On behalf of the client, SPS Ltd, CERAM Building Technology CBT undertook a series of tests on the T-MFS silicone render system. The render system comprised:
• Renderflex Board (9mm thickness)
• Granol’therm G Basecoat (nominal 4mm)
• SPS Premier Mesh
• Granosil’plus STF
• Granosil KR
The T-MFS silicone render system was applied to various substrates according to the manufacturers instructions. Two operatives supplied by SPS Ltd. carried out this part of the test to replicate as closely as possible the method of application followed in practice. As part of the test programme, suitable tests were to be identified. The tests identified as being most relevant to the product were the BS EN 1015 suite of tests (Methods of tests for mortar for masonry) referred to in BS EN 998-1: 200 – Specification for mortar for masonry – Part 1: Rendering and plastering mortar. A number of other standards do exist for the testing of render and render systems. A comparison between the BS EN suite of tests selected for the render materials provided by SPS Ltd., MOAT 22: 1988 – UEAtc Directives for the assessment of external insulation systems for walls (expanded polystyrene insulation faced with a thin rendering) and MOAT 24: 1983. Directives for the assessment of plastic renderings was made and reported in CERAM report BT07003TMO Comparison.
A suite of tests were carried out on the T-MFS silicone render system and are summarised overleaf
