ALYIn the last exam for my bachelor studies we had

to face the planning of a science and technologies museum. The site was included in an emerging cultural area of Rome. Its surroundings included the "MAXXI" (a museum for the XXI cent. art) by Zaha Hadid, the "Auditorium" of Renzo Piano and the "Palazzetto dello Sport" of Luigi Nervi.

The approach of my design followed the mass flows of people exiting the new metro station, next to the site. The intensity of these streams of people influenced the bending of a matrix of parallel strips, a texture recalling the former settlement of the site: some military barracks. By pulling up the matrix, a series of spaces were formed. The site is divided in two by Via Guido Reni, so one side hosted the museum and common

areas, and the other included an auditorium. The two parts were connected by an under-passage, and the ground level street was converted into an urban parc. The existing street was buried under the museum under-passage. The blind border of the museum site included a restaurant that looked out at the newly made MAXXI museum.

ALY This clip was submitted for my architecture minor

bachelor presentation at the university of Rome. It included my most important academic projects and explained how they were connected to each other. I analyzed the process of finding an idea, and how and what was needed to achieve it.

S A master degree’s course for the Building Technology track at the TU Delft that covered the whole creation process of a prototype for a façade, from its conceptual phase all the way to the final design.

The design was inspired by Victor Vasarely, one of the major artists of the OP-Art, a visual art movement that makes use of optical illusions.

The concept of shading was achieved by rotating of 90° a set of panels forming a pattern inspired by the famous texture used by the artist in “Hommage à l’hexagon” (CLIP 1). 3D printed gearboxes host the mechanism and a laser cut structure bears the loads of the prototype.

S Building technology was a course which aimed to the creation of an innovative façade concept. My design consisted of a double curtain breathing façade which was composed of double glazed windows cut in triangles shaped and placed on different angles to scatter the reflections of the surrounding environment.

10Technoledge Informatics Design was a course that aimed to the creation of a fiber glass reinforced plastic bench by using parametric softwares such as Grasshopper for Rhino.

This concept is composed of 4 identical modules that are repeated and rotated to form a knot like bench. The repetition of the same module allows to create moulds for only a quarter of the whole model.

24 MIGRANTSThe Artist analyses how migrants focus on the psychological consequences of their feelings, their suppression, and the painful inner processes. The shape of this sculpture follows both in form and materials the meaning of such emotions.

A rubber deck holds steel cabels that inflate and deflate neoprene membranes included in glass bottles. Every heart loudly beats and has a speaker inside, which plays a recorded original suffering story, spoken by the voice of a migrant, in its own language.

“The ensemble is drowned out by the beating hearts.”

26 FRONTIERSA series of gold-plated aluminum sculptures, describing the borders and stigmatizing their evolutions: the nation symbol, the sense of nation reinforced by borders drawn as a result of war, the national ideal. It involves overlaying historical paths, incorporating the key dates in the history of a nation. The one to the right is Israel.

In the centre of a circle symbolizing the globe, or Homer’s sphere surrounded by oceans, an abstract group of countries will be symbolically gathered. Each cube represents an imaginary country. A place of oppression, lack of freedom. The interstices in the concrete let through whispers, cries, sounds of rebellions and military marches, discussion, poetry about freedom, etc. It’s an organized cacophony amid the rubble of destroyed countries. Is it not political or economic oppression which drives people onto the road? On the other hand, encouraging us to look to the skies, we will hear from above, randomly and triggered by the audience’s movements, birdsong of freedom.
