PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 625 - 2 Apr 2011 ■ Gilenya [fingolimod], used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), will cost €1850 ($US2620) a month in Germany, according to a spokesman for Novartis, Eric Althoff, and reported by Bloomberg. Available as a pill, Gilenya will be more expensive than its injectable competitors, such as Avonex and Rebif [both interferon-β-1a], and Copaxone [glatiramer acetate]; however, it is cheaper than Tysabri [natalizumab]. Althoff says that "Germany is usually used as an indicator for pricing in other European countries". For comparison, Gilenya costs about $48 000 annually in the US. von Schaper E.
