Because it is extremely hygroscopic, Dicol makes an excellent humectant or softening agent for cigarette to­bacco, transparent cellulosic sheets, glue, composition cork, inedible gela­tin, casein and paper. It serves as a solvent for certain resins, vegetable

oils and dyes. It is used to advantage in hydraulic fluids, in softening textile fibers and as an intermediate for a Ikyd type resins.
