ΓΕΥΜΑ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΙΚΗΣ ΣΧΟΛΗΣ 5/7/09

Με επιτυχία έγινε και εφέτος το γεύµα για τηνΘεολογική µας Σχολή την Κυριακή 5 Ιουλίου 2009.Περισσότερα από 250 άτοµα παρεκάθησανστο γεύµα µετά το τέλος της Θείας Λειτουργίαςκαι είχαν ευχάριστες µεσηµεριανές ώρες,µε άφθονο και πλούσιο φαγητό.Το καθαρό ποσό που συγκεντρώθηκε απότην εκδήλωση αυτή ($1,978.20) εστάλει διατου Θεοφιλεστάτου Επισκόπου µαςκ. ΝΙΚΑΝ∆ΡΟΥ στην Θεολογική µας Σχολήστο Σύδνεϋ. Ευχαριστούµε εγκάρδια όλουςπου συµµετείχαν στο γεύµα και βοήθησανοικονοµικά το έργο της Θεολογικής µας Σχολής.Θερµές ευχαριστίες στα µέλη των ∆. ΣυµβουλίωνΚοινότητος και Φιλοπτώχου για την εργασίακαι προσφορά τους στην εκδήλωση αυτή.

ΠΡΟΣΚΥΝΗΜΑΤΙΚΗ ΕΚ∆ΡΟΜΗΣΤΟ BERRI 22 ΚΑΙ 23 ΑΥΓΟΥΣΤΟΥ

Το ∆. Συµβούλιο της Φιλοπτώχου αδελφότητάς µας διοργάνωσε και εφέτος την καθιερωµένη από πολλώνετών Προσκυνηµατική εκδροµή στο Berri Σάββατο 22 και Κυριακή 23 Αυγούστουµε την ευκαιρίατης απόδοσις της εορτής της Κοιµήσεως της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου. Το λεωφορείο ξεκίνησε το Σάββατοτο πρωΐ µε πενήντα προσκηνητές για το Berri. Μετά από δύο στάσεις για καφέ και ξεκούραση φθάσαµεστο Berri και έγινε τακτοποίηση στο Ξενοδοχείο. Στη συνέχεια επισκεφθήκαµε το Ελληνικό οινοποιείοστο Renmark και αφού όλοι δοκίµασαν τα διάφορα κρασιά, έκαναν και τις απαιτούµενες προµήθειες.Στις 6.00 µ.µ., στον Ιερό Ναό της Κοιµήσεως ετελέσθηκε ο Εσπερινός και µετά τον Εσπερινό επιστέψαµεστο Ξενοδοχείο για το βαδυνό φαγητό. Κατά την διάρκεια του φαγητού ευχήθηκαν όλοι τα χρόνια πολλάστην αντιπρόεδρο της Φιλοπτώχου µας κα Μαρία Παλτόγλου η οποία είχε τα γενέλθιά της. Την άλλη ηµέραΚυριακή ετελέσθηκε πανηγυρική Θεία Λειτουργία από τον π. ∆ηµήτριο και π. ∆ιογένη και στην συνέχειαακολούθησε το Πανηγύρι στο προαύλειο της Εκκλησίας. Το απόγευµα πήραµε τον δρόµο της επιστροφής.Όλοι που συµµετείχαν στην εκδροµή πέρασαν δυο ευχάριστες και αξέχαστες µέρες. Ευχαριστούµε όλουςγια την συµµετοχή τους και ευχόµεθα η Υπεραγία Θεοτόκος να χαρίζει σε όλους υγεία και κάθε χαράκαι ευλογία. Εγκάρδιες ευχαριστίες στον Γιώργο Καράπαπα (Τζαµά) που µας διακέδασε κατά την διάρκειατης διαδροµής µε τα αστεία του και το χιούµορ.

As a community we have much to be proud of with the establishment of St.George College and its continued growth and extensive achievements. The roleof the Board of Governors has been of critical importance in constantlyresponding to the needs and aspirations of our students and the ever-changingeducational landscape

In rounding off the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the College (1983-2008) theCommunity and Parish of Saint George, at a special function, acknowledged thesignificant role that past Board Members have made to the success of St. GeorgeCollege over the last 25 years.

In recognizing the significant contributions made by former Board Members,we acknowledge the late Mr. Basil Taliangis who served as Chairman, Board ofGovernors for 21 years and the Board for 25 years. Basil was a tireless andpassionate advocate of the College.During this period,MrTaliangis oversaw thedevelopment of a number of capital work programmes at the Junior and Seniorcampuses. In appreciation of his efforts, on behalf of Father Diogenis and theExecutive Committee a Plaque and Certificate of Appreciation in recognitionof his unwavering commitment to St. George College was presented to Mrs.Taliangis.

The Community acknowledged Mr. Dim Georgiadis, who was DeputyChairman and together with Jim Tsagouris served on the Board of Governorsfor over 20 years – they were presented with a Plaque and Certificate ofAppreciation in recognition of their commitment to St. George College. Thecontributions of Professor Michael Tsianikas & Barry Paraskeva were alsoacknowledged.

The Chairman of the Board and President of the Community, Mr EvanChristou welcomed the new Board Members:Tony Michaels, Financial Planner;Peter Pilouras, Solicitor; Bill Gonis, Physiotherapist; and Tim Tsarouhas,Architect. It is highlighted that Peter and Bill are former students of theCollege. They join the existing Members of the Board - Very Rev DiogeniosPatsouris, Evan Christou, Presvytera Anna Patsouris, Lambros Lambros, ConKatsambis, Michael Michaels, Paul Kassapidis, George Kouzionis and PrincipalGeorge Panagopoulos.

The Community is proud of the achievements of Saint George College duringthe first 25 years and looks forward to the golden jubilee!

Το Σάββατο 9 Μαΐου 2009 Κυβερνητική Επιτροπήεπισκέφθηκε το σχολείο µας και διενέργησετον απαιτούµενο έλεγχο σε όλουςτους προβλεποµένους από την Κυβέρνηση τοµείςλειτουργίας του.Η επιτροπή έµεινε απόλυτα ικανοποιηµένη απότην γενική λειτουργία του σχολείου µας και εξέφρασετα συγχαρητήριά στην∆ιευθύντρια µαςκα Τ. Αλεξάνδρου και το διδακτικό προσωπικό.

Το Πιστοποιητικό της Κυβέρνησηςγια την ανανέωση αδείας λειτουργίας

του Ελληνικού µας σχολείου.

Η πρώτη Κυριακή του Σεπτεµβρίου είναιαφιερωµένη στον Πατέρα γνωστή σε όλουςως «Εορτή του Πατέρα - Father’s Day».

Την Κυριακή το πρωΐ 6η Σεπτεµβρίου 2009κυρίες της Φιλοπτώχου Αδελφότητάς µαςκατά την είσοδο των πατέρωνστην Εκκλησία µας πρόσφεραν έναγαρύφαλλο ευχόµενες χρόνια πολλά.

Στο τέλος της Θείας Λειτουργίαςο π. ∆ιογένης αναφέρθηκε µε λίγα λόγιαστο Ιερό πρόσωπο του πατέρα, ο οποίος έχειπαίξει σηµαντικό ρόλο στη ζωή µας,στην οικογένεια και στην κοινωνία.

Τιµήθηκαν και εφέτος δύο πατέρες έναςηλικιωµένος ο κ.Γεώργιος Τούτσηςκαι ένας νέος ο κ. Σπύρος Λάππας.

Ο π. ∆ιογένης ευχήθηκε σε όλους τουςπατέρες χρόνια πολλά και πρόσφερεεκ µέρους της Φιλοπτώχου στους δύοτιµωµένους πατέρες ένα µικρό δώρο,τονίζοντας ότι στο πρόσωπο τους τιµούµε,σεβόµεθα και αγαπάµε όλους τους πατέρεςγια τους κόπους, τις φροντίδες, τις θυσίεςκαι την προσφορά τους.

The Modern Greek language programme offered at the College is a critical component of curriculum and the culturaland religious identification of the College.The continuous strengthening of the Greek programme is crucial, particularlyin view of the changing student profile, where the cohort of students has evolved from first/second generation tosecond/third generation Greek-speaking, which is in addition to the increased number of non Greek speaking studentsat the College.

Professor Michalis Damanakis, Director of the Centre of Intercultural and Migration Studies (EDIAMME)University of Crete, recently visited our College and met with students and staff as part of his visits to all the continentsof the world.

With Professor Damanakis’ global knowledge of students of the diaspora, through these visits as well as his hosting ofgroups for summer lessons at the University of Crete, his highly positive comments on the attitude, appreciation andperformance of our students was very heartening.

KNOWING OUR SAINTS - DuringSeptember our Church celebrates thefollowing:

1st September - According to tradition, it was onSeptember 1st that Jesus first entered the JewishSynagogue to preach his mission when He said “The spiritof the Lord is upon me; because the Lord has anointed meto preach good tidings unto the meek, He has sent me tobind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to thecaptives and the openings of the prison to them that arebound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord andthe day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all thatmourn.”

It has also been accepted within the church that themonth of September is the time to gather all the fruits ofthe summer months (in the northern hemisphere) andprepare for the winter ahead. Hymnographers preparedbeautiful hymns to be chanted during Church services,offered to Almighty God so that we might receive Hisdivine blessings throughout the coming year.

In 312AD Emperor Constantine saw a miraculous visionof the “sign of the Cross” in the skies, after which theOrthodox Church picked September 1st as the day tobegin its calendar year, which date was also adopted bythe Romans. Emperor Constantine later used the “sign ofthe cross”with “εν τουτο Νικα”which means “in this signconquer” for his soldiers’ armor in battle. We celebrate theelevation of the Cross on September 14.

Much later, the Julian calendar was written, when theChurch year commenced in January and ended inDecember. Many years later the Gregorian calendar(which we use today) replaced the Julian calendar becauseit was thirteen days behind.

5th September – Saint ZachariasZacharias and his wife Elizabeth led a life of pietyreaching the ripe age without children but accepting thisas God’s will. Archangel Gabriel was sent by God to tellZacharias that his wife would bear him a son, whom heshould call John – Zacharias could not believe this waspossible at their age and asked for a sign from God. He

was rendered mute until the exact moment his son, John(the Baptist) was born (a few months before the birth ofJesus!) Both infants had been whisked away from theirbirthplace, so that when Herod ordered the death of themale infants on 29th December, Jesus and John wereelsewhere, safe with their mothers.

8th September – Birth of Virgin MaryJoachim and Anna were devout Christians and had prayedfor twenty years for a child. On 8th September, theVirgin Mary was born.The Apostle James quotes an angelof the Lord as saying to Anna “the Lord hath heard thyprayer, and thou shalt conceive and bring forth, and thyseed shall be spoken of in all the world”. Anna acceptedwith the words “As the Lord my God liveth if I beget maleor female, I will bring it as a gift to the Lord my God; andit shall minister unto him holy things all the days of itslife”.

9th September – Saints Joachim and AnnaThe remembrance of the parents of the Blessed VirginMary, St Joachim and Anna are specifically celebrated onSeptember 9th – they are considered the patron Saintsof pious education because of the deep concern they hadfor the religious education of their daughter. Our churchhas a hymn “As we celebrate the remembrance of thyrighteous grandparents, through them we beseech thee,OLord, to save our souls” within another hymn we say“Anna doth rejoice now that she is loosed from the bondsof barrenness, as she nourisheth the most pure one, callingall to praise Him who hath given the world her who aloneis Mother, yet hath known no man.”

You may have observed that at the end of every liturgyservice the priest says “May the risen Christ, ourtrue–giving Cross, the protection of the spiritualpowers of Heaven… the holy and righteousancestors Joachim and Anna… and all the saintswhose memory we celebrate have mercy on us andsave us.” Their tombs are located in the Garden ofGethsemane in Jerusalem, within the chamber containingthe tombs of the BlessedVirgin Mary and St Joseph.
