studied commercial banking and investmen t s at the Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University. Starting at the age of IS as a runner in the Riggs National Bank of Washington in 1926, Mr. Melle-font rose to assistant cashier and assistant manager of its Park Rd. Branch. In 1943 he left Riggs t o become vice president and cashier of the National Capital Bank of Washington, then a $2 million institution which he helped to reorganize a n d expand to an $11 million concern.
T h e office of treasurer as now constitu t ed is a full t ime position, in cont ras t to previous practice. Mr . Mellefont, who succeeds Rober t T. Baldwin, recently retired from this office, will be located in the ACS building in Washington. H e will handle receipt and disbursement of al l Society funds, much of which was p r e viously handled by the secretary 's office because of the location of the treasurer 's office in New York. The general ledger, journals, and other accounting records previously handled by the treasurer, will be kept by the controller, Will iam Muehl-hause.

Membership Arvards T h e largest number of 50-year member
ship awards in the history of the Society will be presented to 24 members at t h e general meeting of the Society in April.

It is interesting to note tha t eight, members of this g roup , are at present in the Northeastern Section, and at least two others are former members of t he sect-ion. Other sections represented include Cent ral Massachuset ts , Cent ral Pennsylvania, Chieago, Cleveland, District of Columbia, Florida, Maine, New York, New Orleans, Pi t tsburgh, Rhode Island, St. Louis, University of Missouri, and Virginia, with one each, and one member from Quebec.
Also originally included in this group was Kenneth B . Quinan of the Cape Province, South Africa. Notification was stmt, to Mr. Quinan but was delivered just two d a y s after his death.
