Big increase in Russian tourists to Costa Brava expected this summerSpain is preparing itself for a massive influx of Russian tourists this summer with the majority of them staying in Catalonia. 61 percent of the million Russians expected to travel to Spain are headed for Catalonia and many of these will stay on the Costa Brava.

In the Costa Brava the number of tourists from Russia is expected to surge 50 percent compared with 2012, headed for

Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Platja d’Aro, flying into both Barcelona airport as well as Girona.

2,400 charter flights will reportedly bring in Russians from Moscow and St Petersburg and according to AENA, the Spanish airport operator, Russians spend an average of €25 per person in airport shops, mainly on alcohol and perfume.

Palafrugell says goodbye to British writer Tom SharpePalafrugell offered their condolences over the death at the age 85 of Tom Sharpe, the British satirical novelist and author of the Wilt series, who had been living in the region for over 15 years.

The first deputy mayor of Palafrugell, Albert Gómez, held a joint press conference with the writer’s widow, Nancy Sharpe, his doctor, and the director of the Hotel Llevant, where he stayed for four spells before finally purchasing a home in Llafranc.Albert Gómez noted Sharpe’s “corrosive, acid humor to position himself against that which he found unfair.”

Nancy Sharpe, a US citizen, explained that “the family is very happy that Tom found this place; it was very good for him, he loved to live here, first in the hotel and then in his own home. He died in the least cruel way, and we are happy for him; he was a person who loved the light, the Mediterranean and the sun.”

Sharpe explained how he came to live in Catalonia. “A few years ago I came to Barcelona for a press conference, and I took the opportunity to ask my publisher and my agent if they knew of a little hotel where I might rest for a few days. They recommended Hotel Llevant, here on the Costa Brava. I spent a few days there with my wife. The next year I spent a month. The year after that, two months. I spent up to five months out of the year at the hotel.”

The head of the hotel, Carme Farrarons, explained that Sharpe first stayed at her establishment in the early 1990s in the company of his agent. Llafranc was “love

at first sight,” she said. Farrarons also described Sharpe as “a very disciplined” person who devoted the entire day to his work.

His physician, Montserrat Verdaguer, said that Sharpe died “calmly” and revealed that he had been working on an autobiography. Besides his Wilt books, the writer is also known for his earlier works, Riotous Assembly and Indecent Exposure, both set in South Africa, where he lived as a young man.Sharpe was nearly taken by peritonitis in 2006, but he survived, and he dedicated his next novel, The Gropes, to the Catalan team of doctors who treated him. He also publicly described the Catalan health system as “marvelous” and asserted that had he been treated in England, “I might be dead right now.”

L’incendie de l’Empordà: 10 millions d’arbres seront replantés d’ici 2015 dans le secteur sinistréLe gigantesque incendie déclenché le 22 juillet 2012 dans la région de l’Alt Empordà, a provoqué 143 millions d’euros de dégâts sur des forêts, champs et pâtures. Une évaluation définitive communiquée le 20 mai par le gouvernement catalan chiffre à 94 millions les pertes occasionnées sur les ressources en liège, le bois de chauffage, les pommes de pin et les zones affectées aux troupeaux. Les 49 millions d’euros restants sont imputables aux pertes environnementales, auxquelles seul le temps, donnant la possibilité à la nature de reprendre ses droits, est la solution.

Ce 20 mai, en visite de terrain, de la commune de La Jonquera à celle de Darnius, durement touchées par le sinistre, le conseiller de l’Agriculture du gouvernement catalan, Josep Maria Pelegrí, a évoqué une situation «irrémédiable», mais a lancé un message d’espoir. Selon lui, le drame de 2012 et la réparation actuelle sont utiles, car ils permettront que cette situation «ne se reproduise plus». Ce dommage à l’environnement de la province de Girona, qui porte sur 10.500 hectares, fait ainsi l’objet

d’un plan de 3,6 millions d’euros financé par les gouvernements catalan et espagnol afin de rétablir les paysages malmenés et les activités pastorales et agricoles dédiées. Le nettoyage de 140 km de chemins forestiers est lancé, associé à l’évacuation du bois calciné, tandis que 10 millions d’arbres seront progressivement plantés d’ici 2015, dans une région où la verdure revient, grâce aux conditions climatiques de l’automne 2012 et du printemps 2013.

L’immobilier de luxe est à Sitges et Sant Feliu de GuíxolsLa mauvaise passe traversée par le marché immobilier n’empêche pas les offres surprenantes en Catalogne, où l’agence barcelonaise Habitaclia propose 5 % de biens d’une valeur de plus d’un million d’euros, concentrés dans les régions du Baix Empordà et du Garraf. Sitges, Sant Feliu de Guíxols ou Tossa de Mar sont les communes où le luxe abonde le plus.

Selon la tendance européenne, le marché immobilier sud-catalan espère des jours meilleurs, mais une donnée significative est fournie par une étude réalisée selon le volume d’offres dont dispose la société Habitaclia. Ce réseau fondé à Barcelone, dont la zone de service s’étend aux quatre provinces de Catalogne du Sud, présentait le 29 mai un total de 2,7 % d’offres concernant des logements dépassant le million d’euros. Dans les détails, les régions les plus chères sont le Baix Empordà, qui comprend les communes littorales de Pals, Tossa de Mar et Sant Feliu de Guíxols, ainsi que le Garraf, dont la ville principale est Sitges, au Sud de Barcelone. Dans ces secteurs, les villas

dépassant le million d’euros sont au nombre de 5 %, tandis que la ville de Sant Cugat del Vallès, dans la proche banlieue Nord-Ouest de Barcelone, présente une proportion similaire.

Au-delà des observations générales par secteurs géographiques, les exceptions locales sont de mise, car l’agence Habitaclia propose une villa de 14 millions d’euros, comprenant 7 salles de bain, à Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, au Nord de Barcelone, dans le secteur côtier du Maresme. Une maison de 7,5 millions cherche preneur à Sant Feliu de Guíxols, tandis qu’une autre, situé dans le quartier de Pedralbes, à Barcelone, est disponible pour 7 millions.

Gran Jonquera attire 100.000 clients en quatre joursLe centre commercial «Gran Jonquera Outlet & Shopping», étalé sur 12.000 m2 en bordure d’autoroute et à 38 km de Perpignan, a effectué un démarrage d’activité en flèche, le 16 mai, avec un résultat moyen de 25.000 visiteurs par jour. Ce site doit fonctionner à plein régime en 2014, après l’arrivée de 11 nouvelles enseignes.

Ce forum de la consommation inauguré le 16 mai sur des airs de Charles Trenet et Edith Piaf déploie une fine stratégie comportant une cartographie Internet de ses 70 boutiques. Son directeur, Pablo Vivancos, y signale une forte présence française, accompagnée d’embouteillages de véhicules en provenance des Pyrénées-Orientales, sur l’autoroute AP-7. Le public se presse aux «buffets libres» du site, autorisé à ouvrir ses portes tous les jours de l’année sans aucune interruption, de 7 heures du matin jusqu’à 1 heure du matin pour ses restaurants, aptes à recevoir 800 personnes. Cette surface de boutiques «outlet», à compétitivité supérieure aux rivaux «Salanca», au Nord de Perpignan, et Porte d’Espagne, au Sud, dispose de 50 enseignes, pour un taux de remplissage des locaux disponibles de 75%. D’ici la fin de l’année, 11 nouveaux magasins prendront place dans cet ensemble, qui emploie 400 persones, en vise 550 en 2014 et a été porté par un investissement de 10 millions d’euros. Le baptême de Gran Jonquera, en présence de son créateur, Antonio Escudero et de l’un de ses amis

personnels, l’ancien ministre socialiste espagnol de la Défense José Bono, a comporté la présence du ministre-conseiller de l’Entreprise et de l’Emploi catalan, Felip Puig. Dans son allocation, ce dernier a défendu les valeurs du “modèle commercial catalan (...) qui trouve son équilibre entre le commerce de proximité et les grandes surfaces, entre les grands groupes et les entrepreneurs locaux”, tandis que la mairesse de la Jonquera, Sònia Martínez, saluait le fait que ce centre commercial des temps nouveaux soit issu du “capital local”.Argent sale: hausse de 139 % entre l’Andorre et

Les étrangers dépensent 11 % de plus en CatalogneL’année 2013 a débuté sous d’excellents auspices économiques pour le secteur du tourisme catalan, selon un bilan de la période comprise entre les mois de janvier et avril, présenté le 27 mai par le ministère espagnol de l’Industrie, de l’Energie et du Tourisme. La fréquentation touristique et les dépenses effectuées par les visiteurs ont manifesté une nette amélioration qui présage d’un renouveau, à l’issue de cinq années de crise. % pour atteindre 110 euros par jour, en comparaison avec 2012.Parmi nationalités les plus intéressantes en matière de retombées concrètes en Espagne, de janvier à avril, les britanniques occupent la première place, correspondant à 17,2 % du total. Ils sont suivis des Allemands, des habitants des Pays du Nord puis des Français. Cependant, les visiteurs italiens, bien que présents, ont dépensé 19,1% de moins qu’en 2012.

De moord gebeurde na een ruzie in de badplaats Sant Pere Pescador toen de relatie tussen Imandt en Sabrina Tverbouss-Twerdy al niet meer goed was.

Bij een woordenwisseling sloegen die bewuste dag de stoppen door bij Daniel Imandt en raakte hij in een

messengevecht met zijn vriendin die tevens een mes had getrokken. Tijdens dit gevecht stak Daniel zijn vriendin neer en liet hij haar urenlang op de grond liggen alvorens haar in vier stukken te snijden en de zakken met lichamelijke resten weg te gooien. Grootse plannen voor kunstmatig eiland Barcelona luchtkasteel?Erik Morvan is de winnaar van een wedstrijd rond het ontwerp van het eiland dat als doelgroep ‘mensen die naar andere universa willen reizen’ heeft. Volgens Jerome Bottari, directeur van Mobilona, komt er een hotel van 300 meter hoog met 2.000 luxe suites en appartementen, een jachthaven, een ‘zero-gravity spa’, een ‘vertical wind-tunnel’ en een ‘24 hours space mall’, wat dat ook moge zijn.

De verkoopprijs van de appartementen begint bij 495.000 euro tot 2,6 miljoen euro. Penthouses gaan vanaf 3,9 tot 20 miljoen euro. Voor een overnachting in het luxe hotel gelden prijzen tussen 300 en 1.500 euro.

Isla Barcelona heeft al een website, waarop alles piekfijn staat uitgelegd. Het kunstmatige eiland komt - als het aan de initiatiefnemers ligt - voor de kust van de Catalaanse hoofdstad.

Volgens Bottari is er contact met diverse personen bij de gemeente, de Catalaanse

overheid en de centrale overheid in Madrid. Op het blog LaBlog over leisure & arts in steden en gebieden schrijft Erik Grootscholte dat burgemeester Xavier Trias al heeft gezegd ‘geen intentie te hebben om Barcelona in een spektakel te veranderen’.

Luchtkasteel of niet, een kijkje nemen op de website van Isla Barcelona vormt in elk geval voor even een leuk tijdverdrijf.

In Girona had de Triodos bank al meer dan 5.000 klanten die nu dus niet meer hun bankzaken via internet hoeven af te handelen of naar Barcelona moeten reizen om een echte bank binnen te wandelen.

De directeur van Triodos hoop op deze manier dichter bij de klanten te kunnen zijn en op dezelfde manier te kunnen groeien in de regio. Volgens Esteban Barroso zijn er in de provincie Girona meer

dan genoeg milieu, culturele en sociale projecten om in te investeren.

De Triodos bank is sinds 2004 aanwezig in Spanje, een van de Europese landen waar het aantal klanten het meest is gestegen de laatste jaren met jaarlijkse percentages tussen de 50% en 70% meer klanten.

Op dit moment heeft de van oorsprong Nederlandse Triodos bank meer dan 125.000 klanten in Spanje waarvan 30% te vinden is in Catalonië. In totaal heeft Triodos 16 kantoren waar samen 200 mensen werken.

Gratis eten in ruil voor twee uur werkHeb je geen baan en geen geld, maar wel tijd, dan kun je uit eten bij restaurant La Trobada in Terrassa in ruil voor twee uur van je tijd. In deze twee uur kun je in het zelfde restaurant in de bediening werken, afwassen of schoonmaken.

La Trobada is ruim een maand geopend op intiatief van een gemeentelijke hulpinstelling tegen sociale uitsluiting (ALEI) waar 29 stichtingen bij zijn betrokken. Mensen die langer dan twee jaar zonder baan zitten en geen recht meer hebben op enige vorm van uitkering kunnen hier terecht voor een koolhydraat-rijke maaltijd.

De tijd-cliënten, zoals ze worden genoemd, worden gestuurd door de kerkelijke hulpinstantie Caritas en door de lokale sociale dienst. Men mag maximaal drie maanden in La Trobada

eten in ruil voor tijd. Het idee is dat de helft van de klanten bestaat uit tijd-cliënten en de andere helft betaalt 6,50 euro voor een dagmenu.

Voor de tijd-cliënten vormt de betrokkenheid bij het restaurant weer een sociale impuls. Ze komen in contact met mensen die er komen en betalen voor hun eten, met soortgenoten en doen werkervaring op. Daarbij krijgen de langdurig werklozen door hun betrokkenheid bij het project weer een gevoel van nut en optimisme.

In Spanje schieten initiatieven als tijdbanken (bancos del tiempo) en andere vormen van ruilhandel als paddestoelen uit de grond, nu de effecten van de crisis zo hard om zich heen slaan. Ook zijn er talloze alternatieve munten in omloop.

Nederlander opgepakt in Cadaqués vanwege fotograferen onder rokjes van meisjesDe Spaanse politie heeft vorige week woensdag een 38-jarige Nederlander opgepakt omdat hij met zijn mobiele telefoon foto’s maakte onder de rokjes van minderjarige meisjes. De man wordt aangeklaagd voor kinderporno.

De politie had een melding gekregen over de activiteiten van de man op een plein in de plaats Cadaqués. Hij werd

meegenomen naar het politiebureau waar zijn telefoon en laptop werden onderzocht. Daar werd, naast de foto’s van de meisjes, ook een grote hoeveelheid video’s met kinderporno gevonden.

De man zit vast. Hij wordt binnenkort voorgeleid aan een rechter.

TIPS VAN DE DOKTER

GENIET VAN DE ZON MAAR VOORKOM VERBRANDEN!Eindelijk op vakantie, lekker naar het strand, en een beetje bruin worden. U heeft er lang naar uitgekeken, en nu is het dan zover. Maar hoe voorkom je dat het witte huidje van de winter in plaats van mooi bruin ineens knalrood wordt?Voor vrijwel iedereen geldt, dat elke dag een beetje zon juist goed is. De huid maakt vitamine D aan en zon geeft ook energie. Maar teveel zon kan al snel leiden tot een forse verbranding van de huid, of zelfs een zonnesteek. En heel veel zon verhoogt de kans op huidkanker op latere leeftijd.Hieronder enkele tips waarmee een verbranding voorkomen kan worden.1. Vermijd directe blootstelling aan de zon op het heetst van de dag tussen 1 en 4 uur. De zon staat dan op zijn hoogst en de stralen zijn het felst. Als u dan toch graag op het strand bent, gebruik dan in ieder geval een parasol, en een goed zonnebrandmiddel met een hoge beschermingsfactor van 30 of meer.2. Smeer u regelmatig in, liefst iedere 2 uur.3. Aangebroken flessen die ouder zijn verliezen hun werkzaamheid. Gebruik geen zonnebrandmiddelen, die ouder zijn dan 1 jaar.4. Bouw de tijd die u in de zon doorbrengt langzaam op; de eerste dag 15 minuten en dan langzaam omhoog. Dat vermindert de kans op zonnebrand en op zonneallergie.5. Als u vaak gaat zwemmen, moet u ook vaker smeren. Met een waterproof zonnebrand, kan men wel 2 of 3x het water in, maar daarna is het meeste toch weggespoeld.6. Ook als het bewolkt is, of als u onder de parasol zit kunt u verbranden. Gebruik dus ook dan een beschermend middel.7. Vergeet niet de lippen, neus en ogen te beschermen.Wat te doen als u toch verbrand bent in de zon?Bij een milde zonnebrand kunt u koude tot lauwwarme compressen nemen ter afkoeling van de verbrande huid. Bij de apotheek kunt u ook verschillende middelen kopen tegen de verbranding, bijv op basis van aloe vera, of sterkere met medicijnen bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van een schuim (espuma). Hiervan zijn er heel veel. Ook kan paracetamol of ibuprofen helpen voor de pijn.KADER:

Enkele tips voor onze kleintjes:Voor baby’s tot circa 1 jaar is zonlicht ongezond. Ze hebben een hele gevoelige huid en verbranden snel. Alle delen van de huid moeten goed beschermd worden, door katoenen kleding, een zonnehoed of petje en een parasol. Houd ze het liefst in de schaduw, maar ook dan geldt nog dat ze goed ingesmeerd moeten worden. Liefst met een zonnebrandmiddel van minstens factor 30. Ook hebben baby’s sneller last van oververhitting en uitdroging. Dus geef ze tussendoor iets extra’s om te drinken. Blijven ze huilen, hebben ze hoge koorts, of worden ze suf, raadpleeg dan een dokter.Kinderen tussen 1 en 3 jaar kunnen een beetje zon verdragen, maar blijf heel voorzichtig, goed beschermen en niet te lang in de zon.Wanneer moet u contact opnemen met een dokter?- U moet direct contact opnemen met de dokter bij hevige klachten passend bij een zonnesteek, zoals extreme zwakte of duizeligheid, een versnelde pols of versnelde ademhaling, extreme dorst of wegblijven van de urineproductie, hoge koorts boven de 40 graden, een zieke indruk, een bleke, koude, of klamme huid, koude rillingen, misselijkheid, fors pijnlijke ogen, die geen licht kunnen verdragen en de vorming van grote blaren op de huid.- Bij minder ernstige klachten en andere vragen kunt u binnen 24 uur een afspraak maken.Hopelijk komt het allemaal niet zover en kunt u deze zomer met volle teugen genieten van zon en zee!
