ESIM is part of the educational programme of theEuropean Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM),which has 35 Member National, or AffiliatedSocieties of Internal Medicine.Professor Jaime Merino founded ESIM in 1997 inAlicante, Spain. The school moved to Portugal(2006-2008), the UK (2009-2011), Turkey (2012-2013) and now Italy (2014-16). A winter School wasalso started in 2011.
