Multi-Parametric Monitoring & Intelligent Modeling of the Metabolic Status in

Diabetic Patients

The problem of diabetic mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by a cellular-mediated autoimmune destruction of the β-cells in the pancreas: absolute deficiency of insulin secretion elevated blood glucose.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a combination of resistance to insulin action and relative insulin deficiency.

The chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes is associated with long-term microvascular and macrovascular complications.

The idea of METABO system

METABO system aims to set up a comprehensive platform running in every day life environments for continuous and multi- parametric monitoring of

the metabolic status of patients with diabetes disease and the provision of advanced decision support.

The idea of METABO system

METABO provides T1D and T2D patients with a set of tools to:

provide training and education,

manage their data,

improve their knowledge about disease and themselves,

assume more responsibility in their own care,

connect to doctors and the Health Care System,

increase their security, control and freedom of choice.

METABO system architecture

Patient Mobile Device: It is connected with peripheral sensors and devices and contains tools

& interfaces for manual data input, data analysis, visualization and feedback.

Control Panel: Complete data management environment for doctors to evaluate patient’s

performance and prescribe personalized treatment.

Central System: It hosts all patient’s databases and manages communication with doctor’s

control panel and patient’s mobile.
