Experimental Test of the Ion Condensation

There is a mistake in eqs 13 and 14 that yields tofractions of condensed counterions below those presentedin the paper. There is a 4π missing in the denominatorof eq 13. As a result, eq 14 must read as follows:

This modification yields values for n/Z below the theoreti-cal predictions, particularly for the lowest charged latexparticles. At high charges (Z > 105), the disagreement iswithin experimental error. In fact, recent results1,2 showthat for higher surface charges than those of this paper,the extension to the Debye-Huckel-Bjerrum theoryquantitatively agrees with experimental results.

In addition to this error, there are two typographicalerrors, which we will like to correct. In the definitions ofφn and φf (page 4091), Fn

3 and Ff3 should be substituted by

Fn and Ff, respectively.
