Aero Phenyl B iguan ide—MBT Salt (phenyl biguanide salt of mercaptobenzothiazole) forms stable complexes with many meta l ions, t h u s making it a useful metal deact ivator and antioxidant. I t s value has already been demonst ra ted in many instances where i t was desirable to tie u p trace a m o u n t s of metals. Small amoun t s of this salt re ta rd the rancidification of soaps, act as an ant ioxidant in gasoline, and stabilize some light sensitive polymers. Its full range of utility, however , is yet to be realized.

T h e Phenyl B iguan ide—MBT Salt should be included in any development program where the elimination of the effects of metallic contamination is desired.

Phenyl Biguanide Hydrochloride and O-Tolyl Biguanide Hydrochloride are available in semi-commercial quanti t ies for use in organic syntheses. Phenyl Biguanide, for example, reac ts with acid chlorides, amides, and esters t o yield substituted guanamines (2,4-diamino—1,3,5-triazines) and with active ketones to form diamino—dihydro—1,3,5-triazines. Phenyl B iguan ide—MBT Salt is available in semi-commercial quant i t ies . I t is a yellow powder, soluble in hot water, dioxane, and methy l cellosolve. I t is slightly soluble in acetone and ethyl and isopropyl alcohols, and insoluble in benzene and carbon tetrachloride.
