Notes: It was discovered by W. Herschel in 1783. It lies 95,000 light years from NGC 3169.

Observations:

C8 at 104x. It is a bright oval haze. It takes high power well, but does not give up any visual details. Its axis runs E-W. NGC 3169 is only 5 min E. Model (where the Sun is a baseball):

Its diameter would be 27 million miles.

C8 at 104x. Oriented NE to SW, it has a stellar center and uneven light. A very faint star lies to the E, as well as the galaxy NGC 3166 to the W. Model (where the Sun is a baseball):

Its diameter would be 27 million miles.

C8 at 206x. Stellar at low power, it takes on the look of a badly focused star at 200x.

C8 at 104x. It is a faint but obvious N-S smudgy oval that is easily seen. I think it looks brighter than 13.9m. I'd guess it to be as bright as some 12.5m galaxies.

triangle of 7.6m, 8.3m, and 9.0m stars to the E is rough on the view— use high powers and get them out of the field.
