He was also a participant in "Falling Walls Venture 2018,“ a global pitch event for startup ventures, and was the first to scientifically prove the “brain diabetes hypothesis" for Alzheimer's disease. He is expected to develop new medication for the disease going forward. He attended the National Defense Academy, served as a helicopter pilot for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, attended the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, and served as a Miyagi Prefecture Assemblymember before becoming Miyagi Governor in 2005. It is now his fourth term in office. Governor Murai aims to bring about an innovative recovery from the Great East Earthquake Disaster, and seeks to do so by establishing a strong economic foundation for promoting further economic growth. The cycle of wealth will then help push the development of welfare, education, environment, and social overhead capital. Not just attracting companies such as Toyota and Tokyo Electron, Governor Murai has announced to concentrate funds towards regulatory reform, the popularization of renewable energy, and new industry- stimulating projects such as a next-generation synchrotron facility and Philips Japan’s new R&D center.
