The project proposal you are holding in your hands is about the initiative of the organization of the 3-day actions which:

• Will take place in Thessaloniki on 4, 5 and 6 November2016

• Will be incorporated in the series of events to celebrate Thessaloniki’s Trade Association 100th anniversary

• Will be the prelude of the wider Byzantine Thessaloniki event.

Byzantine ThessalonikiThe last two years an intense and fruitful consideration has been developed on the reinforcement of the historical identity of Thessaloniki and the development of its extroversion through the exploitation of the city’s historical route. The configuration of considerations and proposals which are common between the majority of institutions in the city, led the Commercial Association of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki and the Aristotle University to take a broad initiative, entitled “Byzantine Thessaloniki”, that will designate the historical past of the city in the direction of its developmental exploitation.

On the occasion of the celebration of the 100 years anniversary of the establishment of the Commercial Association and as a precursor of the project, a 3-days event is organized in Thessaloniki, the 4–5–6 November 2016.

The Main Idea of the Initiative The designation of the Byzantine figure of Thessaloniki as a matter of culture, tradition, history and memory and its exploitation as an essential sustainable touristic development resource.

» The enhancement of Thessaloniki’s tourism identity

» The creation of a tool in order to leverage the tourist demand for Thessaloniki and for the wider region of Central Macedonia

» The organized inclusion of religious tourism activities in the tourism marketing of Thessaloniki

Objective

Game for children and adults in the Museum of Byzantine Culture of Thessaloniki, based on Byzantine history scenario, edited by Gamecraft and supervised by the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki.

B. AN ARTISTIC EYES IN BYZANTINE THESSALONIKI

Objective

Exhibition of paintings and sculptural works of art on the theme: BYZANTINE THESSALONIKI, at Thessaloniki Concert Hall. The exhibition will be carried out with the supervision and care of the Association of Painters & Artists of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece. The money gained by the sales of the art works will be disposed to several social activities organized by work of the Association.
