Safety precautions

■1 Keep your place of work clean and tidy.Disorder where you are working creates a po-tential risk of accidents.

■2 Make allowance for influence from the sur-roundings. Don’t expose your electric tools/ma-chines to rain. Don’t use electric tools/ma-chines in damp or wet surroundings. Makesure the work area is well lit. Don’t use elec-tric tools/ machines near inflammable liquidsor gases.

■3 Always protect yourself against electricshock. Never touch grounding (earthing) partse.g. pipes, radiators, cookers, ovens, refrig-erators.

■4 Keep children away. Don’t let other per-sons touch the electric tool/machine or sup-ply cord. Keep them away from your workarea.

■5 Keep your electric tool/machine in a safeplace. Electric tools/machines not in use shouldbe kept in a dry locked-up place out of thereach of children.

■6 Don’t overload your electric tools/machines.You will do your work better and safer in thespecified performance/rating range.

■7 Always use the right electric tool/machinefor the job. Don’t use underpowered tools/ma-chines or attachments for heavier duty jobs.Don’t use electric tools/ machines for workand purposes for which they are not intend-ed, e.g. don’t use a hand-held circular saw tocut down trees or cut up branches.

■8 Wear suitable clothing. Don’t wear looseclothing or jewellery – they could be caughtup in moving parts. When working outside, the use of rubber gloves and non-slip shoesis recommended. Wear a helmet or cap if youhave long hair.

■9 Always wear protective goggles. If workcauses dust, wear a mask as well.

■10 Don’t use the supply cord for any otherpurpose. Don’t carry the electric tool/ machineby the supply cord and don’t pull the plug outof the socket/receptacle by pulling the sup-ply cord. Protect the cable from heat, oil andsharp edges.

■11 Secure the workpiece. Use a clamping de-vice or vice to hold the workpiece. It is se-cured more reliably in this way than in yourhand and you can then hold and operate yourelectric tool/machine with both hands.

■12 Don’t bend over too far when working.Avoid an unusual stance. Make sure that youare standing firmly and keep your balance atall times.

■13 Take good care of your electric tools/ma-chines. Keep the drill bits, insert tools etc.sharp and clean so that you can do your workbetter, safer and more reliably. Observe thecleaning and maintenance regulations and

the instructions for changing drill bits, inserttools etc. Check the supply cord regularly andhave it renewed by a recognized specialist ifit is damaged. Check the extension supplycord regularly and, if it is damaged, replaceit. Keep grips and side handles dry and freefrom oil or grease.

■14 Always pull out the plug from the mains ifthe electric tool/machine is not in use, priorto cleaning and maintenance work and whenchanging a drill bit, saw blade or insert toolsof any kind.

■15 Never leave a key in place. Always checkbefore switching on that the key or adjustingtools have been removed.

■16 Avoid any unintentional start-up. Nevercarry a plugged-in electric tool/machine withyour finger on the switch. Always make surethat the switch is off when plugging the elec-tric tool/machine into the main electric sup-ply.

■17 If an extension supply cord is used out-side, only use one which has been approvedfor the purpose and is correspondingly marked.

■18 Be attentive at all times. Keep your eye onyour work. Remain in a sensible frame of mindand don’t use the electric tool/machine if youcannot concentrate completely.

■19 Check your electric tool/machine for dam-age. You must check the safety devices ordamaged parts carefully for perfect function-ing in keeping with the intended purpose be-fore using the electric tool/machine further.Check whether the moving parts functionproperly, whether they aren’t sticking, whether

any parts are broken, whether all other partswork properly and are fitted correctly, andmake sure that all other conditions which caninfluence operation and running of the elec-tric tool/machine are as they should be. Dam-aged guards and protective devices and partsmust be repaired properly by an authorizedservice workshop or replaced provided thatnothing else is stated in the operating in-structions. Damaged switches must also bereplaced in the recognized service workshop.Never use electric tools/machines which can-not be switched on and off by the switch.

■20 Caution ! For your own safety’s sake, on-ly use accessories and attachments which arespecified in the operating instructions or inthe respective catalogue. The use of acces-sories or insert tools or attachments otherthan those specified in the operating instruc-tions can result in personal injury to you.

■21 Only have repairs carried out by recognizedelectrical specialists. This electric tool/ma-chine complies with respective safety regu-lations. Repairs may only be carried out byan electrical specialist otherwise an accidenthazard for the operator can exist.

■22 Connect dust extraction equipment. If de-vices are provided for the connection of dustextraction and collection facilities ensure theseare connected and properly used.

Caution: The following fundamental safetyprecautions must always be observed whenusing electric tools/machines as protectionagainst electric shock, the risk of injury andfire hazards.

Please read and take note of these precau-tions before you use the tool/machine.

Please keep these safety precautions in asafe place.

Safety The list of safety precautionsmust be observed! Do not use this product in any way other than as described in the operating

instructions. Make sure the SBP 12 battery is securely attached to the screwdriver beforebeginningwork.

Donotcontinueoperating thescrewdriveruntil theSBP12battery is fullydischarged.Thismay reduce the life of the battery cells.

High temperatures increase the rate of battery self-discharge. Direct exposure tothe sun or other sources of heat should be avoided.

The chuckbegins to rotatewhen the electronic on/off switch is pressed. Topre-ventbatterydischarge, ensure that the switch is notpressedduring transport and/orstorage. The on/off switchcan be deactivated by setting the reversing switchto the central position.

Use only Hilti original parts and accessories ( SBC12H, SBC12M and SBC12Cchargers, SBP12 battery). This ensures optimum safety as these units have beendesigned to operate as a system of coordinated components.

Highdrilling and screwdriving performance, highbattery capacity and long life canbe achieved only when the screwdriver is serviced correctly and insert tools arekept clean and in good condition.

Initial operation Charge the SBP12 battery before beginning work. For best results, a new batteryshould be left in the charger for approx. 24 hours for the initial charge. This allowsthe battery cells to become balanced.

For optimumperformance, it is recommended that the screwdriver andbattery areat room temperature before work begins. Keep the screwdriver and battery warmwhenworking at low temperatures.

Environmental protection / recyclingTheSBP12battery contains 10nickel-cadmiumcells. Youshare reponsibility for pro-tecting the environment by ensuring that used batteries are returned for recycling.

Important: ExhaustedSBP12nickel-cadmiumbatteries shouldnotbedisposedofwithhouseholdwasteandshouldnot be thrown in-to a fire or intowater.

Return the exhaustedbatteries to your localHilti centre so that they canbe disposed of correctly.

Reversing switchThe reversingswitch isused to reverse thedirection of rotation of the chuck. A lock-ingdevicepreventsoperationof theswitchwhile the motor is running. The controlswitch is deactivated when the re-versing switch is in the central position.

2-speed switchThe speed range can be selected by ad-justing the 2-speed switch.(1st speed: 0–320 r.p.m. or 2nd speed: 0–1150 r.p.m.)This switchshouldbeoperatedonlywhenrotation has stopped.

Torque clutch adjustment ringThe release torque (1Nmto10Nm) is ad-justed by rotating the adjustment ring tothe desired torque setting (positions 1–10). The torqueclutch isdeactivatedwhenthe ring is set to the drill bit symbol. Withthe ringset to thisposition, thescrewdriverprovides amax. torqueof approx. 20Nm(blocking torque).

Motor brakeThe motor brake reduces the time takenfor the chuck to stop rotating. This per-mits, for example, screws to be driven toan even depth for optimum appearance.
