The man had been receiving interferon-α-2b and ribavirin for 7.5 weeks when he began to lose muscular tone in his face and forehead. MRI showed mild enhancement of his left facial nerve, consistent with Bell’s palsy. Therapy was discontinued and his symptoms resolved over the following 2 months. Six months later, interferon-α-2b and ribavirin were reinstated for 12 weeks with no recurrence of Bell’s palsy; however, treatment was discontinued due to a lack of viral response. The woman had been receiving interferon-α-2b and ribavirin for 8 weeks when therapy was discontinued due to the development of herpes simplex virus stomatitis and right- sided Bell’s palsy. MRI revealed mild enhancement of her right facial nerve. She was treated with prednisone and her symptoms markedly improved. Hwang I, et al. Bell’s Palsy.
