September was New Generations Month Aspelia is proud for support a Rotaract and an Interact Club This year, the Interact program marks its 50th anniversary

Members of the Interact club of Ulverston, England, hold a car wash to raise money for a public pool circa 1964 The first Interact club was chartered 5 November 1962 at Melbourne High School, Florida, USA, a few months after the program was approved by the Rotary International Board of Directors. The club and its 39 charter members were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Melbourne.

Interact’s name is a combination of “international” and “action.” Interact clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Interact is open to young men and women, ages 12-18. Learn more: Historic Moments: Interact

President’s Announcements President Eleni announced that this was a Joint Meeting with RC Nicosia. She welcomed the fellow Rotarians and she thanked DDG Fantinos for attending the meeting and making a presentation. She remind everybody that Aspelia set the target for a 100% registration to the Cyprus District Conference on April. She said that members owe this to their club and to Aspelia member DG Kevork. Forthoming events: Entrepreneurship: On Saturday 6 October Rotary Club Nicosia Aspelia organizes its second on a series of Entrepreneurships Seminars with the aim to open new horizons and inspire in finding new solutions in nowadays challenging business environment. Speaker

Tickets for our mega Scholarships fundraising event “Soprano Katerina Mina Concert” On November 12th Concert with soprano Katerina Mina and Yiannis Hadjiloizou piano. At Pallas theatre at 20.30. A reception with Italian wines will follow. P Eleni especially thanked an anonymous sponsor who donated 1000 euro for this event, and wished more sponsors to get inspired by this kind gesture. Blocks of 10 tickets are available from P Eleni or from VP Louisa Coudounaris. Each ticket is only 20 euro and it promises unforgettable melodies followed by a reception. The event is under the auspices of Mr Yiorkadjis mayor of Nicosia who also offered the Pallas free of charge. Speaker on 11th October 2012 Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis will be our speaker during our meeting. Next meeting On Thursday 4 October it will be a drinks’ fellowship meeting at the Paddock Bar

RC Nicosia VP Announcements VP Robert Stambouli announced his visit at a Rotary Club in California. He was impressed by the attendance where 100 members out of about 120 were at the meeting. He also enjoyed a sitting down lunch for just 35 dollars.

DDG Fantinos Hadjimitsis presented the subject:

“The Vision for Rotary Clubs” (attached) The presentation was an alert and a motivation tool to Rotary Clubs so as to move forward. DDG urged clubs to get out of apathy and he raised the following issues: To question if a Club is right To set a Vision for the next 5 years To apply firstly a sustainable strategic plan for the next 2-3 years To organise for this cause Business Meetings To engage members into a brain storming and formulate a plan The need of efficient Leadership - Management and team work In conclusion he stressed the importance of continuity and the support of previous officials

Birthdays and Raffle winner

An interesting discussion followed the presentation and members raised various questions.

P Eleni commented on the excellent support the Aspelia past officials provide to the club and she praised the great Aspelia fellowship spirit. She thanked DDG Fantinos for his most informative and inspiring presentation by presenting him the banner of the club
