    MASS SPECTROMETRY CENTER The Director will have operational responsibility for a new Mass Spectrometry Center to serve the faculty of Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Den-tal Medicine. The Center will be equipped with at least four MS machines: a high resolution Maldi ion-ization instrument, a high resolution electrospray ionization instrument, a medium resolution Malai MS, and a low resolution electrospray MS. Position requires technical expertise and ability to manage the service and business aspects of the Center. REQUIRE-MENTS: Ph.D. level chemist, experience using a vari-ety of MS equipment with particular expertise in bio-logical research. Experience managing an MS facility is preferred. Candidates should have excellent orga-nizational and interpersonal skills.

    POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS The Center for Microgravity and Materials Research at the University of Alabama in Huntsville has two immediate openings in a bio-crytallization program, supported by grants from and NASA. Research will include (1) crystal nucleation mechanisms by a novel optical technique, and application of the obtained insight to biomedical problems, and (2) growth kinetics, in particular non-linear dynamics of layer propagation, by high-resolution interferometry and atomic force microscopy, and consequences for crystals' perfection. Understanding of thermodynam-ics and kinetics in application to phase transitions, and experience in custom-built optical and/or scanning probe methods, and experiment automation, are desired.
