ΧΑΙΡΕΤΙΣΜΟΣ Αγαπητοί προσκεκλημένοι, σας καλωσορίζω στο 5 ο φεστιβάλ χορού, κίνησης και παραστατικών τεχνών No_Body/Unplugged, που αποτελεί τη μοναδική παγκύπρια πλατφόρμα Σύγχρονου Χορού & Παραστατικών Τεχνών με έδρα τη Λευκωσία. Το Dance Gate Lefkosia Cyprus, ιδρυτκό μέλος της ΣΤΕΓΗΣ ΧΟΡΟΥ ΛΕΥΚΩΣΙΑΣ, σας καλωσορίζει στο νέο χώρο της Στέγης στην Αγορά του Αγίου Αντρέα, ένα έργο που μετά από χρόνια προσπάθειας απ όλους μαζί, και ιδιαίτερα απ το Dance Gate, γίνεται τώρα μια πραγματικότητα και που εςςδώ πραγματοποιούμε το φετινό φεστιβάλ μας. Ανακαινίστηκε με δαπάνες των Πολιτιστικών Υπηρεσιών/Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και του Δήμου Λευκωσίας. Σημαντική διαφορά είναι ότι φέτος το όλο φεστιβάλ μας τελείται σε μια UNPLUGGED εκδοχή. Σε καιρούς κρίσης το θεωρήσαμε μια ευκαιρία να συμβαδίσουμε με μια πιο λιτή προσέγγιση στις τέχνες. Έτσι η παρουσίαση και δημιουργία έργου προτείνουμε να γίνει σε μια μορφή όπως η λέξη Unplugged υποδηλώνει. Φέτος συμμετέχουν 9 ομάδες στις παραστάσεις και 2 ομάδες στις παράλληλες εκδηλώσεις αριθμώντας συνολικά 35 συνεργαζόμενους καλλιτέχνες από όλες τις τέχνες. Επίσης, στα πλαίσια της συνεργασίας του Dance Gate με το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα Modul-Dance, φιλοξενούμε τον Arno Schuitemaker από Ολλανδία και στις Παράλληλες Εκδηλώσεις παρουσιάζουμε ένα πρόγραμμα μικρών ταινιών Χορού με τίτλο ‘’Associcio NU2’S’’ που επιμελήτρια είναι η Nuria Font. Επίσης σε συνεργασία με την Πρεσβεία της Βραζιλίας φιλοξενούμε στις παραστάσεις/Παράλληλες εκδηλώσεις τον χορογράφο Eduardo Fukushima. Κλείνοντας, να ευχηθώ κάθε επιτυχία στους συμμετέχοντες καλλιτέχνες και να τους ευχαριστήσω θερμά για τη συμμετοχή τους. As one of the founding members of the Lefkosia Dancehouse, Dance Gate Lefkosia Cyprus is delighted to stage the 5 th No_Body/Unplugged Festival at the premises of the Lefkosia Dancehouse, its very own home. A recently renovated building, the AGORA of Ayios Andreas, is a new landmark for Culture and the Arts, a joint endeavour realised by the dance community of Nicosia, in particular Dance Gate Lefkosia. Our dream has come true, at last, as a result of the financial support of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture in collaboration with the Municipality of Nicosia. Due to the critical economic times we face, the 5 th No_Body Festival moves towards an UNPLUGGED version, its organization and artists making art by way of minimal means, as is the way of contemporary art today. This year 24 applications from Cyprus Artists, strongly indicate the festival is gaining momentum, and people are queuing for it. Fortunately, in spite of the very limited production budget, we are able to host 7 of these aspiring groups, for the simple reason that we can stage the festival in our own House. Thanks to our partners, through the EU funded Modul-Dance project, and our collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil, we are presenting in total 9 groups from Cyprus and abroad for the main festival on the 2 nd and 3 rd November, with 2 more groups presenting at the Parallel Events on the 4 th and 5 th November. A dance workshop is offered in the morning with Eduardo Fukushima, followed in the evening by screenings of dance films, curated by Nuria Font, in collaboration with Mercat De Les Flors, Barcelona, via the EU programme Modul-Dance. TWO MEN. CONCENTRATED, PLAYFUL, AND FULL OF PHYSICAL INTENSITY. ALMOST EFFORTLESSLY THEY SHIFT FROM THE ORDINARY TO THE EXTRAORDINARY, SEEKING AND EXPLORING CONTACT AND INTERFACES, PROPOSING AN IMPLICIT QUESTION TO THEIR AUDIENCE: HOW DO I RELATE TO THE OTHER?

ABOUT ARNOARNO SCHUITEMAKER WAS BORN IN 1976 IN THE NETHERLANDS. AFTER OBTAINING HIS MASTER’S DEGREE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY DELFT IN 2002, ARNO DECIDED TO CHANGE COURSE AND TO STUDY CONTEMPORARY DANCE. SINCE HIS GRADUATION IN 2007, HE HAS CREATED A WIDE VARIETY OF THEATRE AND SITE-SPECIFIC PERFORMANCES, INCLUDING: ZONE (2008), EXIT (2009), AND TIDE (2011). ENGAGED BY PHILOSOPHICAL AND EXISTENTIAL QUESTIONS HIS WORK IS CHARACTERIZED BY UNCOMMON APPROACHES TO SUBJECT MATTERS, CREATING PERFORMANCES WHERE THE SENSORY EXPERIENCE IS GIVEN PRIORITY. HE IS SELECTED AS AEROWAVES PRIORITY COMPANY 2013 AND AS MODUL-DANCE ARTIST 2013-2014 BY THE EUROPEAN DANCEHOUSE NETWORK.

CONCEPTA GREAT WEARINESS. IN TIME. IN THE AIR. FROM THE TIREDNESS COMES MOVEMENT, BODY LANGUAGE, HARNESSING

EXHAUSTION AS A POWER FROM WHICH TO MOVE. THE WORK EXPLORES THE BUILDING OF GESTURE AND INTENTION WITHIN SPECIFIC QUALITIES OF MOVEMENT, REACHING A BODY STATE THAT BOTH DEVELOPS AND EXISTS IN REAL TIME. IT’S FROM THE EXISTENTIAL TIREDNESS AND THE MOVEMENT THAT ARRIVE AT THIS QUESTION AND DEVELOPING IT IN A BODY LANGUAGE WITHOUT PRETENCES OF GETTING AN ANSWER. THE CHOREOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH FOR THIS PROJECT WAS FUNDED AS PART OF ITS PROGRAM OF DANCE IN 2009/10 BY RUMUS ITAÚ CULTURAL SAO PAULO/ BRAZIL.

THEY ARE NOT BALLET, THEY ARE NOT OF ANY CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE, THEY ARE NOT ORIENTAL DANCE, THEY ARE NOT BRAZILIAN DANCE, THEY ARE DANCES WITHOUT SPECIFIC ROOTS BUT AT THE SAME TIME WITH ALL TOGETHER WITH ORIGIN INSIDE OF A DANCER WHO IS ATTEMPTING TO DEAL WITH THE MOMENT. SPEECHES, YELL, ARIDITY AND SOFTNESS TRANSFORMED IN TWO SHORT DANCES.

ABOUT THE ARTISTEDUARDO FUKUSHIMA ([email protected]) WAS BORN IN 1984. SINCE 2004, HE HAS WORKED AS A CHOREOGRAPHER, DANCER, PERFORMER AND TEACHER IN SAO PAULO, BRAZIL. HE GRADUATED FROM THE PONTICIFICIA CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF SAO PAULO WHERE HE OBTAINED A DEGREE IN “COMMUNICATION AND BODY ARTS”. HE CREATED THE SOLOS: “EXIT” (2004), “CORNER” (2007), “BETWEEN CONTENTIONS” (2008), WHICH WAS AWARDED THE PRIZE OF FUNARTE KLAUS VIANNA OF SAO PAULO, AND “HOW TO OVERCOME THE GREAT TIREDNESS?” (2010), WHICH WAS AWARDED THE “RUMOS DANÇA ITAÚ CULTURAL 2009/2010” PRIZE IN BRAZIL. IN 2012 AND 2013 HE WAS SELECTED AS PROTÉGÉ IN ROLEX MENTOR AND PROTÉGÉ ARTS INITIATIVE AND MOVED TO TAIWAN TO WORK WITH LIN HWAI-MIN, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF CLOUD GATE DANCE THEATRE OF TAIWAN.
