SECTION IV METHYL CHLORIDE SPECTRAL MAPS AND WAVENUMBER DATA: 6.2 -7.7 For high resolution research in the regions of strong atmospheric absorptions due to water vapor and carbon dioxide, there is need to have reference spectra for molecular species other than these two molecules, H 2 0 and C0 2 . It has therefore been con- sidered useful to present the spectra of CH 3 C1, which have been recorded by the same FTS facility as was used in generating the information given in Section I of this handbook. These spectra observed between 1309 cm -1 (7.7 /xm) and 1594 cm -1 (6.2 /xm) have been included in the following pages (618-715) by adopting the for- mat of a spectral map on the even-numbered pages and wavenumber data on the opposite odd-numbered pages. If one examines the summary map attached to the inside of the back cover page of this book, one notices that for this spectral region, mostly water vapor standards have been listed in the previous handbook. 1 Only be- tween 1305-1345 cm -1 N 2 0 standards are also available. Incidentally, when look- ing at the same spectral map, we realize that there has been a scarcity of wavenumber standards in the far infrared. For the spectral region 25-350 c m -1 , pure rotational water vapor data were furnished. This deficiency of standards in the infrared has been partly rectified by FTS measurements on CH 3 OH in the region 100-350 cm -1 .
