Πρὸς Κολοσσαεῖς 3:4-11 τὸ ἀνάγνωσμα

Ἀδελφοί, ὅταν ὁ Χριστὸς φανερωθῇ, ἡ ζωὴ ἡμῶν, τότε καὶ ὑμεῖς σὺν αὐτῷ φανερωθήσεσθε ἐν δόξῃ. Νεκρώσατε οὖν τὰ μέλη ὑμῶν τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,

πορνείαν, ἀκαθαρσίαν, πάθος, ἐπιθυμίαν κακήν, καὶ τὴν πλεονεξίαν, ἥτις ἐστὶν εἰδωλολατρεία, διʼ ἃ ἔρχεται ἡ ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῆς ἀπειθείας· Ἐν οἷς καὶ ὑμεῖς περιεπατήσατέ ποτε, ὅτε ἐζῆτε ἐν αὐτοῖς. Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers. Verse: For you are just in all you have done.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 3:4-11

Brethren, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.

Εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος τήν παραβολὴν ταύτην· Ἄνθρωπός τις ἐποίησε δεῖπνον μέγα καὶ ἐκάλεσε πολλούς· καὶ ἀπέστειλε τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ δείπνου εἰπεῖν τοῖς κεκλημένοις· ἔρχεσθε, ὅτι ἤδη ἕτοιμά ἐστι πάντα. καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀπὸ

The Lord said this parable: "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who

had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the

city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' And the servant said, 'Sir, what you commanded has been done, and there is still room.' And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen.'"

Dear Parents,

We would like to thank you for bringing the children to

us on Sunday mornings. We are working hard to bring

Christ and His teachings to our new generation. If you should have any questions, or

concerns, please feel free to speak to us on Sunday mornings. At this time, we are

enclosing the schedule that we will follow for the next few weeks. We have also

attached an offering envelope for the Sunday School.

SAINT OF THE DAY: Dionysius of Zakynthos The holy hierarch, Saint Dionysius, who was born and reared on Zakynthos, was the son of pious and wealthy parents, Mocius and Paulina by name. In his youth he entered the ancient monastery of the Strophada Islands, which lie south of Zakynthos, and there he donned the monastic habit. Later, he was appointed

Archbishop of Aegina, and adorned its throne for a considerable time. Thereafter he returned to his homeland. One incident in his life especially reveals to what virtue he attained. A man came to him in desperation, witnessing that he had committed a murder, and was being pursued by the slain man's family. He asked Saint Dionysius to give him refuge. The Saint agreed to this, upon learning that it was his own brother whom the man had slain, he said nothing, but concealing the agony of his grief, hid him. When the Saint's kinsmen arrived at the monastery, he told them that the Murderer had gone by such and such a way. When they had departed, he admonished the man concerning the gravity of his sin, instructed him in repentance, and sent him off in peace having forgiven him his brother's murder. According to local tradition, this man later returned and became a monk at this same monastery. Saint Dionysius reposed in peace in 1621, leaving behind his sacred and incorrupt relics as a treasure for his fellow citizens.

Τής Ζακύνθου τόv γόνον καί Αιγίvης τόν πρόεδρον, τόv φρουρόν μονής τώv Στροφάδωv, Διοvύσιοv

άπαντες, τιμήσωμεv συμφώνως οι πιστοί, βοώντες πρός αυτόν ειλικριvώς, σαίς λιταίς τούς τήv σήν

μνήμην επιτελούντας σώζε καί βοβώντάς σοι, Δόξα τώ σέ δοξάσαντι Χριστώ, δόξα τώ σέ θαυμαστώσαντι,

δόξα τώ δωρησαμένω σε ημίv, πρέσβυν ακοίμητον.

Ο Άγιος Διονύσιος γεννήθηκε το 1547 μ.Χ. στο χωριό Αιγιαλός της Ζακύνθου. Το κατά κόσμον όνομά του ήταν Δραγανίγος ή Γραδενίγος Σιγούρος (ή Σηκούρο). Η οικογενειά του ήταν εύπορη και κατείχε μεγάλη έκταση γης, ενώ οι γονείς του συμμετέχοντας στους πολέμους των Βενετών κατά των Τούρκων απέκτησαν και αριστοκρατικό ιδίωμα. Ο πατέρας του λεγόταν Μώκιος και η μητέρα του Παυλίνα, ενώ είχε άλλα δύο αδέλφια τον Κωνσταντίνο και τη Σιγούρα. Ο Άγιος Διονύσιος, ανατράφηκε με τα διδάγματα του Ευαγγελίου. Έτσι γρήγορα διακρίθηκε στα γράμματα και την αρετή. Νωρίς, μόλις ενηλικιώθηκε, ασχολήθηκε με τη διδασκαλία του θείου λόγου, φροντίζοντας συγχρόνως να συντρέχει στην ανακούφιση των φτωχών. Κατόπιν έγινε μοναχός στη βασιλική Μονή των Στροφάδων, παίρνοντας το όνομα Δανιήλ, όπου ασκήθηκε στην αγρυπνία, την εγκράτεια και τη μελέτη των Γραφών. Αργότερα ο Διονύσιος, θα χριστεί ιερέας παρά τις αρχικές του επιφυλάξεις λόγω της βαριάς ευθύνης της ιεροσύνης, από τον επίσκοπο Κεφαληνίας και Ζακύνθου, Θεόφιλο. Έπειτα, το 1577 μ.Χ., πήγε στην Αθήνα, για να βρει καράβι προκειμένου να ταξιδέψει στα Ιεροσόλυμα. Αλλά ο τότε αρχιερέας των Αθηνών, Νικάνορας, άκουσε κάποια Κυριακή το λαμπρό του κήρυγμα και μετά από πολλές παρακλήσεις τον έκανε επίσκοπο Αιγίνης, με την επίσημη κατόπιν έγκριση της Εκκλησίας Κωνσταντινούπολης, δίνοντας του το όνομα Διονύσιος. Τα ποιμαντικά του καθήκοντα, επιτέλεσε άγρυπνα και άοκνα. Αναδείχτηκε διδάσκαλος, πατέρας και παιδαγωγός του ποιμνίου του. Η φήμη του είχε διαδοθεί παντού, αλλά αυτός παρέμενε απλός και ταπεινός.Ασθένησε όμως από τους πολλούς κόπους και παραιτήθηκε. Γύρισε στη Ζάκυνθο, όπου μέχρι το 1579 μ.Χ. ήταν προσωρινός επίσκοπος. Μετά αποσύρθηκε στη Μονή της Θεοτόκου της Αναφωνητρίας, όπου ασκήτευε και με αγάπη κήρυττε και βοηθούσε τους κατοίκους του νησιού. Οι οικογένειες Σιγούρου και Μονδίνου από διασωθέντα έγγραφα που ανάγονται στα αρχεία της Βενετίας, φαίνεται να είχαν θανάσιμο μίσος. Συμπλοκές μεταξύ των δυο οικογενειών συνέβαιναν διαρκώς. Σε μια από αυτές ο αδελφός του Αγίου, Κωνσταντίνος, δολοφονήθηκε. Στην προσπάθεια όμως να διαφύγει ο δολοφονός του Κωνσταντίνου αναζήτησε καταφύγιο στο μοναστήρι που βρισκόταν ο Άγιος, χωρίς όμως να γνωρίζει τη συγγένεια. Όταν ο δολοφόνος έφτασε στη Μονή, ερωτήθη από τον Διονύσιο, που ήταν ο ηγούμενος της Μονής, γιατί ζητεί καταφύγιο, αφού κανονικά δεν επιτρέπετο να εισέλθει. Ο ίδιος απάντησε πως τον κυνηγούσαν οι Σιγούροι, ενώ μετά από διαρκείς ερωτήσεις ομολόγησε πως δολοφόνησε τον Κωνσταντίνο Σιγούρο. Ο Διονύσιος παρά τη θλίψη του, όχι μόνο έκρυψε τον δολοφόνο αλλά και τον φυγάδευσε. Έτσι με αυτόν τρόπο κατάφερε να αποτρέψει ένα ακόμα έγκλημα και ταυτόχρονα να δώσει τη δυνατότητα μετανοίας στον δολοφόνο, παρά την πικρία για το χαμό του αδελφού του, δίνοντας ένα παράδειγμα συγχωρητικότητας και υψηλής εφαρμογής των Χριστιανικών ιδεωδών. Για τον λόγο μάλιστα αυτό ονομάστηκε και «Άγιος της Συγνώμης». Ο Διονύσιος πέθανε σε βαθιά γεράματα, 17 Δεκεμβρίου 1622 μ.Χ. Τάφηκε στη Μονή Στροφάδων και κατά την εκταφή το λείψανό του βγήκε ευωδιαστό και αδιάφθορο.
