Es necesario retomar el concepto de Filosofía comoAmor a la Sabiduría, y por consiguiente, de Amor a laVida.

Sabemos que en la actualidad se conjugan muchosaspectos lo suficientemente dolorosos como para quemuchas personas afirmen que la vida no vale nada, o sela quiten, sin otra opción que la muerte para evitar másdesdichas.

No pretendemos discutir si vale la pena traer o noniños al mundo, aunque esta es una ley inevitable; tam-poco nos incumbe opinar sobre el aborto, ni sobre el sui-cidio, ni sobre la libre decisión de poner fin a una enfer-medad terminal interrumpiendo tratamientos paliati-vos…, ni tantas otras cuestiones similares, que están enmanos de legisladores y juristas, si es que ellos se ponende acuerdo.

Lo que nos interesa es destacar que hemos olvidadoque el ser humano necesita algo más que alimentación,vestimenta, higiene, en fin, posibilidades fácticas en lavida. Si todos asumiéramos un compromiso serio con larealidad crítica que vivimos, si todos pudiéramos pres-cindir en igual medida de elementos superfluos, conseguridad que obtendríamos lo que necesita cada perso-na en cada rincón del mundo, empezando por una edu-cación adecuada.

Pero para llegar a esa actitud hay que borrar el egoís-mo.

Y para borrar el egoísmo hay que poner un poco deFilosofía en la vida.

No nos hace falta revisar la historia de la Filosofía– aunque no estaría de más – sino retomar el sentidoprofundo de esta ciencia y arte del saber vivir.

La Filosofía no es un artículo «abstracto» de escasovalor y nula aplicación práctica. Al contrario, le concedeun sentido a la existencia, un porqué a las cosas, y pro-porciona objetivos claros por los cuales empeñarse.

Así nace el Amor por la Vida.

Puede ser que muchos caminos estén obstruidos.Puede ser que a diario haya que soportar injusticias,moverse en entornos sin sentido, sufrir de impotenciaante situaciones que aparentemente no tienen remedio.

Pero la Filosofía ayuda a comprender. Y quien com-prende, tiene la posibilidad de buscar soluciones. No

podemos proponer arreglos que no lleguen a la causaprofunda y verdadera de las cosas. En la raíz del proble-ma está también la solución. En quien comprende el por-qué del mal, está también la recuperación del bien. Sobretodo, la recuperación del valor y del amor por la vida.

Algunos podrán pensar que individualmente nopodemos hacer gran cosa. Y que los esfuerzos persona-les se pierden en la masa de dificultades que nos ahogan.

Esto es falso. Ningún acto, por pequeño y sencilloque sea, se pierde. Y la suma de muchos actos realizadoscon buena voluntad y eficacia puede elevar pirámides,grano a grano, piedra a piedra.

Hay que atreverse a comenzar.Estamos en este mundo y esto significa que tenemos

algo que hacer. Hacer con Sabiduría, hacer con Amor ycon Inteligencia. La importancia de estas acciones laseñalará el futuro. A nosotros nos corresponde el aquí yel ahora. Nos corresponde utilizar la mejor herramientaque poseemos: la vida, empleándola de modo que todospodamos sentirnos un poco más útiles, más nobles, másbuenos, más humanos.

It is necessary to revive the concept of Philosophy asLove of Wisdom, and accordingly, of Love of Life.

We know that nowadays many sufficiently painfulaspects combine to make many people declare that lifeis worth nothing, or they take their own lives, seeing noother option than death as a way of avoiding furthermisfortunes.

We don’t intend to discuss whether or not it is worthbringing children into the world, although this is aninevitable law; nor is it for us to express an opinion aboutabortion, or suicide, or about the free decision to put anend to a terminal illness by interrupting palliativetreatments… or so many other similar questions, whichare in the hands of legislators and jurists, if they manageto come to an agreement.

What we are interested in is highlighting the fact thatwe have forgotten that the human being needssomething more than food, clothing, hygiene, in short,factual resources in life. If we all assumed a seriouscommitment to the critical reality we are living in, if wecould all do without superfluous elements in the samedegree, we would surely obtain what each person needsin every corner of the world, starting with anappropriate education.

But to arrive at that attitude it is necessary toeliminate selfishness.

And to eliminate selfishness it is necessary to put abit of Philosophy into life.

We don’t need to review the history of Philosophy– although it wouldn’t do any harm – but to revive thedeep meaning of this science and art of knowing how tolive.

Philosophy is not an “abstract” item of little valueand no practical application. On the contrary, it gives ameaning to existence, a why to things, and provides clearobjectives for which to strive.

This is how the Love for Life comes into being.

It may be that many ways are blocked. It may be thatevery day one has to bear injustices, move inmeaningless environments, suffer from a feeling ofhelplessness in the face of situations that apparentlyhave no solution.

But Philosophy helps us to understand. And someonewho understands has the possibility of looking forsolutions. We cannot propose solutions which do not goto the deep and true causes of things. At the root of theproblem also lies the solution. In someone whounderstands the reason for the evil also lies the recovery

of the good. Above all, the recovery of courage and lovefor life.

Some people may think that individually we cannotdo very much. And that personal efforts get lost in themass of difficulties that are stifling us.

This is false. No act, however small and simple, iswasted. And the sum of many acts carried out with goodwill and efficiency can raise pyramids, grain by grain,stone by stone.

We have to dare to begin.We are here in this world and this means that we

have something to do. To do with Wisdom, to do withLove and with Intelligence. The importance of theseactions will be shown by the future. Our job is in thehere and now. Our job is to use the best tool we have:life, using it in such a way that we can all feel a littlemore useful, more noble, more good, more human.

Estamos viviendo una profunda crisis de los valoresque hasta hace unos años considerábamos estables ycorrectos. Parece que todo está cambiando de maneracada vez más acelerada de lo que pensábamos.

La actual crisis, al ser global, afecta a múltiples ycomplejos sistemas de valores sociales, y no solo alaspecto económico. Afecta a una desestabilización delos valores espirituales, éticos y morales y aun psicológi-cos, en nuestras sociedades.

Parece como si el ser humano hubiera perdido surazón de «ser humano» y su contacto con la armonía dela naturaleza. Se siente engañado, traicionado, desencan-tado por tantas falsas promesas de bienestar, de justiciasocial y de un crecimiento económico interminable. Ytodo esto ha fracasado. Ya casi no le queda ni laEsperanza... en un mejor futuro como «tabla de salva-ción». Pero quizás aún hay esperanzas.... si el Ser Humanodespierta de su sueño de quimeras.

Es necesario, como ya lo apuntan reputados econo-mistas como Mervyn King, G. Osborne o EdwardMiliband entre otros, que el actual sistema capitalistafinanciero sea reemplazado por un criterio de las finan-zas menos vulnerable a las crisis, más equilibrado, dura-dero y lento, con inversiones realmente sólidas:

- en activos realmente productivos y en tecnologías«limpias» que respeten el medio ambiente y la ecología;

- en mejores sistemas de salud y de educación;- en viviendas de calidad;- en sistemas de transporte público eficientes;- y principalmente en educar para mejorar la ética

empresarial y de los funcionarios públicos, a fin de evitaro al menos disminuir la corrupción y la degradaciónsocial.

Pero arreglar la economía no es suficiente. Tambiénhay que luchar contra la mentalidad del consumismo.Los días de gastar dinero que no tenemos en cosas queno necesitamos para impresionar a gente que no nosimporta, deben terminar.

Debemos volver a aprender la diferencia entre lo querealmente necesitamos para tener calidad de vida y loque queremos, influenciados por las modas y por unapublicidad hipnotizadora y aplastante. Como decían losfilósofos estoicos, «la felicidad no consiste en tener más,

sino en aprovechar bien y conformarse con lo que setiene».

El verdadero bienestar se basa en tener un hogar y untrabajo decentes, buenos servicios públicos en unacomunidad social estable. Lo que debe importar es elcrecimiento de la calidad, no de la cantidad.

Además, el verdadero bienestar trasciende las preo-cupaciones meramente materiales. Reside en el amor denuestras familias, en el apoyo de nuestros amigos y en lafuerza o poder de cohesión social de nuestras comuni-dades humanas, pequeñas o grandes, no importa mucho.

El desafío que debemos enfrentar, en este mundo encrisis, es crear las condiciones necesarias: económicas,psicológicas, morales y espirituales, para colaborar demanera fraternal, coherente y cohesionada. Esta es tam-bién una llamada de colaboración para todos los orga-nismos que tengan el mismo sueño y objetivo, con el finde hacer todo esto posible.

En esto estamos trabajando en la OINA. Si realmentequeremos superar las enormes dificultades de la gran cri-sis global que ya ha inaugurado, hace unos cuantos años,esta nueva Edad Media mundial, es necesario colaborarentre nosotros, los que pensamos de una manera pareci-da, en medio de este mundo que se derrumba poco apoco.

We are living through a deep crisis of the values that,until a few years ago, we regarded as stable and correct.It seems that everything is changing much more quicklythan we had thought.

As the present crisis is global, it affects multiple andcomplex systems of social values, and not just theeconomic aspect. It affects the destabilisation ofspiritual, ethical, moral and even psychological values inour societies.

It seems as if the human being had lost his raisond’être as a «human being» and his contact with theharmony of nature. People feel cheated, betrayed,disillusioned by so many false promises of well-being,social justice and unending economic growth. And allthis has failed. Not even hope remains – or barely so –in a better world as a last hope to cling onto. But perhapsthere are still some hopes… if the human being can wakeup from his pipe dream.

As has already been pointed out by economists ofrepute such as Mervyn King, George Osborne andEdward Miliband, amongst others, the current capitalistfinancial system needs to be replaced by an approach tofinances that is less vulnerable to crises, an approachthat is more balanced, lasting and slow, with truly soundinvestments:

- in really productive assets and in «clean»technologies that respect the environment and ecology,

- in better health and education systems, - in quality housing, - in efficient public transport systems,- and above all in education to improve business

ethics and the ethics of civil servants, in order to avoidor at least reduce corruption and social decay.

But it is not sufficient to fix the economy. It is alsonecessary to fight against the mentality of consumerism.The days of spending money we don’t have on things wedon’t need to impress people we don’t care about mustend.

We must relearn the difference that exists betweenwhat we really need to have quality of life, and what wewant, influenced by fashions and a hypnotising andoverpowering form of advertising. As the Stoicphilosophers used to say, «happiness is not about havingmore, but about making good use of, and being contentwith what we have».

True well-being is based on having a decent homeand job, and good public services in a stable social

community. What should matter is the growth of quality,not quantity.

Furthermore, true well-being transcends merelymaterial concerns. It is to be found in the love of ourfamilies, the support of our friends and in the strength orpower of social cohesion of our human communities,regardless of whether they are big or small.

The challenge we have to face, in this world in crisis,is to create the necessary conditions - economic,psychological, moral and spiritual - to work together in afraternal, consistent and cohesive way. This is also a callto all organisations that have the same dream andobjective to work together to make all this possible.

This is what we are working on in the IONA. If wereally want to overcome the enormous difficulties of thegreat global crisis which, in the last few years, hasalready inaugurated this worldwide Middle Ages, it isnecessary for all those who think in a similar way to worktogether in this world which is gradually collapsing.

La Filosofía puede unir las fuentes del pasado y el pre-sente en esa visión global, amplia e integradora, trans-formándose en un verdadero motor del progreso, quebusque no solo indagar en los caminos de la vida, sinoprofundizar en sus finalidades, y aunar todos los aspec-tos del saber y de la experiencia.

FOUNDING PRINCIPLESNew Acropolis is based on three founding principles:

FRATERNITY

KNOWLEDGE

The love of truth and knowledge sets out from thelegitimate aspiration to develop one’s own discernmentand understanding of the world and oneself. Weunderstand philosophy as an axis that connects thedifferent facets and angles of human knowledge.

Philosophy can bring together the sources of the pastand the present in that global, broad and integratingvision, so that it becomes a real force for progress, whichseeks not only to explore the paths of life, but to godeeply into its ultimate ends, and tries to combine allaspects of knowledge and experience.

To encourage the love of wisdom through the com-parative study of philosophies, religions, sciences

and arts, in order to promote the knowledge of thehuman being, the laws of Nature and the Universe.

To promote an Ideal of international fraternity,

based on respect for human dignity, beyond racial,

sexual, cultural, religious, social or other differences.

OINA ORGANIZACIÓN INTERNACIONAL NUEVA ACRÓPOLISIONA INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION NEW ACROPOLIS

ESTRUCTURA Y FUNCIONAMIENTONueva Acrópolis es una organización internacional sin

fines de lucro. Está inscrita en el Registro Internacional de

Asociaciones del Reino de Bélgica (ver Moniteur n.48 del9 de marzo de 1990, página 4489).

Su estructura garantiza el respeto a la diversidad, laautonomía y la iniciativa de cada uno de sus integrantes.

Su funcionamiento permite que su acción se desarrollecon total independencia de intereses políticos, religio-sos o financieros.

Cada asociación miembro es responsable ante las auto-ridades de su propio país y acata la reglamentación inter-nacional en materia de asociaciones.

De acuerdo con sus estatutos, la Asamblea General dela Organización Internacional está integrada por unrepresentante de cada una de las asociaciones federadas.

De entre sus miembros más cualificados son elegidoslos integrantes de la Junta Directiva, que se renuevaperiódicamente y se encarga de coordinar y llevar a tér-mino los acuerdos que se establecen en cada reuniónanual de la Asamblea.

Desde 1992, la Presidencia de la OrganizaciónInternacional está a cargo de Delia Steinberg Guzmán.

Desde 2011 Jorge Alvarado Planas detenta laPresidencia Internacional Adjunta.

Actualmente Nueva Acrópolis está presente en más de50 países en los cinco continentes.

FINANCIACIÓN Nueva Acrópolis desarrolla una economía descentrali-

zada, con periódicas auditorías y basa sus ingresos eco-nómicos y sostenibilidad financiera en cuatro pilares:

- Cursos de formación y distribución de productos cul-turales, elaborados en nuestras sedes.

- Todos los socios aportan una cuota mensual, que lesda derecho a participar de todas sus actividades y teneracceso a la red internacional de centros culturales de laOINA.

- El apoyo del servicio voluntario, combinado con pocoy eficiente personal administrativo.

- El apoyo y patrocinio de empresas privadas y otrasinstituciones.

Estos ingresos se destinan exclusivamente a los proyec-tos, así como al mantenimiento de locales, suministros ypublicidad.

A nivel internacional, la OINA administra un presupues-to básico, destinado a cubrir los gastos administrativosde funcionamiento. Cada país aporta a este presupuestouna cuota proporcional y gestiona de manera autónomasus propios recursos, según la legislación vigente en cadapaís.

STRUCTURE AND OPERATION New Acropolis is an international non-profit organiza-

tion. It is registered in the International Register of

Associations of the Kingdom of Belgium (see MoniteurNo. 48 of 9 March 1990, page 4489).

Its structure guarantees respect for the diversity, auto-nomy and initiative of each of its member associations.

Its operational structure enables it to actindependently of all political, religious or financialinterests.

Each member association is answerable to the authori-ties of its own country and abides by the internationalregulations governing associations.

According to its Constitution, the General Assembly ofthe International Organization is made up of a represen-tative of each of the member Associations.

The members of the Board of Directors, which is rene-wed periodically and is responsible for coordinating andimplementing the resolutions passed at each annualmeeting of the Assembly, are elected from among themost qualified members of the Assembly.

Since 1992, the Presidency of the InternationalOrganization has been held by Delia Steinberg Guzmán.

Since 2011, the post of Deputy International Presidenthas been held by Georgios Alvarado Planas.

The organization is currently present in over 50 coun-tries on the five continents.

FUNDING New Acropolis operates a decentralized financial

system, with regular audits. Its income and financial sus-tainability are based on four pillars:

- Training courses and sales of cultural products madeat our centers.

- All members pay a monthly subscription, whichentitles them to take part in all the association’sactivities and have access to I.O.N.A.’s internationalnetwork of cultural centers.

- The support of volunteers, together with a very smallnumber of efficient administrative staff.

- Support and sponsorship from private companies andother institutions.

This income is allocated exclusively to projects, and tothe costs of premises, supplies and advertising.

On an international level, IONA manages a basic budgetto cover its administrative running costs. Each countrycontributes a proportional share to this budget andmanages its own resources autonomously, according tothe legislation in force in each country.

SCHOOL OF PHILOSOPHY IN THE CLASSICAL TRADITIONAt the heart of the activities of New Acropolis is our

School of Philosophy in the classical tradition, as a pathtowards knowledge and individual and collective achieve-ment.

We feel that we are continuing the work of those sageswho established Schools of Philosophy which, throughouthistory, have created new models of renewal and responsesto the challenges of each age.

Over two hundred Schools of Philosophy offer spacesfor reflection and action, to improve human beings and theworld.

The New Acropolis School of Philosophy offers aProgram of Studies which is common to all countries and istaught in successive levels. Following this course of studiesis a requirement for being a member of New Acropolis.

The program offers a selection of the key elements ofwisdom of East and West, as seeds for a renaissance and anew evolutionary transformation.

La Filosofía ha sido siempre una búsqueda de la verdad espiritual, un proceso de profundización en los conocimientossobre la naturaleza, sobre el ser humano y el universo. Cada acto de búsqueda es a la vez un ejercicio de libertad de con-ciencia que se enfrenta a la ignorancia, el desconcierto y los prejuicios que impiden la reflexión serena y profunda.

Para nosotros, la Filosofía es una actitud innata en los seres humanos. Nuestra tarea consiste en que esa actitud innatapueda plasmarse en actos que nos permitan desarrollar todo nuestro potencial y mejorar nuestro mundo. Philosophy has always been a search for spiritual truth, a process of going more deeply into the knowledge of nature, thehuman being and the universe. Every act of searching is at the same time an exercise of freedom of consciousness in oppo-sition to ignorance, confusion and the prejudices that prevent calm and deep reflection.

For us, Philosophy is an innate attitude in human beings. Our task is to enable that innate attitude to be expressed inactions that will allow us to develop our full potential and improve our world. We propose a practical philosophy that willbe useful for each individual and for society.

We do this not only through reading, studying and theoretical knowledge, but also by setting ourselves the goal of lear-ning to live well, with strength and efficiency, at every moment in our lives; taking advantage of the opportunities that ariseand learning something positive even from adversity.

This is what we mean by «Philosophy as a way of life».We are working to improve the world and the human being by means of Philosophy in the classical tradition: a philoso-

phical quest that offers answers to contemporary problems.

Eastern and Western Wisdom (two levels). A compendiumof subjects revolving around the universe, life and thehuman being, approached from the traditions of wisdom inEast and West, and their implications for the postulates ofcurrent science.

Symbology of Civilizations. Comparative study and analysisof the myths and symbols of religions and civilizations.

Applied Philosophy and Ethics. An overview of the majorschools of moral philosophy of East and West.

Sociopolitics. A philosophical approach to improving oursociety.

Oratory (two levels). Recovering the art of the spoken word,effective communication through oral expression.

History of Philosophy (four levels). An in-depth study of theproposals of philosophy throughout history, analyzing theircontext and influence.

History of Religions. A comparative study of the theologicalmessages of the religions which, in all ages, have raised theconsciousness of humanity.

Cosmogenesis. Study of the conceptions of the origin of theuniverse and its development.

Historia de las Religiones. Estudio comparado de los men-sajes teológicos de las religiones que, en todo tiempo, hanelevado la conciencia de la Humanidad.

La Escuela de Filosofía a la manera clásica de NuevaAcrópolis se inspira en la poderosa tradición platónica parapromover la Filosofía como modelo de vida, que se apoyaen el conocimiento y el desarrollo de las cualidades de cadaser humano.

La conmemoración del 2400 aniversario de la Fundaciónde la Academia platónica en Atenas ha convocado a milesde personas en los eventos organizados en los países queintegran la OINA.

The New Acropolis School of Philosophy in the classicaltradition takes its inspiration from the powerful Platonicheritage to promote Philosophy as a model for living, whichis based on the knowledge and development of the qualitiesof each human being.

The commemoration of the 2,400th anniversary of theFoundation of the Platonic Academy in Athens has broughtthousands of people together at the events organized in themember countries of the IONA.

ANNIVERSARY OF PLATO (ATHENS, GREECE)To commemorate the 24th centenary of the foundation ofPlato’s Academy and World Philosophy Day, New Acropolisin Athens, in collaboration with other internationalinstitutions and different personalities, organized asymposium under the title «Plato: the attraction of histhought and creation». A congress on “Platonic Education” took place in Madrid,organized by the UNESCO Club for the Intangible Heritageof Humanity and the Universal Ethical Network, with thecollaboration of the International Organization NewAcropolis in Spain and Victoria Cultural Space in Madrid.

En las conferencias se abordó ellegado de la Academia platónica y su influencia en el pen-samiento actual. Los círculos de lectura trataron de com-partir los mitos desarrollados en sus obras, a través de lainterpretación literaria, seguida de un debate con los asis-tentes y la representación del mito de la caverna a cargo delTeatro de Sombras.

2,400 YEARS OF THE FOUNDATION OF PLATO’S ACADEMY (SANTOS,BRAZIL)New Acropolis in Brazil organized several events tocommemorate the 2,400th anniversary of the foundation ofPlato’s Academy. Lectures, reading groups on Platonic mythsand debates on some fragments of his literary works, as wellas book exchanges, were some of the activities of theprogramme in which children played a special part. Thelegacy of the Platonic Academy and its influence on modernthought was discussed in the lectures. The reading groupsshared the myths found in his works, through literaryinterpretation, followed by a discussion with the audienceand a performance of the Myth of the Cave by the ShadowTheatre Group.

«THE DANGERS OF RACISM» (MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY)New Acropolis Uruguay organized a lecture entitled «TheDangers of Racism» at its main centre in Montevideo.Participating in the event were Mr. Tomás Olivera, arepresentative of the African Civil Association, and theDirector of New Acropolis in Uruguay, Prof. Victoria Calle.

The Honorary Commission of the Ministry of Education andCulture against racism, xenophobia and all types ofdiscrimination was also present.

«LOS PELIGROS DEL RACISMO» (MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY)Nueva Acrópolis Uruguay organizó en su sede central deMontevideo la conferencia titulada «Los peligros del racis-mo». PROYECTO CONÉCTATE CON LA PAZ (EL SALVADOR)Graduados acompañados del Director Nacional de OINASA,Director de CCUNA e instructores del curso.Se celebró la ceremonia de graduación de la segunda gene-ración de jóvenes del Proyecto Conéctate con la Paz, en elCírculo Universitario de Nueva Acrópolis en El Salvador.Después de 4 meses de aprendizaje en cultura de paz, lide-razgo y herramientas para difusión de mensajes positivos enredes sociales y medios audiovisuales, 51 jóvenes concluye-ron con éxito esta etapa. Han logrado, a la finalización delcurso, la elaboración de 18 vídeos y 4 programas de radio,que ya se encuentran en la red, difundiendo una nuevamanera de ver y hacer país en El Salvador.

CONNECT WITH PEACE PROJECT (EL SALVADOR)Graduates accompanied by the National Director of NewAcropolis El Salvador, the Director of CCUNA and course ins-tructors. The graduation ceremony for the second generationof young students on the “Connect with Peace” Project washeld at the University Circle of New Acropolis in El Salvador.51 young people successfully completed the four-monthprogramme that included learning about peace culture,leadership and tools for spreading positive messages throughsocial networks and audiovisual media. By the end of thecourse the students had managed to produce 18 videos and 4radio programmes that are already on the internet, spreadinga new way of seeing and building a country in El Salvador.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism ofthe Plurinational State of Bolivia, the AutonomousMunicipal Government of Sucre, the Royal and PontificalMajor University of Chuquisaca and several companies inthe private sector, the selection phase of the 21st NationalStudent Choir Festival was held in the cities of La Paz,Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. The aim of the festival is topromote the best possible training for the country’s childrenand young people through choral activities.

So, my heartfeltthanks, New Acropolis».The New Acropolis Music Competition for Schoolchildren isthe most important musical educational activity in Peru.More than 25,000 schoolchildren from ten cities take parteach year. The aim of this important competition is toenrich the education of children and young people from ahuman point of view, by helping them to develop feelings,skills and values through the practice of music. The competition has also fostered the development ofmore than 600 music workshops in Peruvian schools and, inthe course of these 30 years, has benefited over 500,000schoolchildren. Mumbai invitó a Kaluram Ji Bamaniya para disfrutar de unavelada con la mística de los poetas Bhakti. Kaluram Ji dirigeel Bairaag Kabir Lok-Bha jan Mandal y nació en una familia decantantes que durante varias generaciones han cantado losversos de Kabir, Gorakhnath y Meeras. Para él, cantar esmucho más que una profesión; su música y las palabras delos poetas se han convertido en una forma de vida, y suinmersión en el espíritu de las palabras se refleja claramen-te en sus hermosas versiones. Esta popular celebración de latradición Bhakti tuvo muy buena acogida por parte de laaudiencia que asistió.

Mumbai invited Kaluram Ji Bamaniya to enjoy an evening ofthe mysticism of the Bhakti poets. Kaluram Ji directs theBairaag Kabir Lok-Bhajan Mandal and was born into a familyof singers who have been singing the verses of Kabir,Gorakhnath and Meeras for generations. For Kaluram Ji,singing is much more than a profession, his music and thewords of poets have become his way of life. His immersionin the spirit of the words is clearly reflected in the beautifulway he recites them. This popular celebration of the Bhaktitradition was warmly received by the audience.

La obra «MAX», producida con la colaboración del teatro«Bamahut» de Nueva Acrópolis Israel, se llevó a cabo estemes de septiembre en el festival de teatro más grande deIsrael. El evento es anual y tiene lugar en la ciudad de Acre(Akko).

La obra teatral se inspiró en el libro Moassy el perro, escri-to por el profesor Livraga, y algunos de los actores sonmiembros de Nueva Acrópolis.

THEATRE FESTIVAL IN ISRAELThe play «MAX», produced in collaboration with the

«Bamahut» theatre of New Acropolis Israel, was performedlast September at the biggest theatre festival in Israel. Theevent takes place annually in the city of Acre (Akko).

AYUDA HUMANITARIA A 800 FAMILIAS (PUNO, PERÚ)Los voluntarios de Nueva Acrópolis Perú llevaron ayuda alos habitantes del distrito de Santa Rosa-Masocruz, en Puno,ubicado a 4050 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Como cadaaño, Nueva Acrópolis realiza esta campaña «Salvémoslos delfrío» para apoyar a las personas que residen en las zonas máspobres del Perú y que son afectados por las heladas delcrudo invierno, que ha ocasionado fuertes enfermedadespulmonares, la destrucción de más de un centenar de vivien-das y la muerte de miles de animales de la zona.

HUMANITARIAN AID FOR 800 FAMILIES (PUNO, PERU)The volunteers of New Acropolis Peru brought aid to thosewho live in the Santa Rosa District – Masocruz, in Punowhich is located 4,050 meters above sea level. Every year,New Acropolis carries out this campaign «Let’s Save Themfrom the Cold» to help the people who live in the poorestareas of Peru and are affected by the freezing temperaturesof the harsh winter, which has caused serious lung diseases,the destruction of more than 100 homes and the death ofthousands of animals in the area.

VOLUNTEERING DURING THE FLOODS (HUNGARY)New Acropolis volunteers participated together with

other teams in Gyor and Budapest on the days when mosthelp was needed in the floods that devastated extensiveareas of the country. 50 volunteers in total participated inbuilding embankments to reinforce flood defenses and inthe necessary evacuation of several cities and towns.

New Acropolis Slovakia participated in the “NationalVolunteering Days” which were promoted by severalnon-profit organizations of the country and with thecooperation of different municipalities. During these days,New Acropolis organized the clean-up of different publicareas in Bratislava and Košice, an educational program fororphans, as well as craft workshops where gifts were madefor the children. VOLUNTEER PARTNERS (BOLOGNA, ITALY)Ninth edition of «Volunteer Partners - a Celebration of of

Volunteering and Partnership» promoted by theVolunteering Services Centre of the Province of Bologna.The event is attended every year by thousands of peoplewho want to learn about the projects and action plans ofparticipating organizations. The initiative was a remarkablesuccess, with about 1500 local organizations taking part.New Acropolis Bologna participated in the event for thefourth consecutive year with all its proposals. The NewAcropolis stand offered an exhibition entitled «Eco-Help forour Planet».

TEATRO PARA LOS NIÑOS DEL ORFANATO DE DOGANOVO (BULGARIA)Nueva Acrópolis visitó nuevamente el orfanato de

Doganovo. En esta ocasión, los voluntarios que mensual-mente colaboran con esta institución prepararon un tallerde teatro basado en populares cuentos de hadas. Al princi-pio –algo que entusiasma a los niños–, todo el mundo sepone en marcha en un calentamiento previo con el ensayodel papel que a cada uno le toca. THEATRE FOR CHILDREN AT THE DOGANOVO ORPHANAGE (BULGARIA)New Acropolis once again visited the orphanage at

Doganovo. On this occasion the volunteers, who cooperatewith this institution on a monthly basis, prepared a theatreworkshop based on popular fairytales. At the start, thechildren are enthused with a warming up exercise wherethey rehearse their parts. Afterwards, teams of directorsand children-actors are formed, and before acting eachteam does its own rehearsal.

BEE SANCTUARY IN LONDON

As part of the Open Garden Squares Weekend organizedacross London, New Acropolis opened its Bee Sanctuary tothe public. Volunteers welcomed around 400 visitors,providing information about bees and bee-friendly plants.The garden was designed by a team of landscape architectsstudying at the New Acropolis, with the idea of workingwith nature, integrating cultivated plants with attractive andnaturally growing weeds.

Como parte del Fin de Semana de los Jardines Abiertosorganizado en Londres, NA abrió su reserva de abejas alpúblico. Los voluntarios atendieron a cerca de 400 visitan-tes, proporcionando información sobre abejas y plantas«amigas de las abejas». El jardín fue diseñado por un equipode arquitectos paisajistas estudiantes de Nueva Acrópolis,con la idea de trabajar con la naturaleza, integrando plantascultivadas con hierbas silvestres atractivas y autóctonas.

Durante el año 2013 se dieron muy buenas relaciones entre nuestra organización y otras entidades con objetivos afines ala OINA. Asimismo, la OINA participó en eventos internacionales que le permitieron conocer temas de interés para sus finesy exponer sus puntos de vista.

In 2013 there were very good relations between our organization and other associations with similar objectives to those ofthe IONA. The IONA also participated in international events that enabled it to find out about topics of interest for its aimsand to present its points of view.

PARTICIPACIÓN EN LA ASAMBLEA DE LA OEA

En junio de 2013 la OINA fue invitada como organizaciónde la sociedad civil a participar en la XLIII Asamblea Generalde la Organización de Estados Americanos, realizada enAntigua Guatemala. Nos representaron Rolando Aguirre, dela Secretaría Internacional de Relaciones Institucionales dela OINA y Patricia Muñoz, directora nacional de Guatemala.Durante la Asamblea General se discutieron temas de sumaimportancia para la región, entre los cuales se encontraba lapolítica frente al problema de las drogas en las Américas.

PARTICIPATION IN THE ASSEMBLY OF THE OAS

In June 2013 the IONA was invited as a civil societyorganization to take part in the 43rd General Assembly ofthe Organization of American States held in AntiguaGuatemala. We were represented by Rolando Aguirre, fromIONA’s International Department of Institutional Relations,and Patricia Muñoz, national director of New AcropolisGuatemala. During the General Assembly matters of greatimportance for the region were discussed, including thepolicy towards the drugs problem in the Americas.

LA OINA Y CLUB UNESCO HERITAGE

En el marco del Convenio Interinstitucional entre la OINAy Club UNESCO Heritage para la Protección del PatrimonioIntangible de las Culturas Antiguas, se realizó un encuentroen la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia, para implantar laCátedra de Coaching & Management para entidades públi-cas y privadas, así como un Magíster en Derechos Humanospara la aplicación de los Objetivos del Milenio.

IONA AND UNESCO CLUB HERITAGE

In the framework of the Interinstitutional Agreementbetween the IONA and UNESCO Club Heritage for theProtection of the Intangible Heritage of Ancient Cultures, ameeting was held in the city of Medellín, Colombia, to esta-blish a Chair of Coaching & Management for public andprivate entities, as well as a Masters in Human Rights for theimplementation of the Millennium Objectives.

Finalmente, cabe destacar que este año la OINA participóen una encuesta a organizaciones de la sociedad civil porparte de la UNESCO y de la Organización de EstadosAmericanos (OEA) sobre educación en ciudadanía global.También se participó en la encuesta a las Organizaciones dela Sociedad Civil y Actores Sociales registrados en la OEAsobre la «Visión Estratégica de la OEA». En la primera, hemoscompartido nuestra metodología para la formación de valo-res ciudadanos a nivel global y las propuestas de mejora a laeducación que plantea Nueva Acrópolis.

IONA, UNESCO AND OAS

Finally, it is noteworthy that this year the IONA took partin a survey of civil society organizations carried out byUNESCO and the Organization of American States (OAS) oneducation in global citizenship. A survey was also carriedout on Civil Society Organizations and Social Actorsregistered with the OAS on the "Strategic Vision of theOAS". In the first survey, we shared our methodology foreducation in citizenship values on a global level and theproposals for improving education put forward by NewAcropolis.

La Asamblea General de la OINA, en su reunión anual de2013, celebrada el día 9 de abril en la ciudad de Tel Aviv(Israel) acordó la siguiente

DECLARACIÓN GENERAL

- Trabajar para recuperar los valores éticos que conformanlos pilares de la convivencia entre los seres humanos, con elfin de fomentar la conciencia de la «gran familia que es lahumanidad», y para que esta reflexión no sea una elucubra-ción sin sentido práctico, la OINA deberá fomentar en todassus actividades un rescate de los valores permanentes y delas virtudes humanas.

- Recordar a todos los países asociados y federados a laOINA que se hace necesario un «recambio ecológico» quedenuncie la explotación irracional de los recursos naturalesdel planeta y alerte sobre la industrialización descontrolada,que ha provocado el calentamiento global de la Tierra conlas consecuencias nefastas que ello provoca.

- Tener en cuenta que el siglo XXI será el siglo de las migra-ciones globales en busca de nuevos horizontes de subsis-tencia, generando, como consecuencia, un desarraigo socialy familiar, para lo cual Nueva Acrópolis debe trabajar demanera efectiva en todos los países en donde desarrollaactividades, con el fin de paliar la «deshumanización de lasociedad». Recomienda, por tanto, que se intensifiquen losprogramas internacionales encaminados a la protección delmedio ambiente, promoviendo la colaboración con otrasinstituciones.

The General Assembly of the IONA, at its annual meetingof 2013, held on 9 April in the city of Tel Aviv (Israel)resolved as follows:

GENERAL DECLARATION

- To work to recover the ethical values that constitute thepillars of harmonious coexistence between human beings, inorder to promote an awareness of the “great human family”.In order for this reflection to be more than a theoreticalconstruct without any practical application, the IONAshould promote a recovery of lasting values and humanvirtues in all its activities.

- To remind all the member and federated countries of theIONA that an “ecological sea change” is necessary that willdenounce the irrational exploitation of the natural resourcesof the planet and alert people to the uncontrolled industria-lization that has resulted in the global warming of the Earth,with the disastrous consequences that this is producing.

- To bear in mind that the 21st century will be the centuryof global migrations in search of new horizons ofsubsistence, resulting in the uprooting of societies andfamilies. Accordingly, New Acropolis should workeffectively in all the countries where it carries on activitiesto mitigate the “dehumanisation of society”. It thereforerecommends intensifying the international programs aimedat the protection of the environment, promotingcollaboration with other institutions.

- Urge realizar propuestas que generen soluciones alterna-tivas, que, además, coincidan con las recomendadas por losdiversos Organismos Internacionales con el fin de generarsinergias. La OINA vuelve a poner, por tanto, de manifiestola perentoria necesidad de llevar a cabo programas deacción y actividades que fomenten la fraternidad y la tole-rancia, el conocimiento y el desarrollo integral de los sereshumanos.

- En vista del éxito obtenido durante estos últimos añosen la celebración del Día Mundial de la Filosofía, recomien-da seguir manteniendo las actividades relacionadas condicho evento promocionado por la UNESCO, cuando secumple el décimo aniversario. Esta Jornada se realiza, cadaaño, en el mes de noviembre, destacando la importanciaque tiene la Filosofía en nuestra vida cotidiana y la necesi-dad de realizar una reflexión constructiva sobre el mundo ylos problemas que afectan a la Humanidad. Recordar quedentro de la OINA se agrupan más de 50 países que reco-gen manifestaciones filosóficas y vitales provenientes deculturas, costumbres y lenguas diferentes, dando a la cele-bración del Día Mundial de la Filosofía un valor añadido,puesto que en cada una de las asociaciones locales, regio-nales y nacionales que conforman la OINA se desarrollanimportantes actividades.

- Continuar promoviendo el gusto por la lectura, especial-mente entre los jóvenes.

- It is urgent to draw up proposals to generate alternativesolutions, that will also coincide with those recommendedby the different International Organizations in order togenerate synergies. The IONA therefore once againhighlights the urgent need to implement programs of actionand activities to promote fraternity and tolerance,knowledge and an all-round development of human beings.

- In view of the success achieved over the last few years inthe celebration of World Philosophy Day, it recommendscontinuing to hold the activities relating to that eventpromoted by UNESCO, on the occasion of its tenthanniversary. This Day is held every year in the month ofNovember, to highlight the importance that philosophy hasin our daily lives and the need to reflect constructively onthe world and the problems affecting humanity. To recallthat in the IONA there are more than 50 countries, whichcontain philosophical and living expressions of differentcultures, customs and languages, giving an added value toWorld Philosophy Day, since in each of the local, regionaland national associations that make up the IONA,important activities are carried out.

- To continue promoting an interest in reading, especiallyamong the young.
