CHAPTER CHALLENGE” ANNOUNCEMENT Our Philoptochos Society has been selected by our NJ Metropolis and the National Philoptochos to work on the “Chapter Challenge” project, a two-year program focused on helping people in need, that will run through April of 2020. For this "hands-on" community service project, we have set our heart to work with two Organizations that provide services to people dealing with homelessness, “Joseph's House” the Adult Homeless Shelter, in Camden and “Covenant House” the Teenage Shelter with 2 locations, in Camden and Atlantic City. We will work with both non-profits collaboratively, to aid homeless brothers and sisters and most importantly give them the chance they need to make a life for themselves away from the streets. We have reached out to all Organizations at St. Thomas and ALL of them have embraced and supported our endeavor to “Witness God’s love in action for those

ORTHODOX FAITH SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS:

ST. THOMAS SUMMER DAY CAMP Due to construction at St. Thomas and for the safety of our campers, this year's camp will be held for one week at Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 499 Route 70, Cherry Hill from June 24 to June 28 and from 9 am until 3 pm. The program is for kids from K-6th and provides a variety of activities and religious education. Cost for the week is $150. Registration is now open!! Please be advised that due to limited space at Trinity Church, this year's camp will be limited to 40 campers and we will not be able to accommodate last minute registrations. DANIELLE KOUSOULIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Danielle Kousoulis Memorial Scholarship Fund is offering one $2,000 (Two Thousand Dollar) scholarship to a current well-rounded graduating high school senior who will be seeking higher education. Danielle Kousoulis, who was a member of St. Thomas, tragically lost her life on September 11, 2001 as a result of the terrorists’ attack on the World Trade Center. This scholarship fund was established in Danielle’s memory to honor her very giving and generous nature. President’s Report on Construction No. 4 If you look at the right as you face the entrance to our Church, you will see the Bell Tower of Saint

Thomas rising from the ground. Only three weeks ago Father Christoforos blessed the ground where the Bell Tower will sit. Now, the foundation is in place and the walls are rising.

As we are continuing our journey we are reminded of the hymn of our Church that I quoted above: “Lord, solidify Your Church, which you built with your Precious Blood.” It is this power of Christ that is moving our Church community to build the final phase of His Church. The last weeks saw the contractor pouring the cement on the foundation and also saw our Parishioners opening their hearts and pledging with generosity to fund the construction. Our Lord and His Apostle Saint Thomas are thankful to all of you eternally.

The schedule of the construction is moving forward. Most of the Bell Tower will be up by Easter. The dome is being manufactured right now and will arrive in June. We expect it to be assembled in our parking lot and then lifted by crane and placed on top of the Church. In the meanwhile, the exterior stone work, the new ceiling (in the narthex and Church) and several other changes will be taking place.

I want to clarify two rumors that I heard. One has to do with the exterior stone. The stone will come from local quarries and will not be imported from Greece. The second has to do with the bell tower. The bell tower will have bells that will ring. The sound will be at levels that will not disturb our neighbors.

Beginning May 22, the Divine Liturgy AND ALL THE HOLY SACRAMENTS (including Baptisms and Funerals) will take place in the Danielle Kousoulis Cultural Center. I hope that you will be attending Liturgy on Sundays throughout the summer so you can be witnesses to this monumental and historical project.

Ατενίζοντας την είσοδου του Ναού στα δεξιά θα δείτε το καμπαναριό του Αγίου Θωμά να υψώνεται σιγά σιγά από τη γή προς τον ουρανό. Μόλις πριν τρείς εβδομάδες ο πατήρ Χριστοφόρος ευλόγησε το σημείο όπου θα κτίσουμε το καμπαναριό. Τώρα έχουν κτισθεί τα θεμέλια και αρχίσαμε να κτίζουμε τους τοίχους.

Καθώς συνεχίζουμε την πορεία μας προς τη πλήρωση του έργου, πρέπει να θυμόμαστε τον ύμνο από τις καραβασίες της Υπαπαντής: «Στερέωσον Κύριε την Εκκλησίαν, ην εκτήσω τω Τιμίω Σου Αίματι.» Η ίδια δύναμη του Χριστού κινεί την Κοινότητά μας για την αποπεράτωση του Ναού του Αγίου Θωμά. Τις τελευταίες δύο εβδομάδες είδαμε την εργολαβική εταιρεία να κτίζει τα θεμέλια του καμπαναριού και συγχρόνως είδαμε την γενναιοδωρία των ενοριτών μας προς το έργο.

Η οικοδομή προχωρεί. Το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του καμπαναριού θα έχει τελειώσει μέχρι το Πάσχα. Ο τρούλος κατασκευάζεται ήδη στο εργοστάσιο. Θα φθάσει εδώ τον Ιούνιο και θα συναρμολογηθεί επί τόπου. Μετά θα φέρουν ένα γερανό και θα τοποθετήσουν τον τρούλο στο κέντρο της οροφής. Συγχρόνως, οι εργασίες για την εξωτερική πέτρα, το εσωτερικό του Ναού και τον νάρθηκα θα συνεχίζονται.

Θέλω να διευκρινίσω δύο θέματα, για το οποία έχω ακούσει διάφορες διαδόσεις. Πρώτα, οι πέτρες που θα καλύψουν το εξωτερικό του ναού θα έρθουν από τοπικά λατομεία και δεν θα εισαχθούν από Ελλάδα. Δεύτερον, οι καμπάνες θα χτυπάνε κανονικά. Ο ήχος τους θα είναι σε βαθμό που δεν θα ενοχλεί τους γείτονες.

Αρχίζοντας 22 Μαΐου, η Θεία Λειτουργία και ΟΛΑ ΤΑ ΙΕΡΑ ΜΥΣΤΗΡΙΑ θα τελούνται στο Ελληνικό Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο «Δανιέλλα Κουσούλη», το οποίο πλέον θα διατελεί ως ο Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Θωμά για όλο το καλοκαίρι. Ελπίζω να έρχεστε συχνά στις θερινές ακολουθίες και συγχρόνως να βλέπετε την συνέχεια και αποπεράτωση του έργου.
