EXTRAORDINARY SOLUBILITY Free acids are soluble in water up to 85% by weight of solution and are also soluble in alcohol and ether. Most metal, salts {including those of heavy metals) are also very soluble in water.

REACTIONS WITH ORGANIC BASES Heteropolymolybdates precipitate alkaloids, proteins, basic dyestuffs and many other organic bases. They are strongly adsorbed by nitrogen fibers, such as nylon and wool.

OXIDATION AND REDUCTION Heteropolymolybdates are powerful oxidizing agents. Reduced compounds w i t h 1,2 or 3 oxygen atoms removed are very strong reducing agents.

HYDRATION Heteropolymolybdates are highly hydrated. Most compounds have several stages of hydration, and can be converted revers!bîy from one stage to another.
