Wednesday, December 8th, at 11am, at the THEATRON cultural centre Hellenic Cosmos , 254 Pireos Street, 177 78 Tavros, Athens, Greece.Event introducing the new national export strategy of Greece.

The national export initiative represents a critical pillar of the governments strategy for economic development. Our goal is to realize a national plan for making Greek entrepreneurship more outward to the international economic environment.

The share of exports in the Greek GDP is just 8.7%. This is already increased since 2009 when it was standing at less than 8%. The respective figure for Spain is over 16%, for Portugal over 20%, for Ireland and the Netherlands over 50%.For the first time we establish a comprehensive plan to assist Greek enterprises to gain international competitiveness. All aspects of the national brand (exports, investments, tourism) will be supported by independent actions of the respective responsible agencies. However there will be coordination and synergies. Initiatives will either be implemented by the agencies themselves or will be outsourced. Quality will become the main advantage of the Greek products and services in order to create a solid brand for exports. We trust that focusing on quality is the way to become competitive internationally. We are committed as a government to be consistent and act in a coordinated way. Similarly, we expect the same from the exporters and their representative bodies. The three associations of exporters are already moving in this direction: they recently set up a cluster and now they speak with one voice and submit joint proposals. The National Export Council and other national councils had little effect so far. Now, the National Export Council will be absorbed by the National Council for Development and Competitiveness that will feature 3 more pillars: innovation, small-medium enterprises, and competitiveness (monitoring and improving the international competitiveness of Greece as measured by the World Economic Forum, the World Bank and the IMD).Improving market liquidity through new financial instruments. The new fund, called Go2Market, will include a state capital of about 70 million , which will be leveraged with funds from banks and other investors. Our goal is that these programs will be available in the spring of 2011.We publish today the guide for a program designed to improve the competitiveness of enterprises in Greecce. The program will offer funds of 30 million through the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF). The guide is available on www.mindev.gov.grThe Greek Credit Insurance Organization (ECIO) is profitable and will remain so. However, in 2011 it will become more client-focused and will acquire advanced software systems to improve its efficiency. We use strong statistical tools to monitor the results of our initiatives. For example, in the matrix above we can track the progress of our exports by sector and by country, having the ability to adjust our policies in order to satisfy our set priorities. We set ambitious and specific goals: (i) minimize the trade deficit, and (ii) boost exports to represent 10% of GDP by 2012 and 16% of GDP by 2014.
