a Think about the last time you had to look for a new home.

Use the questions below to talk to a partner about your experience of house-hunting.

b Listen to Jack and Molly talking about house-hunting.

What kind of home are they looking for, and why? X / X

c Look at the kinds of property ads that Molly might see later at the estate agent’s office.

Would you expect to see something like this in your country?

1 Attractive 1-bedroom ground-fl oor fl at in the heart of the old town. Spacious living room with French windows opening onto a terrace with view of the cathedral. Fitted designer kitchen has space for a small table. Modern bathroom (shower only) / WC. Property comes with private parking space.

£ 200,000

2 Unique 2-bedroom apartment on the 2nd fl oor of an elegant Victorian 3-storey house just 5 miles from the centre of town. Living room with open fi replace and bay windows, large kitchen / dining room, bathroom with many original features and separate WC. Wonderful high ceilings and original wooden fl oors.

£ 340,000

3 Pretty terraced house in a lively area of the city, close to train station. Front door opens into living room, with fi tted kitchen behind and bathroom extension at the back. Open staircase leads from living room to 2 upstairs bedrooms. Small but charming rear garden. In need of extensive renovation.

£ 180,000

d Find words in the adverts that match the descriptions below.

1 made specially for the room:

2 one of a long row of similar houses:

3 with three fl oors:

4 the opposite of fl oor – it’s above your head:

5 there is nothing else like it:

6 extra room added on later to the back

or side of a house:

7 with lots of room:

8 at the back or behind:

How long have you lived in your current home? How did you find it – for example through an estate agent or a property ad?Why did you choose it?Do you enjoy house-hunting and moving? Why / why not?

In the UK, as in Germany, the first floor of a building is the one above

the ground floor. But in the US, “first floor” means the ground floor.
