Friday 22 September, 7.15pm - The Hellenic Centre Constantine the Great, Founder of the Byzantine Empire and Ioannis Kapodistrias, Founder of the Hellenic State A lecture in Greek by author and Visiting Professor to the Hellenic Armed Forces, Ioannis Korniakis. Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September, 11am to 4pm Open House Event @ the Hellenic Centre ‘Open House’ was started in 1992 by a group of architects as a small, not-for-profit organisation to promote public awareness and apprecia-tion of the capital’s building designs and architecture. The Hellenic Centre opens its doors to the public to discover the interesting story behind its elegant building dating back to the 1900s. Exhibitions in the Friends Room and Great Hall will complement the event. Free entry; no booking required.
Tuesday 19 September, 7pm - The Hellenic Centre Wonders of the Cyprus Hill Resorts Cyprus Tourism Organisation officials will present the many wonders of Cyprus: natural attractions as well as man made wonders like the UNESCO protected churches, with unique examples of religious art. The Killing of the Revellers - ODYSSEUS. Red Rapsody X Theatrical Research Group
‘’Meth’odos’’ and Director/Actor Yiorgos Panteleakis present an one-act, 50-minute long
drama based on the slaughter of Penelope’s suitors (rapsody 22) from Homer’s Odyssey.
The play is performed in its original rhythmic form with surtitles in English and Modern Greek.
The acting is complemented by the use of an improvised phorminx (a string instrument) .

literary impact the artist creates a visual art trail to the cities of Venice, Alexan-
dria, Constantinople, Marseille, Athens, Smyrna, Thessaloniki, Naples. Supported

Saturday 16 September and Sunday 17 September, 11 am to 4pm - The Hellenic Centre Σπήλαια του Μυαλού - Mind Caves Old and new works by Triantafyllos Vaitsis
inspired by Plato's allegory of the cave. The artist investigates the unseen exten-
sions of materials queries what is real and what is not. Meet the artist: Friday 15

Friday 27 October, 7.15pm - The Hellenic Centre Austerity Measures Since the crisis hit in 2008, Greece has played host to a cultural renais-sance. In Austerity Measures, the very best of the writing to emerge from that creative fer-ment is gathered for the first time, featuring poems written by native Greeks, émigrés and migrants alike. Karen Van Dyck, the editor and translator of the book, will be joined by Maria Margaronis, London based journalist, and Greek poets Yiannis Efthymiades and Elena Penga for an evening of poetry and discussion. Tuesday 17 October, 7.15 pm - The Hellenic Centre The Louvre Murder Club Christos Markogiannakis, criminologist and art lover, presents his crime novel in a fascinating and interactive way. The author analyses infamous mythological, biblical and historical murders, from ancient Greek am-phorae to 19th-century paintings. This “Criminartistic” analysis combines crimi-

Monday 20 November, 7.15pm - The Hellenic Centre The Geography of Cyprus in the Middle of the 19th Century – Evidence from Lord Kitchener’s Historical Map of Cyprus (edition of 1885) Prof Christos Chalkias, Harokopio University of Athens, will talk in Greek, about the result of a research collaboration with the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation: cartographic database and a web application presenting the vast range of geographical, historical and cultural information included in Lord Kitchener’s
Sunday 19 November, 2pm & 7pm - The Hellenic Centre Cloudy Sunday – Ουζερί Τσιτσάνης Directed by Manousos Manousakis, the film narrates the love story of a Jewish woman and a Christian man in Thessaloniki in 1942 during the German occupation. The story unfolds around an ouzeri, where Vasilis Tsitsanis, one of the
most prominent composers of rebetiko, performs. The film is based on the book Ouzeri Tsit-sanis by George Skabardonis. Film duration: 120 minutes; language: Greek with English sub-titles. Film ticket holders can attend a live music recital dedicated to Vassilis Tsitsanis, by the group Plastic Chairs, which will take place at 4.30pm, in between screenings. Monday 6 November to Wednesday 8 November - The Hellenic Centre Mythical Peloponnese: As Seen by the Gods Manes Pangalos, photographer and visual artist presents a series of aerial photographs capturing the picturesque region of Peloponnese. Sunday 26 November, 10am to 12.30 pm - The Hellenic Centre I’m dreaming of a Greek Christmas - Children’s Workshop A fun, interactive workshop centred around traditional Christmas in Greece. The workshop is largely addressed to Greek families and aims at the children’s exploring and experiencing Christmas Greek traditions through hands-on, festive activities, while building confidence in communicating in Greek. The day will include making and enjoying traditional cookies (kourabiedes), as well as carols and arts and crafts based on Greek seasonal traditions.
