Comment The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) featured a steep rise today amidst inves-tors' enthusiastic participation. Today most of the sectors witnessed positive returns reflecting new hopes. The market started the day's session positively and its upward trend continued till closure without any fluctuation. Today, there were 190 gainers, 155 losers while 22 issues were unchanged. The total market capitalization stood at BDT 3,467.09 billion and total turnover reached at BDT 14,481.53 million. The Banking sector lost 0.78% reaching 16.6% of the total market capitaliza-tion. Most of the issues closed negative from the sector. NBFI sector gained 3.83% reaching 6.2% of the total market capitalization. Investment Corpora-tion Of Bangladesh Limited (ICB) was the highest gainer from the sector with a gain of 10.0%. ICB also became the top gainer today. Bangladesh Building Systems Ltd. (BBS) from Engineering sector became the top traded share fol-lowed by Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd. (DESCO) & Bangladesh Export Import Company Ltd. (BEXIMCO).

Macro News Corporate tax payment climbs up in July-Oct Corporate tax payments by most large companies went up significantly in the first four months of the current fiscal, with four private commercial banks and three mobile companies topping the list. Official sources said the seven companies paid the highest amount of corporate income tax in the July-October period of the fiscal year (FY) 2016-17 among top 50 taxpayers under the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). HSBC, UCB, Standard Chartered and Citi Bank NA are the four banks among the top ten large taxpayers while Grameenphone, Robi Axiata Limited and Banglalink are the three mobile-phone operators. The others among the top-ten corporate taxpayers are Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Limited, US-based Chevron Oil and Gas company and American Life Insurance Company. GP paid the highest amount of corpo-rate income tax worth Tk 2.20 billion in the July-October period of FY 2016-17. However, the company paid Tk 661 million in FY 2015-16. Banglalink also paid higher amount worth Tk 264 million against Tk 247 million in the same period in 2015-16. New rules to run Grameen Bank soon: Finance Minister The government is working out new rules for a resurrected Grameen Bank (GB) to run in a new style, abolish-ing weekly loan-repayment system. FM said the bank needs to be recast and that work is going on to do so. He said the need for weekly payment system in GB is now over. "It was necessary to create habit among peo-ple that money has to be given back if taken. The habit is already developed." The minister noted that the formation of GB had two goals: making credit available to the poor as their right, and regularising the habit of repayment. The two are already established. Now there are so many programmes like what GB is doing. Sector News Textile ETL The Company will be placed in 'A' category from existing 'N' category with effect from January 03, 2017 as the Company has reported disbursement of 10% cash dividend and 20% Stock dividend for the 18 months period ended on June 30, 2016. Engineering BDLAMPS Emerging Credit Rating Limited (ECRL) has assigned the surveillance rating of the Company as "A+" in the long term and "ECRL-2" in the short term along with a stable outlook to the Company based on financials of the Company up to June 30, 2016 and other relevant quantitative and qualitative information up to the date of rating declaration. SALAMCRST As per Regulation 16(1) of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (Listing) Regulations, 2015, the Company has informed that a meeting of the Board of Directors will be held on January 7, 2017 at 12:30 PM to consider, among oth-ers, un-audited financial statements of the Company for the Second Quarter (Q2) period ended on December 31, 2016.
