The goal of integrated optics is to develop miniaturized optical devices of high functionality

on a common substrate.

Besides charges, photons are used for information transmission and processing. At

present there are many types of devices that are common to electronics and photonics.

Usually such devices are considered as optoelectronic devices.

Optoelectronic devices are most effectively used in optical communication
