12:00’ CLOSER CAPITAL MARKETS TIES IN THE SEE REGION?As the cost of finance has risen while econom-ic conditions have remained weak SMEs, are forced not only to alter their funding mix but also involve capital markets as an alternative to bank lending. However, effective capital raising through equity or debt issuance via the capital markets involves a coordinated ef-fort from the ecosystem (legal firms, brokers, investment bankers, consultants) and the ex-changes to reduce costs and increase efficien-cy. In order to develop their junior markets a more unified approach is needed to bring together companies, investors and markets. This is a great challenge for SE Europe coun-tries, especially as the Capital Markets Union action plan unveils, to facilitate cross-border investments and increase regional SMEs at-tractiveness. The SEE Link that will facilitate cross-border listing, the use of junior markets for smaller companies, the listed funds ap-proach which invest in non-listed SMEs and the developing of post-trading links between CSDs are some of the ways to revive the re-gional capital markets and their ties.
