The Harshaw Chemical Co. has issued a new price list of driers for varnishes, paints, linoleum, and printing inks, dated Oct. 29, the immediate occasion for the new list having been the higher prices for lead, zinc, and cobalt metal, which have finally been reflected in higher prices of naphthenates, tallates and related metal compounds. The Plaskon Division, Libbey-Owens- Ford Glass Co., has cut prices of silicone- alkyd coating resins from 14 to 38%. A company official predicts that this down- ward price trend will continue until sili- cone-alkyds eventually compete price- wise with standard organic coating resins. Prices of their three Plaskons now range from 90 cents to $1.25 per pound. They have excellent properties of heat resist- ance and weatherability. Rohm & Haas Co. has made a further cut in the price of capryl alcohol, the 85% technical grade now selling at 17.5 cents per pound in tank-car quantities A new grade of capryl alcohol has been announced, containing 85% capryl alco- hol and 5% methyl hexyl ketone, priced at 20.25 cents, Philadelphia. Capryl alcohol is used as an intermediate for vinyl plasticizers, urea-type coating resins, and oil-soluble additives; as a high boil- ing solvent; and as an antifoaming agent.
