Being initiated into an great fraternity with a great group of guys I call my brothers is something special. This semester was full of success. We had the “Sun-day Funday” philanthropy, which was held with the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi. We also had a fun, safe Fake Patties Day along with good chapter grades, great involve-ment around campus and along with intramurals.

I was a part of a pledge class that had my entire class initiated was unreal. Being able to have great talks about sports, school, the house, and everything in between was something I’ve never had before. You get to really get to know people living with 70 of them and being around them every day. Ourofficersworkextremelyhardtotakeustothetop.OurPublicRelationsOfficer,BrotherLukeSells,hashelpedtremendouslyinthehopetogetAlphaTauOmegaonestepclosertotheTrueMeritaward.Ourjudicialboardandexecutiveboard have put all of their efforts together to make our fraternity not only the bet it can be, but also the safest. We thank them for all of their constant hard for what they do. A new semester is approaching soon which means you will begin to get new brothers of the Delta Theta brotherhood. Having so many great brothers around me, I am ready to get more involved and help out wherever the fraternity needs me to. President’s Report In the blink of an eye, another successful spring semester for Delta Theta Chapterisinthebooks.AsthisismyfirstTheVintage,Ifeelanintroductionis appropriate. I’m Trevor Splichal, Chapter President since February. I am a sophomore in Civil Engineering, an active participant in K-State Student Government, and in my second year as a member of Alpha Tau Omega. As jumping into the presidency can be overwhelming, I am thankful we have a hard-working ExecutiveCommitteeandsupportsystemtohelpwheneveritisneeded.IstartedasPledge Class President and then became Philanthropy Chairman after my initiation. Ihaveusedthoseexperiencestotrytobetterourchapterinphilanthropyandservice. My presidency got off to a great start with my attendance at the Presidents’ RetreatinIndianapolisandSpringElectionsinJanuary.Manynoteworthyeventshave happened in the last four months. Starting with philanthropies, which are what I believe to be one of the most crucial parts in a growing and improving chapter: we held two new and successful philanthropies this spring. First was the annual “Gamma Phi Brunch” was held at ATO with the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta. This event was a brunch and social gatheringthatraisedover$1,300forGirlsontheRun,anorganizationthatbenefitsmiddle-school-aged girls to help them understand their true potential through being active and valuing themselves. This year we decided to change our signature event withthewomenofAlphaDeltaPifromthe“PowercatPaintRun”tothefirstannual“Sunday Funday Carnival”. Even through the rain, the Carnival was a big success for students and the community. The event raised thousands of dollars to give to RonaldMcDonaldHouseCharities, theirphilanthropy.RMHCprovideshousingand support near hospitals across the United States, so that families can stay togetherwhenachildishospitalizedforalongperiodoftime. His Special Initiation was approved three years ago when the Chapter House was dedicated, butwasputonholduntilhecouldreturnfromextensiveactioninthe U. S. during the planning and construction period for the New Chapter House. It was a very special occasion for Delta Theta Chapter, as Andrew was welcomed into the Brotherhood with twenty-four other members of the Fall Pledge Class. Congratulations to the whole Chapter, especially the Membership Education Chairmen, Pledge Fathers and all the new initiates. Turning Involvement to Success After resigning from the position as Chaplain only a few months ago to step into the role of Vice-President of our chapter, I felt that I had a decent understanding of what itwouldtaketobeeffectiveinmynewrole.RunningtheExecutiveCommitteeandtheJudicialBoardwiththesupportofBrotherTrevorSplichal,chapterPresident,andtheotherelectedorappointedofficerswouldbecrucialinmakingsurethatthechapterransmoothly. However, when my term began I found out quickly that this would be much easier said than done.

During the Presidential retreat with Brother Splichal before we both stepped into our respective roles, we were given the wonderful opportunity to meet many Brothers from different chapters and bonded through the mutual appreciation for our fraternity and the values that are carried with it. Others chapters shared some of the struggles that they were facing and a chief concern among many if not most had is the way the Greek communityisoftenportrayedintoday’ssocietyandthegeneralized, oftenstereotypicalviewsthatgowithit.Inlightofissuesrangingfromunderagedrinkingtosexualassaultallegations that occur through out the nation, within and outside of the Greek community, itisapriorityofBrotherSplichalandminetocoachandguideourchaptertoexcellence. It is vital that the chapter works together to better itself or risk falling together due to the actions of our own weakness, which is why we must continually grow as individuals and as a chapter.

Trevor and I are both grateful and appreciative of the new chapter house as well as the hard work that past and current members put in to maintain it. There is a common respect and values held by members, a certain pride that motivates the continual care and progress of the house and chapter. I am thankful that we have such an outstanding and caring group of men who strive for not only their best, but also the best for the chapter aswhole.IamproudofDeltaTheta’sexecutivecommitteeandtheconstantstridestheymaketowardsbenefitingthefutureofthechapter, aswellaseachmember’sinvolvementwhether they hold a position or not.

With such great members, I am sure that Delta Theta will continue to grow and im-prove, defying the negative stereotypes of fraternities by being true and worthy brothers.

Longago,backinthedistantyearof2014thisesteemedpublicationwasmybrain-child. In the interim period since, I’ve had the pleasure of diversifying my ATO experiencebybeinginseveraldifferentpositions, includingVicePresidentandHouseManager. However, noneofmyexperiencesmatterasmuchtomeasthelastyear being philanthropy chair is. Sometimes it is hard to remember just how fortu-nate we are as safe, healthy young men getting the chance to get an education and having a heck of a time while doing it. Unfortunately, many of our fellow peers are not as lucky and have to deal with tragic situations far out of their own control. As a group, we have the power to alleviate some of this burden by coming together to give of ourselves, while still having an incredibly fun time doing it. This year was a near record year for Delta Theta philanthropically, and a good forecaster of positive times to come.

During the fall semester, we had the opportunity to work with the ladies of Tri-Del-tafortheirannual“GamedayforSt.Jude”event.ThedayconsistedofwatchingtheKSUv.TexasTechgameandservingdeliciouschiliandconsiderablylessdeliciouscornbread.Wealsohadmanyawesomeprizestoauctionawayinasilentauction,includingafootballsignedbyBillSnyderandalotofRoyalsmemorabiliafollow-ing their win in the World Series several weeks prior. We had a lot of delicious food, including pancakes, sausage, and eggs. Despite some road bumps in the development of the event, the brunch was a considerable success, serving hundreds of guests and raising several thousands of dollars. It was great that the chapter could come together early on a Sunday morn-ing (actually like 10AM) to support a great cause.

As we have for the past three years, we once again paired with the ladies of Al-pha Delta Pi for our Spring signature event. After noticing an oversaturation of 5K events, we decided to move on from our traditional Powercat Paint Run, and instead held our first annual Sunday Funday philanthropy carnival. Mother Nature may have been against us for the second consecutive year, but we rallied through and were able to hold the event indoors. Despite the setback, the event still raised thousands for Ronald McDonald House Charities and was a lot of fun for everyone involved.

While my time as philanthropy chair may be coming to close, I have no doubt that my successor will have a great base to launch events next year, and I know the chap-ter will give the same tremendous support they’ve always given me. L&R.

It’s Over When It’s Over

Theoldadage“Timeflieswhenyourehavingfun”definitelyappliestothislastspring here at Delta Theta. I can think back to last spring when I decided to pledge at ATO and I can tell you now I didn’t know what I had in store for me and how much fun I would have. The past year and a half has been full of wonderful memories made at the house and with my brothers. Of course our main reason we are here at Kansas State Uni-versity is to get our education, but what is college without a little fun. I think the spring truly embodies that socially and I think I can speak for everyone to say they really en-joyed it.

TheSpringalwayshasourmarqueeparties, firstofffeaturingTaugarittaville.Itwasonce again a blast as always. We had a new band this year which feautured a couple of brothers’elementaryjanitor.Likealwaysthebandplayedsomeoftheirorignialsalongwith covers ranging from “Margarittaville” to classic country covers. As always some of our favorite sororities had their Mom’s Weekends. The beautiful ladies of Chi Omega and Alpha Delta Pi all came over along with their moms, enjoying an evening of classic mu-sic and handsome gentlemen. Following Taugarittaville the weekend after just happened to be Fake Patty’s Day, maybe the greatest modern tradition at Kansas State University. All of the brothers woke up very early in anticipation of the day once again this year. Wild costumes were in full swing and lots of green to be seen. The day was action packed and everyone had a blast seeing old friends and meeting girls from other universities.

As always Spring break followed these two great weekends. Twenty two brothers from the fall and spring sophomore pledge classes decided to make our way down to gulf shores for seven days. While we had great times at the house leading up to this I don’t know if Spring Break can be topped. Everyone spent hours upon hours on the beach as our house sit 10 feet from the sand. The warm was no colder than 70 degrees any day and always sunny. I think I can speak for everyone that attended and say that it could have been the best week of all our lives.

Page 13: THE VINTAGE - Amazon S3 · 2016. 11. 21. · Vol. 96, No. 1 THE VINTAGE Spring, 2016 The Vintage is published by Delta Theta of Alpha Tau Omega, Inc., a Kansas corporation and chartered

Many weeks followed spring break as we had Battle of the Bayou with Delta Upsi-lon one weekend. For the second consecutive year the Taus won in unanimous decision. The theme being redneck, extremely country ect. After the “battle” we had our date party which was hosted at eighteen63 which is always a hot spot Kstate Greek life. The weekend was great as always and Im sure everyone is looking forward to it once more again next year.

As the final weeks wind down we still are not done yet. This next weekend we have 54 brothers and their dates going to The Lake of the Ozarks for our Spring Formal. I know a lot of brother are very excited as a lot of us did not participate in formal last year. Fol-lowing that weekend we have the timeless tradition Truckin’. Which features Lucas Maddy Band at our house. It should be a great end to the semester and have everyone motivated for finals. Im thankful for the brotherhood I have experienced this last year as it has un-doubtabley been the greatest year of my life. I can only look forward to many more years of brotherhood and forever thankful for ATO.

Delta Theta Brotherhood

Brotherhood has been and will continue to be the backbone of Delta Theta and fraternities everywhere, and the 2016 spring semester for Delta Theta was yet anotherexampleofthisfact.Thereisnocorrectorincorrectwaytogoaboutfoster-ing brotherhood and encouraging the bonding of a great group of brothers because brotherhood comes in many forms. Whether it be a basketball tournament in the courtyard,alatenightbonfire,orevenjustthelendingofahelpinghand,brother-hood is found everywhere here at Delta Theta.

The parties and formals and socials are unbelievably fun, but even these great parties cannot surpass the memories created from brotherhood events. Delta The-ta makes a concerted effort to host at least one brotherhood event a week. These events range anywhere from spending a day together at Pillsbury Crossing to hav-inganXboxtournamentatthehouse.Nomatterwhattheevent,bondingalongwitha whole lot of fun and good memories is the key.

AsidefromtheorganizedeventsatthehouseandaroundManhattan,anoth-er big bonding moment for Delta Theta was the big spring break trip down to gulf shores. Several brothers were able to make the long trek down to Alabama to spend their spring break together at the beautiful beach. This trip allowed for the bond that is shared to become even stronger as it allowed for the chance to have everyone in the same place for multiple days without the stress of school looming overhead. All in all this semester saw a great group of individuals become a great team of broth-ers through the bonding and memories that were made. The Chapter grew to new heights as it grew closer on a personal level and this will surely continue for years to come.

Special Inititate AsapartoftheInitiationoftheFallPledgeClassonJanu-ary 15, 2016, a very special Brother was initiated: Brother An-drew B. Three years ago, the Delta Theta Board of Trustees ap-proved the Special Initiation request of the Chapter for Andrew, which was to occur whenever he could return to the U.S. His fa-ther, Brother Ben Barnert, was eagerly awaiting for that day to arrive so that he could participate in his son’s initiation. Unfortunately, 2 and a half years ago Brother Ben Barnert died of a brain tumor at age 59. As Andrew’s Marine Corps End ofServicewasJanuary8th,hewasavailableforInitiationwithall 24 members of the Fall Pledge Class.
