REPORT OF THE REFRESHER COURSE HELD ON 19TH

AND 20TH

NOVEMBER

2016 ORGANIZED BY SIGMA INSTITUTE OF PHARMACY, BARODA AND

SPONSERED BY

GUJARAT STATE PHARMACY COUNCIL

It was a moment of sheer pride and elude that Sigma Institute of Pharmacy was selected by

Gujarat State Pharmacy Council for conducting Sixth Refresher Course for Registered

Pharmacists.

The program started on 19th

Sept 2016 at 9.30 am by prayer offered by student and faculty

members.Then the two days refresher program was officially inaugurated with lightening of

lamp by the dignitaries on the dais. Guests for the program were welcomed by Dr U. M.

Upadhyay, Principal and commencement of 6th

refresher course officially pronounced.In the

beginning, Dr. U. M. Upadhyay, Principal, Sigma Institute of Pharmacy narrated the growth of

Sigma Group and Sigma Pharmacy including NBA Accreditation, Highest GPAT Qualifiers in

Gujarat State and so on. He made a mention that Gujarat State Pharmacy Council has

continuously shown trust on Sigma Institute of Pharmacy to organize Refresher Course for

Registered Pharmacist for the 6th time in Baroda District.

Shri. Harsh Shah, Managing Trustee and Ms. Shreya Shah, Academic Director, welcomed

all guests on behalf of Sigma Group of Institute and wished for smooth conduction of program.

Guest of Honor, Swami Nikhileswaranandji, Secretary, Ram Krishna Mission Vivekananda

Memorial, Vadodara was the first speaker and he explored the techniques of getting Happiness

and Peace in everyday life.

Dr. Viral Desai, Associate Professor, Sigma Institute of Pharmacy was next speaker. His topic

was “Healthy & Mindful Living”. He gave an idea of current life style, its harmful effect and

the changes required to have a healthy and meaningful life.

Then we had lunch break from 13.00 – 13.55 hrs.

Shri Kamlesh Bhai Shah, Rtd. Junior Scientific Officer, Food & Drugs Laboratory,

Vadodaragave speech on “Ethical Pharmacy Practice”. He explained that ethics should be

given importance in pharmacy and must be followed religiously.

Dr. Umesh M. Upadhyay, Principal, Sigma Institute of Pharmacy elaboratedPatient

counseling in Diabetes in details in his speech as 4th

speaker of the day.Then the program for

the first day was concluded with National Anthem.

On 20th November 2016 after the prayer, all the guests were welcomed by Dr. U. M.

Upadhyay. The first speaker for the day Dr. Sweta Shah, MD Gynaec, Nisarg Ortho. &

maternity Hosp., elaborated in her topic “Pregnancy and Medicine”.

Then our second speaker Dr. Sejal Shah, MS Ortho, MBA Healthcare,Nisarg Ortho. &

maternity Hosp gave lecture on “Patient counseling in Orthopedic Practice”.

Then we had a lecture from Dr. Prakash Shah, Principal In charge Shantilal Shah Pharmacy

College, Bhavnagar on “Novel Pharmacological agents”. He elaborated novel drugs available

in all categories. Then we had lunch break from 13.00 – 13.55 hrs.

Mr. Alpesh Patel, President, The Chemist & Druggist Association, Vadodara, emphasized on

“Community Pharmacy: A glance on nature of the task”.

Mr. Gilbert Mecwan, Secretary, Gujarat State Pharmacy Council, Ahmedabad. Who came

specially for valedictory ceremony gave an overview on why refresher course is required for

pharmacist and solved few queries of participants.

Before concluding Mr. Kalpesh Raval, Nodal officer of Pradhan Mantri Jan AushadhiYojna,

explained the initiatives taken by central govt. for opening shop of Generic medicines.

Finally an objective test of 100 marks was conducted and evaluated. Feedbacks from all

participants were collected and all the participants were given Certificates of Participation. The

whole programme was conducted by coordinator Mr. Hitesh Jain Asso. Professor, Sigma

Institute of Pharmacy. All the speakers were also felicitated by mementos from Sigma Institute

of Pharmacy and given certificate issued by GSPC. At the end participants came on the Dias

and gave feedback about the course, course content, institute and overall hospitality. After

having photo session the program was concluded by paying tribute to the Nation by the

National Anthem.

The whole program was covered by local media Gujarat Samachar, Sandesh, DivyaBhaskar

and LoksattaJansatta, Baroda. The course coordinator Dr. Hitesh Jain, course co-coordinator

Dr. Prasanna Pradhan & Ms. Bhavisha Patel and the whole team of Sigma Institute of

Pharmacy deserves a great appreciation for conducting this value added service to the society.
