Observations from Isaiah Old Testament Survey - Fall 2011

Isaiah 66:6 has been said by Adam Clarke and other commentators to re-

fer to the Anti-Christ, based on the verse designation 66:6… but consider: Verse designations came very late and are not inspired! The earliest copies of Revelation 13:18 (P.Oxy 4499 and the Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus palimpsest) give the number as 616, not 666.

The image below is of P.Oxy LXVI 4499, also called P115. The three char-acters χις in the line indicated by the red arrow appearing beneath the su-pralinear line are the Greek numerals for 616. 666 would be χξϛ.

It is likely that the number was changed to χξϛ (666) in later copies for the symbolic imagery of the nomina sacra (sacred name abbreviation) χϛ (Christos; Greek for Christ/Messiah) cloaking the letter which resembles a serpent (ξ). Since “anti” in Greek means “imposter” (not “against” as in English), this would look like a serpent appearing to be Christ/Messiah. 616 is not as “cool,” but it is more accurate.

Apocalyptic Significance of Israel Old Testament Survey - Fall 2011

This is by no means an exhaustive study - just a representative sample of prophecies fulfilled.

Israel was restored as a nation with no notice, in a day’s time, on 14 May 1948.

For ADONAI will have mercy on Jacob, and will still choose Israel, and settle them in their own land. The strangers will be joined with them, and they will cling to the house of Jacob. (Isaiah 14:1) Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has ever seen such things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in

labor than she gives birth to her children. (Isaiah 66:8-11) “Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “that it shall no more be said, „The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,‟ but, „The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.‟ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.” (Jeremiah 16:14-15)

The rebirth of the Hebrew language is fulfillment of prophecy as well. Eliezer ben Yehuda adapted the ancient language to modern usage, inventing thousands of new words between 1881 and 1890 and com-piling an ancient/modern Hebrew dictionary completed in 1910 (with a second edition/expansion released in 1959).

Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “They shall again use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I bring back their captivity: „The LORD bless you, O home of justice, and mountain of holiness!‟” (Jeremiah 31:23)

MODERN ISRAEL FULFILLS OT PROPHECY

PSEUDO-PALESTINE (HAMAS) WILL BE REMOVED FROM ISRAEL’S PROMISED LAND

No longer will violence (Hamas, ָחָמס) be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction

within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. (Isaiah 60:18)

MESSIAH WILL REJECT THE PRESENT CALENDAR & RESTORE G-D’S CALENDAR

Months will begin on the new moon, as in the Bible, and the Saturday Sabbath of YHWH will be restored and made universal once again (as it was from Genesis 2:1-3 until 325 CE), re-placing the false doctrine of Sunday-keeping.1

“Every month on the New Moon and every week on the Sabbath, everyone living will come to worship in My presence,” says ADONAI. (Isaiah 66:23)

The Leviticus 23 Holy Days will be universally observed by all - Jewish and Gentile alike. In this passage, Sukkot (Tabernacles) is acting as a synechdoche (a part of the feast system rep-resenting the whole).

Everyone remaining from all the Gentiles that came back to attack Jerusalem will go up every year to worship the King, ADONAI Tzeva‟ot, and to keep the festival of Suk-kot.(Zechariah 14:16)

THE NEW HEAVEN & EARTH

The present earth (and heaven) will be destroyed and replaced.

For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered nor come to mind. (Isaiah 65:17)

Notice the explanation of this in 2 Peter 3:9-10...

The L-rd is not slow in keeping His promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, He is patient with you, for it is not His purpose that anyone should be con-demned, but that everyone should turn from his sins. However, the day of the L-rd will come like a thief. On that day, the heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will melt and disintegrate, and the earth and everything in it will be burned up.

TORAH-KEEPING IS STILL THE STANDARD

We will all eat according to Biblical dietary laws (Leviticus 11 & Deuteronomy 14).2

“Those who consecrate and purify themselves in order to enter the gardens, then follow the one who was already there, eating pig meat, reptiles, and mice, will all be destroyed together,” says ADONAI. (Isaiah 66:17)
