SO LET THE STORY BEGIN.After reading The Myth of Lost Atlantis, we discussed about it and each pupil drew a picture taken from the story which has made the strongest impression on them.
In the middle of the sea an island rose and in the centre of this island overtopped a mountain.
There lived Evenus, his wife Lefkippi and their daughter, Kleto.
Poseidon turned himself into human and set off to observe these people closer in order to understand the secret of their happiness.
Poseidon fell for their daughter Kleto and asked to take her as his wife. The sea animals came along to sing and wish all the best to the happy couple.
He promised to turn the island into a paradise. He made three rows of sea and three rows of land and on top of them he created a forest. The animals proliferated, the soil became so fertile that grass, vegetables and therapeutic herbs were everywhere.
Poseidon showed the islands inhabitants how to built a palace. Within its golden walls, they made a temple in honour of the God, which was decorated with gardens and they also built an aquaduct and a circus.
Kleto gave birth to five children. The first born was named Atlandas and at the age of twenty he became a king and the island itself took its name after him: Atlantida (Atlantis)
Poseidon dictated laws, which were engraved on a column made of stone inside the temple. The most important of all said that nobody was allowed to draw a weapon against other people or else a horrible curse would fall on him.
So they all lived together in peace
Atlantis grew richer. Its port was the largest and the most important trading place. The people became wealthier and created more infrastructure works. Poseidon was so proud of them that he decided to withdraw in his own kingdom.
Years went by and the people of Atlantis changed.
Their god-like side started to fade away. Greediness, ambition and love for power emerged. The streets were dangerous and lies along with deception dominated.
Once God Zeus took a good look of Atlantis. He got so angry with what he had seen that he shouted with a thunderous voice. Poseidon woke up and looked at his city. It was only then that he burst into tears.
He knew he had to keep his curse. He rose his trident and an enormous wave came and covered the island. At the same time rain and ashes kept falling from the sky.
Atlantis was gone! In only one day!
Then.nothing but silence!!!
The inhabitants lived underwater. They didn't fight any more but they couldnt enjoy the wealth and the joys of life. Eventually they became one with the rest of the sea creatures.
