  • To whom was Luke written? (Theophilos) Theophilus Lover of God. Prominent man (likely a public official) who received Luke and Acts and patronized the author. By extension, everyone who loves God and wants to know the certainty of things taught about Jesus. I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus (Luke 1:3b)

  • When does human life begin? Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:4) For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) Before John was conceived, he had a name, a purpose and a calling from God. Baby is referred to as he not it or the fetus. Even in the womb, John is referred to as a son. Before birth, John displays human emotion (joy). As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. (Luke 1:44) And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son (Luke 1:36a)

  • Why is the story of John so important? His story connects the Old and New Testaments John was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. John broke Gods silence. Johns conception was a miracle. John was the prophesied forerunner of Messiah. John and Jesus are intertwined in the plan of God.
