JUNE 2013 THE ORTHODOX VISION 3
It is the day of the Resurrection; let us be radiant in the festival, and let
us embrace one another. Let us say, O brethren, even to those who hate
us: Let us forgive all things on the
Resurrection. . ." [Resurrection Doxastikon in the 1st Plagal tone)
T he closing Hymn of the Resurrection Service reveals
a great blessing bestowed to
us during the Paschal Celebration. The Hymn asks us to "forgive all
things" even those who "hate us" in
the spirit of the ever-ending joy of our Savior's Holy Resurrection. A
truly forgiving person is always
thinking about the Cross of Jesus
Christ upon which God displays His infinite love.
What does it mean that Jesus dies on the Cross for the forgiveness of
our sins? Let's look at what the
Resurrection represents for us as
Orthodox Christians, since it is the single most important event of our
faith.
W i t h J e s u s ' s d ea t h a n d
Resurrection, death becomes an
opportunity for rebirth. In fact, death becomes necessary for rebirth and
for entry into the Kingdom. The
Resurrection, then, not only signifies
a literal death in order for everlasting life to occur, but it is also symbolic
of what happens to us spiritually on a
daily basis. When we experience the Resurrection, we feel a great joy
which begins in this life, since we
gain a foretaste of the Resurrection even before our physical death. His
All Holiness Bartholomew states in
his Paschal Encyclical: And more than joy, we are filled with strength.
For whoever believes in the
resurrection is unafraid of death; and
whoever is unafraid of death is
spiritually unyielding and unbending inasmuch as what may be the most
terrible threat for the majority and for
disbelievers is of little significance to the Christian; for it is the entrance to
life itself. The faithful Christian lives
the Resurrection even prior to his or
her natural death.
In order for us to allow God and
His love into our hearts and into our lives, we must allow our sinful
thoughts to die on a daily basis and
replace them with loving and productive ones: ones that will help
us spiritually on our own journey
towards salvation. Perhaps the most
important gift that God has given to us, therefore, in achieving salvation
and entry into His Kingdom is the
power of forgiveness: forgiveness of others and even of ourselves.
When we hang onto our anger and bitterness towards others, it not only
hurts us physically, but hurts us
spiritually as well, blocking our
hearts from the love we are asked by
God to feel for others. Jesus leaves us with the most exemplary act of
forgiveness at the Cross as He
forgives the thief of all wrongdoings
and promises him a place in Paradise. He also says to the Holy
Father about those who have
crucified Him, "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do."
Furthermore, Judas's biggest sin is not his betrayal of Jesus as much as it
is his inability to forgive Himself,
which keeps Him from feeling God's
love and mercy, and therefore, remains unrepentant. In fact,
forgiveness and repentance go hand-
in- hand, since they are two sides of the same coin. You cannot be truly
repentant unless you ask for
forgiveness, and you cannot ask for forgiveness until you yourself have
forgiven.
Forgiveness is not always an easy task. But when we have faith in God,
He helps us with this process. We
will know that the work of forgiveness is complete when we
experience the spiritual freedom that
comes as a result. God beckons us to
forgive. He wants us to walk in the forgiveness of our sins and the sins
of others, for in His Son, the
forgiveness of God towards humankind is perfected through the
Resurrection.
A perfect example of everyone
putting aside their negative thoughts
and / or differences becomes
apparent in the way our community comes together for Holy Week and
Pascha. Our love for one another is
exemplary and our glimpse into the Kingdom quite evident as we come
together for one common goal.
On that note, I would like to thank
the community for the combined and
loving effort during this year's

Paschal celebration. Prez. Anthoula, Niko, Petros and I
were overjoyed to celebrate our Lord's Resurrection with
all of you! We thank all the volunteers who contributed to making this Paschal journey a very memorable one.
Many of you contributed countless hours helping and
attending church services. The multi-colored Epitafios was especially beautiful
thanks to Mrs. Kalliope and the ladies who volunteered
to help decorate, and of course, thanks to Mr. Jimmy for his excellent mageritsa after the Anastasi service.
Many thanks to our Holy Trinity Choir and Psaltes for
leading us through Holy Week and Pascha, particularly
Mr. George and his wife Julia who came from Katerini Greece to pray and chant with us during these services. It
has been a truly inspiring and uplifting experience.
As we continue on in the Paschal celebration, our Church has some very important upcoming events. The
first is our annual Festival on May 31, June 1 and 2,
which is our most important fundraiser. I encourage everyone to volunteer and support this very important
event. Without a successful festival, we cannot meet our expenses for the year.
Another very important celebration is the 100 year
anniversary of our parish on November 30, the Feast day
of St Andrew. For the past 100 years, we have sustained as a God loving community through thick and thin,
blessed to uphold and maintain this beautiful church and
community along with the traditions that our ancestors built and established, who understood the importance of
the church in their lives. We therefore need the support
of the community to make sure the celebration is a success and that we secure the future of Holy Trinity
Church and her community for future generations to
come. Make the church and our 100 year celebration a
priority. We need your continued love and support both
financially and in terms of volunteering your talents.
Remember, stewardship is not just your monetary contribution but also the giving of your time and talents,
which God has given you to share with others.
Christos Anesti!

Pascha and I
was happy to see so many of
you during the
Holy Days , p r a y i n g
together.
The weather
permitted us to
c e l e b r a t e
A n a s t a s i outside, and it
was so nice to
see everyone o u t d o o r s
singing the Xristos Anesti, loud and clear for all to
hear. It was so nice to have a Byzantine chanter from Katerini, Greece, Giorgos Kounatidis and his wife
Julia, chanting for us during Holy Week. It was such a
wonderful experience.
At this writing, our kitchen its working continuously
with ladies baking day and night to prepare all the
desserts that we will be selling at the Festival. Pastitsia and Mousakathes (all 80 of them) are done, the
posters have been printed, the signs ordered, raffle
tickets have been sent out, donation calls are being
made, and the recruiting of volunteers continues. It takes so many people working at once to put on our
annual Festival. I hope to see our youngsters involved
more and more in the different stations, and they can experience first hand all the hard work that everyone
puts in.
As weve mentioned many times, without our
annual Festival , we could not fulfill our obligations
during the year.
On a separate note, we are counting down the days that the Trinity Parish School has left on our premises.
We will be sad to see them go, as they have filled our
corridors and classrooms with laughter, baby chickens,
seeds, and so many interesting things. We wish them much luck in their refurbished school. They will be
m i s s e d . Hopefully, our
rooms will be
f u l l o f youngsters once
again in the
fall , but under
the new tenants.
I would like to
b r i n g t o e v e r y o n e s a t t e n t i o n
another matter. Please keep in
mi n d t ha t ,
according to
our bylaws, when you are
ca ll ing the
office to schedule a sacrament, you must be a Steward in good standing for the year that the sacrament will
take place.
I am clarifying this as to avoid any future problems
and misunderstandings.
Also remember that all of us are volunteers and we
spent a great deal of our personal time and talent to accomplish most of the work needed for the upkeep
and operation of our community and facilities. Every
now and then, it would be nice to hear a compliment instead of criticism. Its a lot easier criticizing from the outside , than getting involved and being on the
frontline.
We are in need of a new Washer/Dryer unit, as the
one we have has broken down. I have asked the
organizations of our church for donations to purchase a new one. Anyone else interesting in making a
donation , please get in touch with us.
Hope to see you all at the Festival with your
families and friends. Lets make it a successful one.
Thank you and God bless.

Small boy's definition of Father's Day: It's just like Mother's Day only you don't spend so much."
Daughters of Penelope by Helen Yeotsas, President
C hristos Anesti! Who can believe it's June already and our year is coming to a close!? Many thanks to the entire
community for coming out and supporting
our huge Mother's Day Flower, Bake and Gift Sale once again this year! It was our
6th year doing this event and we love it
more each and every year. We didn't have a single plant
left in the end! I hope everyone's plants blossom beautifully this summer! Our Acts of Kindness were
perhaps our most important and moving achievement
this past year. For May and June we had a toiletry drive for the Center for Women and Families, and we are
treating our Seniors to pizza, as well as planting flowers
on our church property. Individually our Sisters have pledged to commit Acts of Kindness in their everyday
lives, hoping to make a small difference in the
communities in which we live.
Our May meeting was jam packed with a full agenda.
We wrapped up the year and had our Elections for new
officers. Our new officers are: President : Kathy Yiannoulis
Vice President: Theodora Fatibene
Treasurer: Kathy Santella
Corresponding Secretary: Barbara Tsoupas Recording Secretary: Stella Capiris
Priestess: Connie Gorzelany
We wish our new officers well, and I'd like to thank the outgoing board for their incredible devotion and
hard work. (Several past board members are remaining
on the new board) Our end of year Luncheon is scheduled for June 8 at Cinzano's Restaurant in
Fairfield, and we are giving our scholarships to students
in our community again this year.
I want to say that the past four years have been
wonderful for me and I've been so happy and proud to
lead this wonderful group of women. Please always consider supporting our events and if you are interested
in joining, you can see any of the members, who can tell
you how to go about it. We've had amazing growth and activity in our group and I'm sure it will continue that in
the upcoming years.
Thanks to Father Andreas, George Mourizakis and
our Parish council, as well as Eleni Limberis and Office
staff, for their help and support, and thanks once again
to our Holy Trinity family for their love. See you at our Festival, where you'll find our members at the Greek
Traditional Foods ("Deli") booth, as well as throughout
our entire festival, helping out in all areas.

"By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong." - Charles Wadsworth
Philoptochos Kalliope Tsitsipas, President
C hristos Anesti! I would like to start with a heart-
felt thank you to every-
one who supported our Easter Food and Baked Goods sale again
this year! The proceeds from this
effort will help the less fortunate
and others in need. I would espe-cially like to thank all of the la-
dies who helped to bake, cook, or
sell all of our delicious goodies. Thank you for taking up your
precious family time to help.
Besides cooking and baking for Easter, we prepared and delivered
food baskets for the Evergreen
Network , which is an organiza-
tion for victims and families af-fected by AIDS. We also pre-
pared a meal for 200 people and
delivered it to the Rescue Mission in Bridgeport. A big thanks to all
who participated.
Once again, we would like to
thank everyone for their generosi-ty during our relief efforts for
Greece. On the morning of April

of clothing and food . This time,
the recipient was the Holy Me-tropolis of Thessaloniki. A very
special Thank You to the ladies who helped us fold, sort, bag, and
box every single item that was donated. They include: Miranda
Baker, Eleftheria Fatsi, Helen
Spyrou, Lena Protopapas, and Vicky Andriotis. Your generosity
for this project has been stagger-
ing, and we are very grateful. God bless you all!
A special and heartfelt thank
you is especially warranted dur-
ing this time of year, when so many hands are helping to pre-
pare the pastries and man the
booths that help to make our an-nual Olympiad Festival a success.
Thank you to all of you for your
love and dedication to our
Philoptochos and to our Church. Kai tou Hronou!
As another year comes to a
close , we would like to thank all of the Philoptochos ladies and
gentlemen who work tirelessly
throughout the year on a variety of projects and events that help to

Trinity, but that we continue to support our National Ministry

The End of Another School Year.
Congratulations to all Graduates!
A nother school year has come to its end. On
June 10, we will celebrate the end of the school year and the students will receive their
certificates, diplomas, honors and plaques. With the
help, understanding and support of our church, Father
Andreas, PTO, Parish Council and parents the opera-tion of our school went well.
During the year our students presented a few pro-grams for the October 28th, Christmas, Greek letters
celebration, Clean Monday, and March 25th. They
participated in the Greek Parade in New York City. Thus our children understand the particularities of the
Greek Orthodox Tradition by participating. Also our
children - every Monday and many times on Wednes-
day learn to dance. And of course like other years our 8th grade students (4) will participate in the 2013
Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek in New York State, on Monday June 17, 2013.
During the summer time it will be very beneficial for the children to keep up with the language to read simple stories and review and encourage them to talk
with grandparents, other relatives or friends who speak
the language. Also listening to Greek music and
songs
Have a nice and joyful summer with your children
and your families. Thank you! Ka Eleni
A Message From Our GOYA
T hank you to all that participated and helped to make our past events a success. We are in the process of
planning our end-of-the-year trip and hope that everyone will participate. One of our final fundraisers will
be our Fathers Day basket raffle. Please buy some raffles and try and win dad a gift!

Thats My Child
I was watching some little kids
play soccer. These kids were only five or six years old. They were
playing a real game - a serious
game. Two teams, complete with coaches, uniforms, and parents. I didn't know any of
them, so I was able to enjoy the game without the dis-
traction of being anxious about winning or losing. I
wished the parents and coaches could have done the same.
The teams were pretty evenly matched. I will just call
them Team One and Team Two. Nobody scored in the first period. The kids were hilarious. They were clumsy
and terribly inefficient. They fell over their own feet,
they stumbled over the ball, they kicked at the ball and missed it, but they didn't seem to care. They were having
fun.
In the second quarter, the Team One coach pulled out what must have been his first team and put in the scrubs,
except for his best player who now guarded the goal.
The game took a dramatic turn. I guess winning is im-portant ,even when you're five years old, because the
Team Two coach left his best players in, and the Team
One scrubs were no match for them.
Team Two swarmed around the little guy who was
now the Team One goalie. He was an outstanding ath-
lete, but he was no match for three or four who were also very good. Team Two began to score. The Team One
goalie gave it everything he had, recklessly throwing his
body in front of incoming balls, trying valiantly to stop them.
Team Two scored two goals in quick succession. It
infuriated the young boy. He became a raging maniac - shouting, running, diving. With all the stamina he could
muster, he covered the boy who now had the ball, but
that boy kicked it to another boy twenty feet away, and by the time he repositioned himself, it was too late -
Team Two scored a third goal.
I soon learned who the goalie's parents were. They
were nice, neat-looking people. I could tell that his dad
had just come from the office - he still had his suit and
tie on. They yelled encouragement to their son. I became
totally absorbed, watching the boy on the field and his parents
on the sidelines. After the third
goal, the little kid changed. He
could see it was no use, he could-n't stop them. He didn't quit, but
he became quite desperate, futili-
ty was written all over him. His father changed, too. He had been
urging his son to try harder, yell-
ing advice and encouragement.
But then he changed. He became anxious. He tried to
say that it was okay - to hang in there. He grieved for the
pain his son was feeling. After the fourth goal, I knew what was going to happen. I've seen it before.
The little boy needed help so badly, and there was no help to be had. He retrieved the ball from the net and
handed it to the referee and then he cried. He just stood
there while huge tears rolled down both cheeks. He went to his knees and put his fists to his eyes - and he cried
the tears of the helpless and brokenhearted.
When the boy went to his knees, I saw the father start onto the field. His wife clutched his arm and said, "Jim,
don't. You'll embarrass him." But he tore loose from her
and ran onto the field. He wasn't supposed to -- the game was still in progress. Suit, tie, dress shoes and all, he
charged onto the field, and he picked up his son so eve-
rybody would know that this was his boy, and he hugged
him and held him and cried with him. I've never been so proud of a man in my life. He carried him off the field,
and when he got close to the sidelines I heard him say,
"Scotty, I'm so proud of you. You were great out there. I want everybody to know that you are my son."
"Daddy," the boy sobbed, "I couldn't stop them. I tried, Daddy, I tried and tried, and they scored on me."
"Scotty, it doesn't matter how many times they scored
on you. You're my son, and I'm proud of you. I want you to go back out there and finish the game. I know you
want to quit, but you can't. And, son, you're going to get
scored on again, but it doesn't matter. Go on now."
It made a difference - I could tell it did. When you're
all alone and you're getting scored on - and you can't stop them, it means a lot to know that it doesn't matter to
those who love you. The little guy ran back on to the
field-and they scored two more times, but it was okay. Submitted by Vicky AndriotisAuthor Unknown
