Quiz Night:The Community’s Office of Education decided to combine knowledge with fun and organised its annual Quiz Night, a favouritewinter event that makes everyone, well…think. Olympic Hall was once again home to this year’s Quiz Night with dozens oftrivia fans taking part. Half way through the events, patrons enjoyed a special entertainment program featuring Flamenco danc-ing from Studio Flamenco. We would like to thank Mr Steve Georganas, Federal Member for Hindmarsh for accepting to per-form Quiz Master duties at the event.

Volunteers Award presentations:The Greek Orthodox Community of S.A is an organisation which values its volunteers and their services towards the progress ofthe organisation. For this reason, a special event was held on Monday 18th of June at Olympic Hall in order to honour our vol-unteers, as part of the Volunteers Week celebrations. The event was an initiative of the GOCSA Community Care Services andit was lovely to see our volunteers being recognised for their services and dedication. The event also featured a film presentationwith the screening of the popular Greek film ‘Roza of Smyrna’.

The following months are also culturally busy, with Taverna Night being next up in our calendar, on July 21st followed by thecelebrations of Dekapentavgoustos (Assumption of Virgin Mary) on August 15th and the Annual School Dance on August 25th.

Once again, I would especially like to thank all our hardworking volunteers for everything they do and to also reach out to newvolunteers and all those interested in getting more involved in our Greek Community.

I have said it before and I will say it again that I strongly encourage younger members of our community to get actively in-volved. You are our future and we need your active participation to keep going. You are the backbone of our Community tocommunicate and impart the changes necessary for the generations to come and continue to be the strong and cohesive groupthat we are.

Our aim as a Community is to maintain the harmony of the Greeks including our culture, our religious customs, traditions andlanguage. We also provide a unique opportunity to constituents to debate and exchange ideas, information involving their GreekAustralian culture, heritage and experience.

Γεια σε όλους και καλώς ήρθατε σε αυτή τη χειμερινή έκδοση του Κοινοτικού Pulse. Είχαμε ένα άκρως ενεργό και πολυάσχολοεξάμηνο μέχρι τώρα, γεμάτο από τόσες εκδηλώσεις και δραστηριότητες που είχαν αντίκτυπο στην ευρύτερη κοινότητα, συμπε-ριλαμβανομένης και της αλλαγής κυβέρνησης με νέο Πρωθυπουργό στον Steven Marshall.Παραθέτω μια σύντομη επισκόπηση των εκδηλώσεων και το πόσο απασχολημένοι όλοι ήμασταν διοργανώνοντάς τες. - Ξεκι-νήσαμε τη νέα χρονιά με τα Θεοφάνεια, ένα θρησκευτικό γεγονός που ευλόγησε την έναρξη του Νέου Έτους. Το φεστιβάλ τωνΘεοφανείων και o Αγιασμός των Υδάτων προσέλκυσε για άλλη μια φορά εκατοντάδες συμπολίτες από όλη την Αδελαΐδα λαμ-βάνοντας μέρος στους εορτασμούς και το οικογενειακό φεστιβάλ που ακολούθησε στην πλατεία Henley και την παραλία Hen-ley. Αποτελεί το πρώτο σημαντικό γεγονός της Κοινότητας, και το πρωτο θερινό φεστιβάλ για την ευρύτερη κοινωνία, φέρνο-ντας τη θρησκεία και τον πολιτισμό κάτω από μια στέγη. Ευχαριστούμε τον Δήμο του Charles Sturt και τη Δήμαρχο AngelaEvans για τη συνεχή στήριξή τους.Διεθνής Ημέρα της Γυναίκας:Εκτιμώντας τις γυναίκες και τον αγώνα τους για ισότητα, δικαιώματα και σεβασμό, η Κοινότητα διοργάνωσε την ετήσια εκδή-λωσή της στην Ολυμπιακή αίθουσα. Η Δρ. Teri Tan από την Sustainable Health Empowerment μας έδειξε ότι οι γυναίκες και οιάνθρωποι γενικά σε χώρες του τρίτου κόσμου εξακολουθούν να έχουν άμεση ανάγκη πρόσβασης σε ιατρικές υπηρεσίες, καθώςη ίδια παρουσίασε μερικές απίστευτες ιστορίες και στοιχεία, ακόμη εικόνες που συγκίνησαν το ακροατήριο. Επίσης, η κ. AnnaAmirkhanyan από την Αρμενική Κοινότητα της Νότιας Αυστραλίας, επίσης προσκεκλημένη ομιλήτρια, μίλησε για τη ζωή τηςως γυναίκα στην Αρμενία και τις εμπειρίες της εδώ στη Νότια Αυστραλία.Γλέντι:Η Κοινότητα ήταν υπερήφανη που συμμετείχε στο 40ο Φεστιβάλ Glendi στην Αδελαΐδα στα τέλη Μαρτίου. Δύο περίπτεραπληροφόρησης εξοπλισμένα με ενημερωτικό υλικό, βιβλία, φυλλάδια και άλλα ενημερωτικά προσπέκτους προσέφεραν στουςεπισκέπτες πλήρη ενημέρωση για τις υπηρεσίες που προσφέρει η Κοινότητα μας. Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον παρουσίασε η επίδειξηελληνικών παραδοσιακών στολών, όπου 9 κούκλες βιτρίνα είχαν ως έκθεματα εκθαμβωτικές παραδοσιακές φορεσιές από διά-φορα μέρη της Ελλάδας. Αυτό κέντρισε το ενδιαφέρον των επισκεπτών, κυρίως των νέων.Εορτασμοί 25ης Μαρτίου:

Member for Croydon and former Minister for Health MrPeter Malinauskas paid his very first visit at the Rid-leyton Greek Home for the Aged on February 23rd in hiscapacity as a Minister for Health at the me. Mr Ma-linauskas was greeted by the Community’s President MrBill Gonis, the Home’s Director of Care Ms AmandaBirkin, Charles Sturt Councillor Mr Paul Alexandrides andthe Community’s General Manager Mr Nick Kyriazopou-los. During his visit, Mr Malinauskas had the opportunityto tour around the Home’s premises and chat with someof the residents and staff members.

“This is an important ins tu on for the area and I amhappy to see that the Community has a vision for thissite that is worth pursuing,” Mr Malinauskas said. Anumber of residents grabbed the opportunity to chatwith Mr Malinasukas sharing with him their thoughts,memories and experiences. At the same me, the for-mer Minister met with some of the staff members andwas informed about the current programs and servicesoffered at the Home as well as some innova ve oneswhich are set to further improve the lives of the resi-dents. In par cular, Mr Malinauskas was impressed by afuture program called “Genera on Project”. The projectencourages social interac on between residents of thehome and younger persons where the two exchangeviews, opinions and concerns regarding life in general.This helps residents connect with the wider communityoutside the Home. Another innova ve program that in-volves technology is a Virtual Reality program whichaims at s mula ng par cular senses such as vision,hearing and also memory. Par cipants will be requiredto put VT glasses and a series of different images will be

projected through the embedded screens. Residentswill then be asked to respond according to the imagesthey see.

“There aren’t many ins tu ons with such innova vefacili es and programs in the area,” Mr Malinauskassaid. Following the tour around the home, Mr Malinaus-kas met with the Home’s administra on and membersof the Community’s Execu ve Council and discussed avariety of issues regarding old age and aged care. Healso expressed his support towards any future plans theCommunity has in store for the Home.

Following the 40-day Easter Lent of the Orthodox Calen-dar, thousands of Hellenes across Adelaide celebratedthe Resurrec on of Jesus Christ in what cons tutes themost important religious celebra on in all of Christen-dom.The Greek Orthodox Community’s churches commencedthe Easter services on Palm Sunday as Holy Weekmarked the beginning of the Passion of Christ.All the Community’s churches reached beyond full ca-pacity in the days leading to Easter Saturday as its mem-bers made their way to pray for peace, prosperity andgood health.Following the tradi on, women of all ages gathered ateach of our churches on Thursday to help decorate theTomb of Christ ‘Epitaphio’ as well as prepare the churchfor Good Friday.Black and purple ribbons ran across the churches’ interi-or reflec ng the mourning atmosphere for the Passionof Christ, while the morning services on Thursday andSaturday drew thousands of parishioners who came toreceive the Holy Communion.Con nuing on Good Friday, the Tomb of Christ dominat-ed in every church with thousands a ending the RoyalHours service and the litany of the Tomb of Christ re-minding church goers the sacrifice He made for humani-

ty.Byzan ne hymns were chanted around the Tomb and ataround 9.00pm the church procession of the ‘Epitaphio’made its way out and around the block, with thousandsof people following its course.The list of official guests who a ended the ‘Epitafio’ pro-cession on Good Friday at the Community’s churchesincluded the Hon Rachel Sanderson, Minister for ChildProtec on, the Hon David Pisoni, Minister for Industryand Skill, the Lord Mayor of Adelaide Hon Mar n Haese,Ms Angela Evans, Mayor of the City of Charles Sturt, MrMichael Hewitson, Deputy Mayor of the City of Unleyand Mr Paul Alexandrides, Councilor at the City ofCharles Sturt.The celebra ons peaked on Easter Saturday with thetradi onal midnight mass as thousands of the Commu-nity’s members flocked to church to a end the Resur-rec on Ceremony and to receive the Eternal Light. Atmidnight, priests sang out “Christ has Risen’, markingthe end of the Passion and making the joyful announce-ment of Christ’s resurrec on.It’s worth men oning that the Cathedral of Archangels& Gabriel hosted, like every year, the special Service ofLove, conducted later in the evening.

Αποθεώθηκε ο ΔημήτρηςΜπάσης

Αν πέρυσι αγαπήθηκε από το κοινό του στην Αδε-λαΐδα, φέτος ο Δημήτρης Μπάσης κυριολεκτικά α-ποθεώθηκε!Εκατοντάδες ομογενείς της Αδελαΐδας έζησαν καιπάλι μια αξέχαστη ελληνική βραδιά το Σάββατο 2Ιουνίου στο Σέρβικο Χωλ, μια βραδιά την οποία υ-πέγραψε με τη μουσική του, τη φωνή του και το τα-λέντο του διάσημος καλλιτέχνης. Ο δημοφιλής τρα-γουδιστής προσέφερε ένα απίστευτο μουσικό πρό-γραμμα για πάνω από τρεις ώρες με τραγούδια α-πό τη δική του καριέρα, ερμηνεύοντας όμως καιάλλες αγαπημένες παλιές και καινούριες επιτυχίες.Ήταν η δεύτερη ζωντανή εμφάνιση του διάσημουκαλλιτέχνη στην Αδελαΐδα ο οποίος πραγματοποίη-σε περιοδεία στην Αυστραλία και τη Νέα Ζηλανδίαμε πρώτο σταθμό το Περθ. Η βραδιά ξεκίνησε μεφαγητό, πριν ακολουθήσει το ξεφάντωμα στην πί-στα. Ο διάσημος Έλληνας καλλιτέχνης ανέβηκε στησκηνή λίγο μετά τις 9.30 το βράδυ μέσα από τα α-σταμάτητα χειροκροτήματα του κοινού. Εκτός απότα δικές του επιτυχίες, ο Δημήτρης Μπάσης ερμή-νευσε κομμάτια και άλλων πολυαγαπημένων καλλι-τεχνών, και η πίστα δεν άργησε να γεμίσει από κό-

σμο, ενώ είναι περιττό να πούμε ότι δεν άδειασεμέχρι το τέλος της συναυλίας γύρω στη 1.30 τη νύ-χτα. Το άνευ προηγουμένου κέφι που καταγράφη-κε καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της βραδιάς σφράγισε τηνεπιτυχία της συναυλίας αλλά και το ταλέντο του α-γαπημένου ερμηνευτή που απλά αποθεώθηκε τοκοινό. Στο πρόγραμμά του δεν παρέλειψε να αφιε-ρώσει μεγάλο μέρος και στον κορυφαίο Έλληνακαλλιτέχνη, τον αείμνηστο Δημήτρη Μητροπάνο μετον οποίο συνεργάστηκε στενά και τον οποίο θεω-ρεί μέντορά του. Στις 26 Ιουνίου του 2017 γιόρτασε20 χρόνια μουσικής καριέρας, διοργανώνοντας ειδι-κή εκδήλωση στην Τεχνόπολη Αθηνών με τη συμ-μετοχή και άλλων γνωστών καλλιτεχνών από τοχώρο της μουσικής. Το τελευταίο του άλμπουμ τιτ-λοφορείται «Τι Τα Θες» το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε πέ-ρυσι τον Ιούλιο ενώ ο ίδιος προετοιμάζεται για πε-ριοδεία σε διάφορες πόλεις της Ελλάδας μέσαστους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. Να σημειώσουμε ότι ησυναυλία του Δημήτρη Μπάση στην Αδελαΐδα ήτανμια πρωτοβουλία της Ελληνικής Ορθόδοξης Κοινό-τητας Ν. Αυστραλίας σε συνεργασία με την Ελληνι-κή Ορθόδοξη Κοινότητα Νέας Νότιας Ουαλίας.

The favourite Greek culinary aromas dominated the Square and along with the summer breeze it was theperfect Greek summer day…only thousands of miles away from Greece!The official part concluded at around 2.00pm and the fes val con nued with dancing and live music.The entertainment part began with performances by the Community’s Dance Academy students.A variety of tradi onal dances got everyone’s a en on as the Academy’s students showed yet again their talentand skill.The passionate and powerful dances of Pontos were also featured at this year’s entertainment program.The talented dance group of the Pon an Brotherhood of South Australia brought to the stage tradi on, culture anddazzling costumes, performing popular dance rou nes such as Kotsari and LetsinaBut the fun really heated up when a unique dance/fitness group showed how Greek dancing combined with aerobicexercises can burn serious calories and help lose weight…just by having fun.The crowd seemed to be enjoying the novelty and many joined the OPA-cize instructors as they were…well, per-forming! Meanwhile band No es (Νότες) Live had in store a full entertainment package for the guests un l latea ernoon. The Greek Orthodox Community of S.A. sincerely thanks the South Australian Labor Party for sponsor-ing this event and for their ongoing support towards the Community’s events.

όπως ο ίδιος δήλωσε, ύστερα από αρκετή «προπόνηση», ήταν αποφασισμένος φέτος να πιάσει το σταυρό.Λίγο πριν την έναρξη του επίσημου μέρους, ο τυχερός κολυμβητής παρέλαβε βραβείο από τον Κυβερνήτη Ν.Α κ.Χιου Βαν Λη και τον Πρόεδρο της Κοινότητας κ. Βασίλη Γκόνη για την επιτυχημένη του προσπάθεια.Κατά το επίσημο μέρος, ο πρώην Αναπληρωτής Πολιτειακός Πρωθυπουργός κ. Τζων Ράου επαίνεσε για άλλη μιαφορά την Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Κοινότητα Ν.Α λέγοντας πως είναι θαυμάσιο να βλέπει μια τόσο ζωντανή κοινότητανα μοιράζεται την κουλτούρα του τόπου της με την ευρύτερη κοινωνία της Νότιας Αυστραλίας.Ο κ. Γκόνης, Πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας έκανε ιδιαίτερη μνεία στους εθελοντές που εργάστηκαν ακούραστα για τηνεπιτυχία λέγοντας πως η συνεισφορά τους στην πρόοδο του οργανισμού είναι ανεκτίμητη.Το ψυχαγωγικό μέρος ξεκίνησε με χορευτικά από τους μαθητές της Ακαδημίας Χορού της Κοινότητας.Οι ταλαντούχοι μαθητές μας ταξίδεψαν σε διάφορα μέρη της Ελλάδας μέσα από τις χορευτικές τους παρουσιά-σεις και αποθεώθηκαν από το τους επισκέπτες.Η Ακαδημία Χορού της Κοινότητας έδωσε τη σκυτάλη στο χορευτικό συγκρότημα της Ποντιακής Αδελφότητας Ν.Α.Οι δυνατοί και γεμάτοι πάθος χοροί του Πόντου εντυπωσίασαν τους παρευρισκόμενους ενώ οι πολύχρωμες, φα-νταχτερές στολές των χορευτών, μάγεψαν ακόμη μια φορά.Το κέφι ανέβηκε στα ύψη όμως με τις χορευτικές παρουσιάσεις του καινοτομικού χορευτικού συγκροτήματος γυ-μναστικής OPA-cize.Οι ΟΡΑ-cize έδειξαν στο κοινό, πώς, μέσα από τους ελληνικούς χορούς, συνδυασμένους με ασκήσεις αεροβικήςγυμναστικής μπορεί κανείς να κάψει θερμίδες και να χάσει περιττά κιλά.Οι χορευτικο-γυμναστικές τους χορογραφίες ξεσήκωσαν στην κυριολεξία το πλήθος ενώ πολλοί ήταν αυτοί πουμπήκαν μαζί τους στο…χορό της γυμναστικής.Μετά τις παρουσιάσεις των χορευτικών συγκροτημάτων τη σκυτάλη πήρε η ορχήστρα Νότες Live, η οποία έπαιξεαγαπημένα χορευτικά κομμάτια χαρίζοντας κέφι μέχρι αργά το απόγευμα.

The Greek Orthodox Community welcomed theNew Year the traditional way, combining partyingwith old traditions. Following a successful NewYear’s Eve event at Olympic Hall that had all thenecessary elements for a great dinner dance, theExecutive and Supervisory Committees followed thetraditions by cutting the New Year’s Day pie, namely“Vasilopita” .The cutting of the Vasilopita took place on Tuesday2 January at Olympic Hall. A special church serviceat the Cathedral of Archangels Michael & Gabrielaround 7.00pm marked the beginning of the event.Dozens of the Community’s members attended theservice and later gathered at Olympic Hall to partic-ipate. They even tried their luck as they had thechance to win a gold sovereign, which is placed in-side the pies, as per Greek custom.Bishop of South Australia Chrisostomos lead theshort service, conducted at the beginning of theevent, wishing a successful year ahead for the Or-ganisation as well as its members.Following the service, His Grace, along with the

President of the Community Mr Bill Gonis OAM pro-ceeded with the cutting of the pies. Representatives

from each Community group received a piece, fol-lowed by the rest of the community’s members whoalso received their share.The lucky winner who found the gold sovereign wasMrs Mary Gazecimeon from the Women’s Fellow-ship of the church of St Nicholas at Thebarton. «Μέχρι στιγμής έχουμε τοποθετήσει τεχνη-τά μέλη σε πάνω από 50 παιδιά και ενήλικες, έχουμε εξασφαλίσει δωρεές πάνω από $300,000 για ιατρικό εξοπλι-σμό και έχουμε τροφοδοτήσει τοπικές κοινωνίες με βασικά είδη όπως γυαλιά, είδη καθαρισμού σώματος, ακόμακαι οδοντόβουρτσες!»Η Δρ Τερι Ταν (Τερψιχόρη Καπινιάρη) γεννήθηκε στην Αδελαΐδα με καταγωγή από την Καλαμάτα.Είναι ειδικός Ιατρικών Επιχειρήσεων και Διαχείρισης Ιατρικών Αποστολών, έχει Πτυχίο Πολιτισμικής Ανθρωπολο-γίας καθώς και Πτυχίο Μάστερς Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων με 20ετή πείρα στην διαχείριση κλινικών και ιατρικώνκέντρων και τη διοργάνωση αποστολών σε υποανάπτυκτες χώρες.Η αγάπη της για την πολυπολιτισμικότητα, την εκπαίδευση και τη φιλανθρωπία την οδήγησε να ιδρύσει την υπη-ρεσία Sustainable Health Empowerment S.H.E.Η S.H.E είναι μια συλλογική προσπάθεια που εδρεύει στις ΗΠΑ και που αποτελείται από μια ομάδα ειδικών σεθέματα υγείας οι οποίοι δουλεύουν μαζί για να προσφέρουν άμεση βοήθεια σε χώρες που έχουν ανάγκη.Η κα Ταν δήλωσε ωστόσο ότι επόμενη στη λίστα για παροχή βοήθειας είναι η Ελλάδα μιας και το σύστημα υγείαςτης χώρας έχει πληγεί σοβαρά λόγω της οικονομικής κρίσης. Στην ίδια εκδήλωση ομιλήτρια ήταν επίσης και η καΆννα Αμιρκχανιάν, μια πρόσφυγας από την Αρμενία η οποία μίλησε για τη ζωή της τόσο στην Αρμενία όσο καιστην Αυστραλία. Η κα Αμιρκχανιάν εργάζεται στο Κέντρο Μεταναστευτικών Πηγών στην Αδελαΐδα ενώ πρόσφατατέλεσε και καθήκοντα Προέδρου του Αρμένιου Πολιτιστικού Συλλόγου Νοτίου Αυστραλίας.Η εκδήλωση πλαισιώθηκε με ζωντανή μουσική από τις κυρίες Δήμητρα Τσούνη και Ιωάννα Σάλτη καθώς και απόμέλη της Χορωδίας της Κοινότητας υπό τη διεύθυνση του Γιώργου Κατσιμπρή και την μουσική συνοδεία του Γιάν-νη Κουρμπέλη. Ταυτόχρονα έγιναν απαγγελίες ποιημάτων ενώ απονεμήθηκαν και τιμητικές πλακέτες σε δυο κυ-ρίες της Κοινότητας, την κα Μαίρη Βαρτσόκα και την κα Στέλλα Χατζηκώστα για τις πολύτιμες και πολύχρονεςυπηρεσίες τους στην Κοινότητα. Την εκδήλωση τίμησαν με την παρουσία τους η Αναπληρωτής Αρχηγός της Αξιω-ματικής Αντιπολίτευσης κα Βίκυ Τσάπμαν, η Υποψήφια Βουλευτής Περιφέρειας Αδελαΐδας κα Ιωάννα Τσαπαλιά-ρη, η Βουλευτής Αδελαΐδας και Υπουργός Προστασίας του Παιδιού στην Αντιπολίτευση κα Ρέητσελ Σάντερσονκαι η Δήμαρχος του Τσάρλς Στερτ κα Άνζτελα Έβανς.

Dr Teri Tan is a medical business & management specialist with twenty years of experience runningmedical clinics, administering medical mission trips, fundraising, and consulting in business and HR mat-ters.Before founding SHE, Teri was a foundational member of the Cambodian Health Professionals Associa-tion of America (CHPAA), where she served as head mission administrator for six of her seven missiontrips.Her administrative expertise combined with her love of multiculturalism, education, and philanthropy ledher to found Sustainable Health Empowerment (SHE) in 2015.

The International Women’s Day event also featured a presentation from Mrs Anna Amirkhanyan, Presi-dent of the Armenian Community of S.A. who spoke about her life in Armenia as well as in Australia as afemale migrant.

The event continued with a cultural program with live singing by musicians Demeter Tsounis and IoannaSaltis as well as the participation of the Community’s choir, accompanied by musician John Kourbelis.

Following the tradition, two ladies from the Community’s volunteers team were presented with honoraryplaques for their valued contribution to the Community.

The two ladies who were honoured this year were Mrs Mary Vartsokas and Mrs Stella Hagicostas.

The special event was part of the Evzones’ visit to Austral-ia where they were invited to par cipate in the celebra-

ons for Anzac Day, making this their second visit to Ade-laide and in Australia in general.

The 12 Evzones arrived at the Home just a er 11.00amwhere a number of the home’s residents, family mem-bers, members of the Home’s staff, the Community’s cler-gy and many school students gave them the warmest wel-come enhanced with Hellenic pride.Their entrance in the Home’s func on room was electrify-ing ge ng everyone's a en on with the strong presence,heavy footsteps and military precision.

Amongst the official guests who a ended the event wasSouth Australian Senator Alex Gallacher, the Mayor ofCharles Sturt Ms Angela Evans and City of Charles SturtCouncillor Mr Paul Alexandrides.

The event started off with a message by the Community’sPresident Mr Bill Gonis OAM, who, moved by the pres-ence of the Evzones in the room, warmly thanked themfor honouring the Community with their visit.

“I reiterate again our delight with your presence here andtrust that your stay in our city signals to the South Aus-

tralian Community at large that the Hellenic Na on is s llproud, but more importantly it remains true to its val-ues,” said Mr Gonis.

In his message Senator Gallacher expressed his sa sfac-on for seeing the Greek Community having made such

progress in its 88-year old history.“I am par cularly delighted to see the Greek OrthodoxCommunity pu ng together such an event and I am evenprouder to see the Evzones par cipa ng in the Anzac Daycelebra ons,” he said.

But it was Hellenic Navy ensign Mr Kostas Athanasopou-los, accompanying the Evzones in Australia who cap vat-ed the audience.Without a microphone and with a commanding presencehe expressed his gra tude to the Greek community forwhat they have done to keep the Hellenic spirit alive.

“Keep Greece alive in your hearts and minds so that yourchildren and your children’s children can proudly say thatthey are Hellenes,” Mr Athanasopoulos said.

Following the custom, there was an exchange of gi sfrom both sides.

Mr Gonis was par cularly delighted to receive on behalfof the Greek Orthodox Community of S.A. a USB s ck witha rare video celebra ng the 150th Anniversary of the Hel-lenic Presiden al Guard.

This will be added to the long list of precious gi s to theCommunity from various organisa ons and other officialsfrom Australia and overseas.

The students of the Community’s Dance Academy gave anextra tone of Hellenic pride with their dance performanc-es having the Evzones as the backdrop.

Photo opportunity with the Evzones was given to all atthe end of the formali es where everyone who was pre-sent tried to capture a historic moment of Hellenic pride.

Concluding their visit to Adelaide, an ini a ve of the Hel-lenic Studies Founda on , the Evzones headed to Sydneyto par cipate in the Anzac Day celebra ons.

δοξη Κοινότητα Ν.Α. το απόγευμα της Κυριακής.

Επίκεντρο του εορτασμού ήταν και πάλι ο ΚαθεδρικόςΝαός Παμμεγίστων Ταξιαρχών στο κέντρο της Αδελαΐ-δας.Οι εκδηλώσεις πλαισιώθηκαν με επιμνημόσυνο δέηση

εις μνήμη των ηρώων του 21, κατάθεση στεφάνων, α-παγγελίες ποιημάτων από μαθητές των σχολείων τηςΚοινότητας και μεγάλη σχολική εορτή.

Το πρωί τελέστηκε η Μεγάλη Πανηγυρική Δοξολογία πα-ρουσία πολιτικών στελεχών, μελών του Διοικητικού καιΕποπτικού Συμβουλίου της Κοινότητας, εκπροσώπωντοπικών Κοινοτήτων και Συλλόγων καθώς και εκατοντά-δες ομογενών.

Δεκάδες μαθητές και μαθήτριες ντυμένοι τσολιάδες καιαμαλίες, έδωσαν έναν έντονο πατριωτικό τόνο στο εσω-τερικό του ναού ενώ η γαλανόλευκη ήταν το κυρίαρχοστοιχείο κατά τη διάρκεια των εκδηλώσεων.Στη συνέχεια πραγματοποιήθηκε η καθιερωμένη τελετήστο ηρώο του ναού με κατάθεση στεφάνων, απαγγελίεςποιημάτων από μαθητές των ελληνικών σχολείων τηςΚοινότητας και τήρηση ενός λεπτού σιγής προς τιμή τωνηρώων που θυσιάστηκαν για την ελευθερία της πατρί-δας.

Στον πανηγυρικό λόγο του, ο Πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας κ.Γκόνης τόνισε πως είναι ιδιαίτερα υπερήφανος που ηΚοινότητα κρατά ζωντανές τις παραδόσεις των ΕθνικώνΕπετείων εδώ και σχεδόν 90 χρόνια.

«Με χαροποιεί που η Κοινότητα διατηρεί τις παραδόσειςτης 25η Μαρτίου μέσα από τα σχολικά προγράμματα,δίνοντας την ευκαιρία να διασφαλιστούν και για τις μελ-λοντικές γενεές Ελλήνων στην Αυστραλία,» είπε χαρα-κτηριστικά.

Την σεμνή τελετή ακολούθησε μεγάλη σχολική εορτή στοκολλέγιο St Marys που βρίσκεται απέναντι από τον Καθε-δρικό Ναό.

Πάνω από 300 μαθητές έδωσαν ένα δυναμικό παρόν,τιμώντας την ημέρα με ποιήματα, τραγούδια και μικρέςθεατρικές παραστάσεις.
