Sculpture is the three - dimensional, visual art which is expressed in various ways and is created by a lot of means and materials. In Cyprus the first samples of sculpture appeared around the 7 Century B.C. Since Cyprus doesn’t have any deposits of marble, the sculptors used the local soft limestone. They also used marble in small quantities from Greece and Asia Minor. After 1960, a rich creation of traditional works of sculpture and monuments made its appearance.

Nowadays, the Cypriot sculpture has become famous due to the fact that Cypriot artists participate in international events and their works of art are presented in the field of modern sculpture.

Activity: Musical Performance by Cretan artist by artist “Loudovikos Ton Anogion”

Wishing to stress the specificity of the origin of Dominikos Theotokopoulos, we

decided that the participation of “Loudovikos Ton Anogion” expounding Erotokri-

tos, will strenghthen the echo-colouring of the Cretan soul, during the

performance. The personal glance of “Loudovikos Ton Anogion” on the work of

Vitzentzos Kornarou consists mostly of original compositions and surely has an

artistic tint - which goes with his personal synthetic style – fully respecting, at the

same time, the Cretan traditional music. It is not randomized, however, the

participation of “Loudovikos Ton Anogion” in the international Co film EL GRECO

directed by Yiannis Smaragdi, which explores the life and work of the Great

Painter Dominikos Theotokopoulos.

The event is under the auspices of the Ambassador of Greece in Cyprus

Mr. Vasislis Papaioannou who will attend and greet the event.

The Art of CeramicThe art of ceramic is a 1200 – year - old traditional art which passes on from generation to generation. It uses, as main materials for construction, clay and water. The materials are mixed and handled up to the point the clay can be easily worked. The clay is placed on the wheel and using the hands the artist slowly and patently gives the form and size he wishes to the object. First the object is dried and then is placed in the oven for the final finish.
