000, she began receiving SC interferon-β-1b and concomitant anti- inflammatories with good tolerance apart from initial head- and body aches.
