email: [email protected] �Presentationtitle: Waiting for the Net Zero Energy Buildings? Buildings are responsible of consuming up to 35% of available energy. Fears came when dealing with the non- renewable energy types and the talk of their future scarcity. The world focused on ways to improve the innovation of renewable energy on one side, and to reduce the consumption of energy, on the other side, by voluntarily means as well as mandatory, and then a new glossary for buildings was introduced such as Net Zero Energy Smart, Advanced Energy, and Intelligent Buildings. Efforts were initiated on voluntarily developing and promoting competitive Building Rating Systems worldwide. Technical organizations are still innovating standards on two fronts: Energy Conservation and on mushrooming ideas for R & D of renewable energy materials, systems and products. Authorities of Jurisdiction, worldwide, are passing laws and codes, and sometimes relaxing them, when seeing an opportunity to meet objectives and committed targets (inside and outside the country) as set by their relevant energy agencies and departments. Examples like Custom tariff, incentives, facility of soft loans. Setting vision and target dates, say 2020, 2025, 2030 and now 2050 (upon following technical organizations recommendations), and now are changing them when discovering and due to many constraints that such objectives cannot be met on such dates. Many hands with many players are responsible for shifting the dates and with an increase pressure on many involved, may result in accepting the changing of dates and normalizing of such deviances.
