    Bang of masturbation!

This label Id like to place on for the year 2011.

Reaching the end of a rotten even for society, creative year for us.

    Many negative & positive events.

For the creative team of UrbanStyleMag, the 2011 was the year

of recognition. After 3 years + 1 year work off the record, this year

we received a large number of support from the world beyond the

boundaries of our country. The USM was an official media sponsor

for Greece on three major events abroad. The Creamfields Andalucia

(Spain), Amsterdam Dance Event (Holland) and the Time Warp festival

    (Germany).

Many nice things are in the realm of our mind to be implemented with

    your own moral assistance.

The UrbanStyleMedia is one of them ... the UrbanStyleMag joins

creative forces with the production team of digaPictures audiovisual

productions to implement a web tv project alternative program, which

    will soon see online.

I would like to wish a New Year full of health, positive spirit and cre-

    ation in all sectors.

Remember to give away smiling because the smile returns back ;)

tell us a little about your musical development and how you got into music.

I come from a pretty traditional Cuban household where there was music playing 24 hours a day. But surprisingly I never got into the salsa that my parents were into and I fell in love with Miami Bass and electro in the 80s. Also loved New Wave synth popso natu-rally when I heard House and Techno in the late 80s/ early 90s I was hooked. I started buying records in 92, got my first turntable in 93 and was hooked after that. Now I see myself getting a lot of influence from music when I started, but somehow finding a way to update it and make it fresh for today.

Where does the name Maceo Plex come from?

Believe it or notI didnt really get it from Maceo Parker. My fian-ce had a cat named Maceo, and I had already used the name Plex for a project so I put the two together and it worked perfectly. Until shortly before people asked me if I got it from the famous funk jazz musician Maceo Parker.

Is Maceo Plex the house-funk alter ego of Maetrik?

I dont consider them alter egos really. They are both me and rep-resent my mood. At the moment Ive been really happy and feeling a lot of love so its been pouring into my music. Im also getting older so Ive been feeling a need to slow down and just groove.

tell us a few things about your new achievement, ellum Audio

Very exciting that I finally got around to getting it going. I have a very clear vision of the future of house, disco, and techno so Ellum is a good platform to seek out that music and present it to the world. We just got started and currently Christine (my manager) and I run it. But weve also enlisted the help of our friend Danny Daze whos a huge music hustler. Plus we have a really great label Manager that also runs Visionquest, CR, and Hot Creations. So the team is assembled and we plan to really make some great things happen in 2012! I started it off by doing 001, and 002 is by the legendary Dj Gregory under the name Bazar. Amazing stuff planned.

What excites you about electronic music at the moment?

Experimentation within DEEP HOUSE MUSIC. Theres been ex-perimentation within techno, electronica, and electro for yearsbut Deep House became a bit stagnant after the huge Mannheim House explosion.. Now there are so many artists bringing new ways of creating new and soulful house music. Its exciting for sure.

Your top 5 songs of all time

Hard question but at the moment my favorite 5 that come to mind are:

Back to Basics seems to be the start of everything. You were young and electronic music was just something new and different for the most peo-ple. What were your dreams when you started? After 20 years, do you think that you have achieved your goals? Its strange because I had no dream about being in house music that long. When I started there were no DJ s with careers in the UK. There were only mobile DJs, who were guys traveling around with a sound and light set up and playing pop music in pubs or radio DJs who are really just presenters. I was getting 30 per show. It was just pocket money while I was at college. I thought it was something fun to do while it lasted for a couple of years. I think back to basics getting global recognition propelled me into the possibil-ity that I could do this for longer.

As a listener and fan of yours, I will say that you are a key structure for electronic music in england. You gave shape to music and were one from the first to book names like daft Punk, danny tenaglia, derrick Carter, Josh Wink. How do you feel about that?Well thank you. I do feel that I have helped shaped Leeds as a clubbing city with a strong electronic music fan base but I was just part of the basics team. The guys you mention certainly inspired many young people to get into the music and we got them at a great time, just at the point they were going off. I hope 2020Vison has inspired people all over the world to make great music using their own unique creativity.

tell us about the craziest memory you have from Back to Basics. something that you remember even today, 20 years later.Any crazy story about Basics normally involves Dave Beer, the promoter. He is the party guy. If we were the Rolling Stones I would be Charlie Watts, qui-etly playing drums at the back and holding it down and Dave would be Keith Richards. One time when I was playing he climbed up on my decks and did a stripteae in front of the crowd. They were fortunate as they got the backside, I wasnt so lucky.

What did you think when you started the 2020Vision and which was the reason you named it like that?We were making our own music in a farmhouse south of Leeds. We would make live dub mixes recorded onto DAT. One time we were really stoned and made a really long one, we stopped the DAT at exactly 20 mins 20 seconds. DJ Huggy (my partner) shouted out 2020 Vision man!. I realized that the name was too good for one track and it should be the name of the label. The track never came out as it was too long. I liked the name as it means perfect sight. I liked two ideas that the name suggested for a label; searching for perfection in music and having a perfect vision of what music can be.

Another question I wanted to ask you is how the english underground sound was able to maintain the underground element all these years, after the pass of the 90s rave? A very good question. The English media is very powerful, both in national newspapers and also in cultural publications like music. In 2000 the music press decided to kill off dance music. The super clubs had got really cheesy and like big corporations so some of it was very justified. The combination of the two forced back to basics to go further underground and out of the media. We had no empire to try to keep hold of. Some dance dinosaurs be-came extinct and this created space for smaller, more agile organisations to emerge. Secret Sundaze in London single handedly kick started the scene again in the south from 2001. London returned to illegal warehouse parties in the East End, the perfect location for house music. Other countries such as Germany, Greece, Romania, Spain and Italy also witnessed new emer-gent electronic music scenes. It can take just one good festival such as Sync in Athens to inspire people. Germany has been the main driving force behind electronic music for over ten years now. I think the way they do it had an impact on the UK scene. House music is best in its natural environment of warehouse spaces and not in bright glitzy nightclubs. It will never be good music for commercial radio stations.

As a respectful dj-Producer and label owner, what would you say to the young people who are trying to deal with electronic music in a more pro-fessional level?Well I am maybe not the best person to ask as for many years I didnt care about this at all. I never even worked out how much money other DJs were getting. I never saw it is a career. Sometimes it depresses me that many young artists are all about the money. My first advice would be that this shouldnt be your main goal. To succeed you need to be chasing musical dreams not dollars. You also need to realize that there is not much money in electronic music apart from at the very top and it is very hard to climb that mountain. My best advice would be to surround yourself with good people. Make the music first then if it is going well get a good label, agent and press team. Dont go for the most flashy, choice the ones you like and trust.

to conclude, which are your plans for the future?

    Hello steve.

tell us about your involvement with music how did you start it and when you came for the first time in contact with electronic music?I started at 16 I was buying disks from the local shops in Thessaloniki. I listened as young the well known tracks played on the radio, because at that time and age, access to electronic music was more difficult. But over time by learning and searching, I loved the House music in all its forms.

Recently you moved to London how do you feel there?I feel very good about this decision I made since I have been given op-portunities to meet key people in the area. Much of the music industry are here, so is the place to be for any artist. The scene is so awesome and big opportunities are given.

do you think that an artist abroad has more opportunities to pro-mote his work or is clearly a factor about gigs that makes someone to leave his country? As I have said is the place for an artist to promote his work. If someone manages to stand out in this city, definitely his international career takes off. The shops are numerous, the labels are constantly having la-bel nights, so there is direct access to a personal meet, which is much easier than the dozens of anonymous emails remotely.

two months ago it was the release of your first solo album called Higher state Impressions from urban torque in there we find tracks with a deep element and an emotional nature associated with atmospheric pads. From where does all this inspiration come?In fact on October 24 and is available at all digital stores. The reviews are very good so far and this leaves me very satisfied, although it is still early. In this job I tried to express myself as best I could through the composition, for this reason and the versatility of sound. There is one particular factor that affects me. I draw my inspiration from everyday life and my life, so I always try my sound to be so understandable but also special. I like my music to be described with words and create in the mind of the listener images. I think that makes a work special.

As you began to building a track do you know from the start how will it be or just have an idea to analyze - decode as the final result?Hardly ever, when I am starting a job I do not have a specific purpose. Everything starts with a simple idea that is evolving and thats the beauty of my work. The predictability makes me fatigue.

In the end I would like to ask you about your future plans and what your listeners expect from you and your future works. There are no plans at this time. The only sure thing is a lot of music in the coming months, including collaborations with Luke Fair and Elias Tzikas and a mini homecoming for a few nights in the clubs of the city and around...I look forward!

I am George Valantis Arnissa grew up in Edessa, where I live now permanently.

My first contact with photography was in my 14 years, when I got a gift, a camera. In the top photo for me was a click and a memory, in my 23 years through some seminars taught by Achilles Savvopoulos, i met the ab-stract side of photography and now the picture was a break from reality and a way of expressing emotions. Before 3 months I opened my proffesional phto studio in Arnissa where im photographing professionally with my own photo view.

    23 ; ... video games atari ( ; )... ufo 2012... , *Urbanismou. O . Neil Alden Armstrong.

A few words about the cover? I am fun of futuristic films and theories of space ... as well as type of video games like atari (invalid?) ... And since many called for the arrival of enemy ufo in 2012 ... I wanted to bring to the light images with space character, which has made application of *Urbanismou. The shown guy are of unknown origin. Wearing the spacesuit of Neil Alden Armstrong. Thats all

[ INFO ]Saturday, December 10 at 20.00Region. S-hertogenbosch, the NetherlandsCold and enthusiasm for one of the biggest musical events in Europe... The Time Warp festival. UrbanStyleMag had the honor and the pleasure us a media sponsor of this years event and of course was there to cover the festival. We arrived with a big smile in the facilities of Brabanthallen (An area of capacity 18,000 people ...) feeling strongly the bass coming from the bus, we walked towards to the entrance. Holding in our hands the festivals program did a tour in the halls for the first taste. Lights & full of music! Hour by hour the room began to fill, and people really lived musical mo-ments! Big names in the electronic scene were in the line up of Time Warp Holland giving each one his own musical recipe. The production of the festival was really high as is well known the Time Warp. Truly a audiovi-sual experience. Some names that kept strongly in our ears were Monika Kruse, Underworld, Extrawelt, Richie Hawting who gave a unique show in the early morning hours, Sven Vath, Paul Ritch, Loco Dice, Marco Carola and of course the rest of the Line up, which was really big!Next meeting 3.3.2012 in Mannheim, Germany!

For Time Warp we talked with the chief marketing officer of the organiza-tion (Cosmopop) Robin Ebinger, an interview which will be released at UrbanStyleMedia. A taste of her Time Warp experience gave us the music producer & owner of Terminal M records Monika Kruse.

We would like to thank Susanne Battke the responsible of international communication of Cosmopop for a warm welcome and assistance.

The hospitality edited by Bed & Breakfast Den Bosch which want to thank for the services.
