A white solid with a melting point of 116-119°C, DCMA is soluble in ketones and aromatic solvents. The reactions of DCMA are similar to those of maleic anhydride except for the effect of decreased double bond reactivity. The chlorine atoms in this compound are very firmly bound. Several potential applications for this product are suggested below. CURING AGENT FOR EPOXY RESINS —Casting, laminating, surface coatings. Rapid, low temperature cure with very little exotherm. PREPARATION Of RESINOUS FLASTïCZiERS Highly compatible, non-migrating. MODIFYING ACID IN POLYESTERS _ i n c r e a s e d flame retardancy. INTERMEDIATE — For pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, oil-modified alkyd resins, heteropolymers, and agricultural chemicals.
