Summary •  SMOS Successfully launched and in operation •  Many thanks to

–  Science teams –  Projects (ESA and CNES) –  The Industry –  Operations (ESAC and CNES)

•  Provides very good data à earlier and better than expected •  Soil moisture retrievals are looking very good even though still

preliminary and still in Cal Val •  Salinity maps are produced ! Useful for Aquarius? •  But still several hurdles and issues to be solved

–  RFI, –  An issue but not for SMOS / Aquarius only!!

•  Data to be released - so that “blemishes “ are corrected – –  Level 1 to all and L2 to Cal Val users à NOW –  Level 2 to all à September 2010
