Reactions 1456 - 15 Jun 2013 S Interferon-α-2b Various toxicities: case report A 32-year-old man developed various toxicities while receiving interferon-α-2b for Gorham’s disease complicated with chylothorax. The man received two doses of SC interferon-α-2b 50µg, administered 1 week apart. His condition was subsequently complicated by severe adverse effects, including fever, chills with rigors, tachypnoea, tachycardia, malaise and anorexia [times to reaction onsets and outcomes not clearly stated]. He then experienced fungaemia, nosocomial pneumonia and acute respiratory failure. One month later, his acute critical condition had resolved. He then received interferon-α-2a with gradual titration, and experienced fewer adverse effects [details of adverse effects with interferon-α-2a not stated]. Author comment: "In cases of adverse effects, most of the patients could ultimately tolerate it with gradual titration of [interferon] dose." Liu C-Y, et al.
